https://watchstadium.com/news/big-ten-basketball-coaches-rank-the-best-jobs-in-the-conference-10-11-2018/PSU is ranked the worst job in the Big Ten for men's basketball.

I guess a lot of conferences did this.

Has anyone else noticed that the start times, especially for home games, seem to have changed a little from past years?  I have no problem with it and hope that some study was done to indicate that these differing times are more accessible for students and the general public.  I see some at 8:00, 7:30, and Saturday's at both noon and 2:00.

Not a disagreement here...the issue in marketing and advertisement is to do it for the teams that are average or below average.  We have been mostly below average ( we both won't go over the last 20 years on DU bball.)  So, their fan base has been terrible, though at times this took place even when their teams were "average" especially in football.  So my wonderment is (again, nothing personal) why hire someone whose teams attendance, especially in football, has been terrible even when they were average or went to a bowl game.  Just sayin...again, I wish her good luck!

She was an assistant director of marketing there.  Now, I will definitely get blasted for what I am about to say, but I have big shoulders!  First, I do not know her.  Second this is not personal.  I Hope they hired her because in her interviews she said how her hands were tied because there were so many ideas she had and so many things she wanted to do but no one would permit her.  Here is why I said this....
1.  I hope it is the truth
2.  Their football attendance and marketing is and has been abysmal over the last 8-10 years.  They can’t get anyone to the stadium, they almost give tickets away, and even their alumni don’t want to go.
3.   Yes, their basketball program has been poor the last few years, but that is when you need effective marketing.  Their attendance has been poor there also.

We already have poor attendance and marketing.  I remember many mornings when we don’t even get our evening men’s basketball games announced, whether it is 93.7 or little old KDKA!  Okay, venting...but I sure hope they hired her for potential and not based on what PItt has done.  Again, I wish her all the luck in the world!

No such animal...for a while.  And if they do “start” it won’t mean much for a month or more.   I don’t think there are 5 players that are that far ahead of others that they will always start.  This will be fluid at least until January.

We are better, but the schedule is more difficult.  Also, it will take a little time for these guys to learn each other's styles.  I will go with 18 wins.

Wow!  Cheap no More.  With this additional position, the President and AD are definitely all in with athletics.  No doubt that years ago one of the excuses that folks gave on why DU was poor in men's Bball was because of the lack of all around marketing, player development, excellent coaches, and we both can go on.  First Coach D and now this.  I don't want to hear they are cheap any more.
Unlike the Pirates, questions still come up about the Steelers but I don't think they are cheap, and though I am glad they are and can't stand them, pitt football.

Well duq81, this is where we disagree.  I have no problem with them winning the NIT.  Though I dislike the coaching of the assistant coach who came from Duquesne I have always liked both their football and basketball teams.  However, I think it came from the fact that Pitt hates them so much and is so jealous of them that every time they win anything, (including the NCAA wrestling title) the folks at Pitt throw up and freak out on their boards.  But, I probably dislike Pitt more than anyone on this board.

Good Luck!  You were a great kid and did a nice job for us.  I loved watching you block shots...it has been  years since we saw that.  Go Dukes!

Definitely a good hire for them, but some of his excellent recruiting was because they would be going to Duke.  Nevertheless, they probably got a very good coach.

Well, more coaches are bowing out.  Kind of reminds me of the first DU opening when we got stuck with the guy from LIU.  At this point, a really seasoned coach is Not going to go to the ARMpit.  Too bad so sad.

Well, Duquesne got an “older guy”.  I don’t think it would be a bad hire at all plus it gets him out of those extremely cold winters.  I am guessing he might have family here.  Just my 2 cents.

So then, my original question which hasn't really been commented on much.  "Is this job worse or more difficult (Pitt) than the scenario when Duquesne was trying to get someone to come here?"

If he is the guy his base salary is less than 1 million. They won’t have to pay him 3 million to leave. I’m wondering if this job will be over his head!!

So while for Duquesne Men, it is a little bit of down time, I thought I would pose a question.  First, let me put on my protective vest.  Those of you familiar with my posts, know that I absolutely can not stand Pitt both basketball and football.  However, since this is a basketball board, and we have discussed other basketball issues, I wanted to make a statement and then ask a question.  Those who post regularly, know that we ended up with Ferry years ago because we couldn't get a good coach who wanted to come to Duquesne.  There were many reasons and we don't have the time.  Our new AD though successful, had to work hard (nothing wrong with that) to get Coach D. whom we are so fortunate to have.  With that said, here is the question.  "Is getting a basketball coach at Pitt right now more difficult, worse, or the same as when Duquesne was trying to get a good coach to come here?"

I believe that it is easier because they are allegedly paying 3 million dollars.  Your thoughts???

Would love it if their football team implodes also...their head coach is sort of an emotional wreck and their women's basketball coach...we know that story. Oh Well! Do I sound happy???

I found it... in the corner but it is facing the wrong way and can’t be seen by camera. If you see the Boise location they have it facing toward the camera.  I texted Dave Harper but don’t know if Saba can change it or not. He should have known that.

On a side note... if ‘‘this was supposed to be a down year for the A-10, someone needed to tell the 3 teams that got in and who have represented the league well!... though the Bonnies are struggling right now”

Where is DU LOGO? I Thought part of the reason for hosting was to get DU national exposure. The coach from Villanova thinks Pitt is hosting it and I remember seeing the dukes logo on the floor the last time the tournament was in Pittsburgh but can’t see it today. What happened?

In the article above:
"Duquesne fans will want to closely monitor any offseason reports regarding Williams Jr. and Verhoeven. The former established himself as one of the two or three best rookies in the league. The latter battled inconsistency yet showed glimpses of becoming an elite rim protector—he led the A-10 in blocks as a freshman."

I hope that the statement he wrote is a positive one and that he doesn't know something we don't!!!!

Two things...
1.  They are doing the best they can.

2.  In anticipation for next year, I  hope no one jumps off any bridges.  Coach will have 10 new kids next year - a number of them young - so don't expect a huge change next year.  I do expect more wins, but it isn't going to be a mind blowing experience!!!!!!

Not much more to say... I think what was difficult is the goal is to improve as the season progresses. Because the first half of the season was better than expected the second half was more difficult as we didn’t improve. I know there are many reasons for this but as someone said... the facts are the facts. Overall, we were competing all year and I loved that !!!
