Duquesne Football » NEHARI CRAWFORD and PRO DAY » Yesterday 9:42 pm

I missed pro day this year but Pgh Sports Now reported that Nehari ran a 4.46 fourty and performed well overall in the "measurables " with 10 pro scouts in attendance! His numbers and certainly his 40 time are pro quality and I again am certain that he will be in a camp for some team and I believe as a free agent signing with Steelers.  I hope that he gets drafted of course and it is only a matter of time until Duquesne has an alumni playing in the NFL again!

Men's Basketball » Bad start, too young, & no depth is all a matter of perspective » 3/17/2019 12:18 pm

Duq81 CLK and the always insightful SkepticAl...good points all! I think there may be some consensus here in your comments about needing to get some wins OOC against better teams and it is a question of how. While  I agree with CLK and SkepticAl that PPG might not be the same as Palumbo in terms of home court  I also agree with Duq81 that it has a big time feel to it and certainly if done right  a more big time feel to it if near capacity? As I have said many times before that I am a dinosaur on many things sports but why not something like  a Chuck Cooper Classic with Pitt  WVU and Penn State and an old Steel Bowl format , I realize that it has to work for the visiting teams and that this might be easier said than done but to me  appears to make some sense. I picked them because of local fan base and maybe a decent amount of fans from each team so nobody too worried about home court advantage  and 3 Power 5 and an A10 team ? Also agree with Duq81 and SkepticAl
On Palestra and maybe a series with Villanova ,and I would tell Notre Dame football that they can't use Rooney without a basketball game at PPG Haha. Sort of kidding  on last one but trying to get creative too and I do believe Dave Harper will get it right

Men's Basketball » Bad start, too young, & no depth is all a matter of perspective » 3/16/2019 4:22 pm

Agree with you and I have the same feel! It is hard to be patient after so many years. Also  I know its not MLB but the Pirates of Clint Hurdle s earlier years had some disappointing finishes to seasons after good starts too but you could feel the change and they eventually broke through to make the playoffs!I think this program is knocking on the door and the closer it gets the harder it becomes  but as my friend Stew preaches...more  patience! Go Dukes

Duquesne Football » Will Nehari be drafted? » 3/16/2019 3:31 pm

Thanks Coffee for sharing and I am not sure if I can attend pro day where all the scouts from NFL will be on campus to work Nehari and others out but my guess he is that he is borderline. I say that because though he was invited to NFLPA all star game he was not invited to the Combine so he is most likely a free agent signing but I also know  that the Steelers scouts are quite aware of Nehari

Congrats and can still remember going to movies at Memorial theater as a kid in Mckeesport and also Christmas shopping! If I am not mistaken didnt Dave Roddey play for Mckeesport High School? Thanks CLK and all players and I may just stick with 21 wins for next year!

The stock market crash, the Great Depression and  a limited perspective rant after an understandably disappointing loss that misses the big picture regarding Duquesne Athletics overall! I am not impartial when it comes to Dave Harper or John Henderson but I think it is hard to find specific reasons to criticize Dave when viewed in overall context and I know John has helped kids who wanted to be helped!

Men's Basketball » My thoughts » 3/14/2019 10:56 pm

Duq81 I think you nailed it and I think combo guards are an interesting theory and not considered enough in today's game. I recognize that you don't see it as much  today and maybe for good reason but there is no law against having them instead of only a point guard and a 2. Who was the point guard on those 80s Celtics teams ? Personally  I love Sincere but I am afraid we are not always going to have him and I see Hughes and our bigs the same way you do. Coach D in the end has to develop  the bigs and find a way to get the best out of each player and define for them the role that will best help the team. EW remains the most talented player and I don't think he has reached his full potential  and next year might be the year that you tell him that he is the man and work off of that! Then again... I want some football team to go back to 2 running backs and am a dinosaur! Haha thanks for your posts as always!

Duquesne Football » Duquesne Football Historic Trivia for St. Patrick's Day » 3/14/2019 10:13 pm

Thanks for the interesting history Coffee and I would say..as usual! Your knowledge of Duquesne sports history is always impressive and insightful! Please continue to provide this information as it is greatly appreciated! I will try to follow up with some information on Spring practice and pro day too!

Good points Stew and agree! I admit that I was rooting for the best overall Duquesne sports season since 1977 which it still might be considered given 19 men hoops wins,NEC Championship and first NCAA playoff win ever in football and a respectable Women's basketball season. We saw improvement for the second year in a row under Coach D and we now have leadership in Dave Harper and Kenny Gormley who recognize the importance of successful athletic programs! Thanks for your posts Stew as always

Men's Basketball » Get On The Record 2018 - 2019 » 3/11/2019 8:24 pm

Haha I had 21 so I am out but I wanted to acknowledge Phoenix for  politely pointing out that people were likely misreading that there were 2 separate questions and the answer to the second question depends on your answer to the first and  you should account for points in a game eliminating the Dukes unless of course you believe that they can run the table like 1977! Honest and classy Phoenix and Go Dukes!

Men's Basketball » Seeding Scenarios » 3/08/2019 12:50 am

20 just sounds better and even looks better on paper! Agree with you Yak Rbc on chalk and although St Louis and Bonnies games showed that we need to rebound better, for the first time in forever it is not crazy to think that we can win the tournament!

Men's Basketball » Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (A) » 3/08/2019 12:28 am

Thanks for the response Phil95, agree with you and I know for sure he is not going to score much, but I think basically he can maintain the status quo in some areas and no big drop off  I personally would rank EW  and Hughes as the only clearly better rebounders but also recognize that the future is with the younger bigs. His future is to probably nove to a slot type TE in football. Thanks again

I'll be there wearing red.  It's our house.  Any Dayton fans wearing red will simply reinforce the home crowd.  We just need to be loud and make more noise than they do.

Also, 2 free tickets are available to Duquesne alumni for the game courtesy of the alumni office.  Visit the link below to get your free tickets and help keep them out of the hands of Dayton fans.  Even though I have season tickets I've claimed mine and will be giving them away to friends who will be cheering on the Dukes.

Haha. Love it VBC and you're right about red. The more wearing red the better and it is the noise level that we need to dominate! Lets Go Duquesne! Thanks for link too!

Men's Basketball » Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (A) » 3/07/2019 11:34 pm

As I have stated many times I am not impartial when it comes to KT!I truly believe that despite being only 6 5  and understanding Phil95 point I also believe that he plays bigger and last year was basically the 2nd best rebounder on the team.  And while I get him wanting to focus on football first and Coach Dambrot wanting to develop the younger players over KT, I think he is the option now and will do fine rebounding and defensively. I know that Spring practice begins Monday night but I think Coach Schmitt has been understanding all along with him playing hoops and will continue to be understanding in this case.

Men's Basketball » Dukes need to get in the weight room » 3/07/2019 9:30 pm

John Henderson is the strength coach and a good one in my view! I  have seen what he has done with NaQuan and how much he improved via weight training Alex Conley too and even to a lesser extent Nehari and KT on the football team.  He works with the basketball players too and is on the bench every game but in the end for this to happen the players have to commit and Coach Dambrot has to kick some off season butts in this area! I agree with Stew and I know that its not football but we did get pushed around some!I also agree with Stew that this is   something that this particular group of
players should work on to get better

Duquesne Football » SPRING PRACTICE And DUQUESNE PRO DAY » 3/05/2019 11:53 pm

Spring practice begins Monday night March 11th at 8pm under the lights at Rooney! I always enjoy the first night of spring practice and it will conclude with the Spring game and NEC championship rings banquet.  I also have been told that Duquesne Pro Day is March 20th beginning 6AM inside at Palumbo and field work to begin around 8am  It's really cool to see 20 to 30 NFL scouts at Duquesne to work out the Seniors invited in Combine like fashion with some of the other local prospects.  Typically Duquesne is scheduled for the same day as Pitt to maximize  NFL scouts participation! Hope to see some of you at practice or pro day! Jack

Duquesne Football » Dukes Nemesis Runs Fastest 40 at Combine » 3/03/2019 3:02 pm

Andy Isabella,  wideout from UMass topped all players at the Combine in 40 time at 4 31. Recall how he torched the Dukes and I for one was wondering who is this  little guy ( allegedly 5 ft 9 188 lbs) as he caught 5 balls for 130 plus yards and 2 TDs. I recall talking about him with AD Dave Harper on the Dukes sidelines and Dave saying watch Bill  Belichick steal this undersized guy,  but with a 4.31 40  time I am pretty sure  that he  now is no longer a secret!

Women's basketball » THE SENIORS » 3/02/2019 7:02 pm

Nice post SkepticAl and hopefully they aren't quite done yet and give us a few more thrills in the tournament!

Men's Basketball » Game Thread - University of Massachusetts Minutemen » 3/02/2019 6:32 pm

Agree with above too but would add Hughes down the stretch! A win is a win and best home season in awhile! Let's Go Dukes!

Men's Basketball » Youth or Rust » 2/12/2019 3:16 pm

With all due respect CLK rooting for Elduque orIronDukes12 now! Haha. Honestly thought I was the optimist at 21 originally

Duquesne Football » POST GAZETTE FABULOUS 22. DUKES GET 2 » 2/08/2019 8:33 pm

Good points  about  WPIAL and program Face and as you know our roster has kids from Hawaii Florida Texas etc too. It is significant that we are getting WPIAL kids that we didn't have a shot at previously and pretty sure  that these 2 were recruited by some of the MAC schools from FBS

Men's Basketball » Fight Song » 2/08/2019 7:41 pm

I definitely think it is underrated as far as fight songs go! Dont know where it came from but the NCAA played a great version at FCS  playoffs at Johnny Unitas stadium as Dukes came out of the locker room to begin the game Truly had players and fans clapping and pumped up!

Duquesne Football » POST GAZETTE FABULOUS 22. DUKES GET 2 » 2/07/2019 3:54 pm

Yesterday's report on the Post Gazette Fabulous 22 showed Jerry and his staff landing 2 and as many as any other D1 program FBS or FCS! As with all recruiting and drafts etc lets wait and see but I do like what I see again this year on paper!

Men's Basketball » Any ideas of our attendance tomorrow » 1/27/2019 3:31 pm

Btw Yak pretty good forecasting on the attendance! Who do you like in the Super Bowl! Haha Seriously , every game is a little better and yesterday's tough loss without Sincere should not deter the upward trend IMHO!
