KenPom’s rating of officials may be looked at dubiously but it does show what games these guys are working and how many. It would be tough to argue the fact that on a continuous bases this year the Dukes have had some of the worst rated crews. I believe this absolutely stems from where they were slotted. I also believe the A-10 is getting the short end of the stick in their alliance with several other conferences in the sharing of officials.

Joff Pon who is rated 171 out of 200 officials had last nights game and it is the 5th time he has had the Dukes this year. I can tell you that this is going to be a subject at future league meetings.

I hope you are right about the future league meetings addressing the officiating issues. It's too bad that Bernie left early in the second half of the Dukes game that she attended a few weeks ago because she would have seen first hand what some of us have been saying about the refs. Granted, the Dukes have some major issues on offense, and their recent losing streak can't be blamed solely on some questionable calls, or lack thereof, but it sure would be nice to have consistency in officiating at all A10 games.

Unfortunately, ever since the St. Joe's debacle, and maybe a few games before that, the team just doesn't seem to have the "spark" they showed earlier in Conference play. Sloppy ball handling, poor shooting and over dribbling seem to have overtaken the game for the Dukes. I hate to point out individual performances, but if JV and PC play like they did last night, there's no way the Dukes will advance far in the Tournament. Hopefully, Dan is able to get the team's play back to where it was earlier.

So, DU by 2.

The eternal optimist! Hope it comes true.
We'll be at Palumbo watching the ladies take care of Fordham, so won't know about the men until late. Big games for both Programs.

To me, the T on Dambrot at a critical time in the 2nd half was the turning point for this game. The Dukes were "competitive" up to that point, especially after taking the lead for one possession after the Half, but seemed to have the drive taken out of them at that crucial point. I love the enthusiasm & "antics" of Coach Dambrot during the game, and I don't know what he may have said or done after the No-call on the play that precipitated the T, but the A10 officials don't ever seem to give the Dukes a break. After all, we are Duquesne and are supposed to finish last in the A10.

Excuse me, but to those who took my original post to be a condemnation of Coach Dambrot - IT WAS NOT! Rather, I was attempting to voice an opinion that the A10 officiating this season has not been consistent when it came to Duquesne, perhaps because of the recent history of the Program. We are more than happy and satisfied with the results so far & will be in DC to support the Program & Coach Dambrot, regardless of the result. That's not blindness, that's true fan support.

I am in no way a "troll". As Dsnyder mentioned (no idea who he is or how he knows anything about my background), there are some Akron fans (including myself) that grew tired of Dambrot's lack of next-level achievements and his excuses, after getting us to a very competitive mid-major level. I don't necessarily have an "ax to grind" with KD, but I certainly didn't appreciate how he left, blaming the MAC, the JAR, and even the fan base for his ceiling, all the while being the highest paid coach in the MAC at a school that has financial issues that are public knowledge. Regardless, that emotion isn't present in my post.

I decided to post after seeing some posts that expressed some frustration with some X's & O's. I and other Zips fans spent 13 seasons watching KD coach. Some of the frustrations that were in the posts dealt with issues some Zips fans had for 13 years; again, the frustrations grew towards the end of the 13-year tenure when the program seem to become stagnant. I thought it would be helpful if y'all had some background regarding KD's coaching style and strategies from a fan's perspective.

I think he was a good hire, especially given his connection's to Duquesne with his dad. As my original post mentioned, I am appreciative of the level to which he took the Zips program. Some Zips fans still have great admiration for him (those of us who aren't his biggest fans anymore tell those people to travel to Pittsburgh to become Duquesne fans; you're welcome for the extra revenue ). He will most likely take your program to an exciting level you probably haven't experienced in some time (much like Akron). I'm interested to see if he can break through his proverbial glass ceiling.

This guy sounds very much like what Pitt fans sounded like in getting rid of Jamie Dixon. Now those same fans are enjoying the "success" of Stallings. Thank you sir for your insight on the shortc

Duquesne - "the center of the Pgh basketball universe."  I love it!
I'm glad Ray Goss is still associated with the program to see this day.

It's been a long time coming. My wife & I are thoroughly enjoying the resurgence of the Men and continued excellence of the Women. Hope it continues for both teams. Regardless, we'll be there rooting them on and supporting the Programs.

Many of the fans who left their seats in my section, A2, when the Dukes were down by 6  late in the OT, remained at Palumbo in the aisles. Some returned when the Dukes forced another OT. Others stayed in the aisles. I'm sure the TV shots, & maybe the announcers, didn't reflect this. But I don't blame those who may have left Palumbo at that point. After the last x number of years, who should criticize them? I'm sure every one of them who left are sorry now. But, at least, they were at the game. Many others weren't. So no disparaging comments should be directed to those who were there but left prematurely.

I know I said I wouldn't comment on the PG coverage of Dukes BB again, but I am basking in the joy of today's incredible win over LaSalle & reviewing this Board & can't resist commenting. This morning, I picked up the PG sports page to see what they had to say about today's game. Well, as expected, a multi-page article on Pitt's sad season and a lengthy article on RMU's game against some other NEC cellar dweller, but no story about today's LaSalle game at the Palumbo, unless the paltry "game day" swatch in an obscure section of the rag could be classified as reporting. It's unbelievable that any non-fanatical Dukes fans attend these games, or that they even know that a game is scheduled that day. Frankly, PG coverage of the Dukes stinks and I can't believe what the subscription charge is compared to what the Trib used to charge. Oh well, I hate myself for berating the PG again. But let's see what they have to say about both the Men's & Women's wins today. I'm not holding my breath,

Yep. Pipe dream. Would take a top 4 finish in the conference, probably, because the defensive intensity would make it tough to play a couple days in a row. But let's see how it plays out.

Yoi. I'm guessing people didn't quite read this. It's pretty straightforward. There's no prediction. There's no high hopes. It's the only path I think we have to the NCAA Tournament. I call it a pipe dream, I outline the difficulty, and I end with "let's see how it plays out."

Over the past few years, two of our friends & their family members, none of whom are DU Alums, have accepted invitations to games when I had extra tix. Unfortunately, one, a Pitt grad who became really supportive of Dukes BB, passed away just before Thanksgiving. The other friend who attended many games with us seemed to have lost interest mid-last season & had many reasons why he & his family couldn't make the games, But that was until the win over Dayton. All of a sudden I got an email from him expressing excitement over the team's success & looking forward to seeing the Dukes again. Hopefully, as you suggest, this is the start of many past fans coming back to support the team.

I don't have a problem with the premium section seats being sold to non-Season Ticket holders, if the cost for those seats reflects the additional charge that the Dukes Season Ticket holders must pay to sit in those sections. I have 4 such seats & don't object to paying the extra $100 per each year. What I do resent & object to is the fact that there is no checking of seat tickets to ensure that people sitting in these sections actually have purchased those seats. On point - At Saturday's game, a man wearing a Dayton shirt asked if the seats in front of me were occupied. I told him no, but Section A2 is premium seating & unless he had a ticket for those seats they were reserved for Season Ticket holders. He then took seats in Section A3 which he had to vacate when the Season Ticket holder showed up. I really don't want to turn anyone away from attending the games since attendance is so low, especially if it's a Dukes fan. But pay the price if you want premium seating.

Give the UMass defense credit for the close game since the Dukes shooting was unbelievably bad until the end. Does anyone know why Juliajana didn't start and was ineffective until late in the game? It's a good thing Chassidy made some ridiculous shots during the first half, otherwise, we Dukes fans wouldn't be celebrating a double win weekend. Great job ladies! But it was tense.  And congrats Dan on your 100th win!!!

The one thing that concerns me about this game is the turnout of Dukes fans. Dayton travels extremely well and with NO students in the stands because of Christmas break (I'll be kind here since even if school were in session, I wonder what the student section would look like), and with Pitt playing Miami at the same time at the Pete, and with the puzzling lack of DU alumni and staff support at the games, I would hate to see more Dayton fans in attendance than Dukes fans. To be sure, we will be there as will all of the few regulars that sit with us in A2 & A3. But what will the Palumbo stands look like on Saturday. I sincerely hope that all of you locals who access this board plan on  being at the game. This team deserves your support based on the effort that they have displayed to date, regardless of what you may think of the opposition they faced on the OOC schedule. If you decide not to come out & show your support, don't post negative comments if things don't turn out well.

It's fair enough to comment on players not getting back on defense fast enough, or taking too many threes (PS, that's your opinion), but you clearly don't know what you're talking about when it comes to the comments on the coaching.

Had to leave after Men's game because of "Grandson's" concert w/Rivers City Brass Junior Band (not because of Steelers) missing 1st Women's game this year. Checked it on Gametracker play-by-play after concert. What a comeback. Dan must have really lit a fire under their "whatevers" to get such a turnaround. Enjoying a double Dukes victory right now with Steelers leading at halftime. Hope it becomes 3 out of 3. Go Dukes!

While I am happy the schedule was set up the way it was, I am so anxious to see us play some decent competition! I think the schedule has done a great job of allowing the team to learn on the fly while still getting some wins, I think most would agree that the team has improved a lot since the beginning of the season to the point where it looks like we could surprise some this year, especially with the conference being down.

All that being said, we won't really know until we stop playing teams ranked in the 300s, so I just can't wait to see them play a "real" D1 team.

Also can't wait to see if our so far strong kenpom numbers are more a reflection of our team or the competition we are currently facing.

I agree with you about being anxious to see some higher quality teams than we have so far, And that includes the three that we ended up on the short end of the score. But I really wouldn't exclude the 300 ranked teams as not being true D1. I check several different rankings to see how the Dukes come out using the various rating systems (Pomeroy, Sagarin, realtime RPI, Massey & CBS Sports.com). Most of these sites have the Dukes ranked in the mid 200s. But, believe it or not, CBS Sports.com has the Dukes at 312. MVS is at 319. Do I believe the Dukes should be ranked this low? No way! But according to CBS Sports, that's where we are according to their system. But again, I can't wait to see some tougher competition so that the real Dukes are recognized by all of the rating systems

Was DISAPPOINTING to see SO MANY of the people leave after the first game -  I can understand not being interested enough to come and see the ladies on their own - but being ALREADY in the building??  Know some people might have holiday get togethers etc.  Despite their uneven play today -- 9-2 IS A HECK OF A LOT BETTER THAN 8-3 - and they won't have to brood for 8 days over the loss.

Last Wednesday, when the Men's game followed the Women's game, the same "fan" effect happened. Few women's fans stayed for the men's game, & most of those that stayed, left before halftime. We have season tix in support of both teams & enjoy the double header scheduling. Surprisingly, several of our friends who come to the Men's games didn't realize the women played in a double header today. Some of those fans stayed. Unfortunately, the women didn't put on a good show the first half & lost several of those fans at halftime. Both teams deserve our support & it's too bad so few bother to attend the games. Hopefully, the women's success will begin to see increased attendance numbers. One disturbing observation with the double header format is that the cheerleaders & dance teams don't attend both games. Why don't the cheerleaders attend the Men's games in these double headers? The enthusiastic pep band stays for both games & the same should be true for both the dance & cheer squads.

Kudos to Conner today she came up really big crashing the boards and driving to the hoop in the late stages of the game when the team really needed it.

Judge J, I agree to a point with you. But, I sat dumbfounded by several more of the decisions in the CCS game, made by the bench, than the "going for 2" one that you cite. It seems that the "spirit" of the team was lost after that loss, resulting in the loss of the last game of the year. Too bad, since this year's Dukes team was full of talent & promise.

I wasn't surprised at all that there weren't more students at the game. Any time there's a Dukes game the same night as a Penguins game, few students show up at Palumbo. But when I'm walking up to Gate B there's a ton of students wearing Pens jerseys heading to PPG. It's been that way for years & I don't know how it can be changed. What's more troubling is the comment about a female student buying a ticket to the Pitt game wearing a Pitt shirt. I was on campus the day that Pitt played Oklahoma State at Heinz Field & I couldn't believe the number of DU female students wearing Pitt gear & heading to that game. Going to these games (Pens & Pitt at Heinz) are events that the students seem to gravitate towards, just like the Dukes/Pitt game on Friday. Sad to say, but going to Palumbo just isn't and I don't think it has anything to do with the Athletic Department staff.

You can bet Suzie thinks it's important too, why else would she try to denigrate the Dukes & the A10 the way she did. BCS, Big Cash Schools, for the most part have big state funding making it just that much tougher for non-Big Cash Schools to compete. I relished every second of last night's game, watching her frantically trolling the sidelines knowing that she was overmatched. Way to go Dan Burt. You deserve to be proud of your team today!
