Duquesne 51 Delaware 47

Delaware was ranked anywhere from 11th in the AP to 17th in ESPN.   Big win for the resume.   Orsi hit a huge three pointer in the last minute to put the Dukes up 4.

Kurt, you're not easily impressed, so this must indeed be a big win for the ladies.

Re: Duquesne 51 Delaware 47

Congrats to the Dukes to get a quality win over the currently ranked 17th team.  Although the win over Delaware will enhance the Dukes' RPI, let's not forget that this is a very different team without its All-American, 6' 5" Elena Delle Donne.  The Dukes may get another chance to play the Fighting Blue Hens in the tournament in New Hampshire on December 30th.  Now a win over a Delaware team with a healthy Delle Donne would be really special.

I note that the Dukes shot very poorly in this game (31.7% for FGs and 18.8% for 3-pointers), missing many bunnies under the hoop with little or no defensive pressure.  The Dukes defense caused the First State's University to cough up 21 turnovers and clearly was the the Dukes' strong suit last evening.  The win should have been by  a comfortable double-figure margin without the need for Orsi's heroic big-time 3 pointer and her subsequent being a recipient of a charging foul by Delaware's Lauren Carra as the clock ticked down to the final buzzer.

A win is a win, and it's better than a well played loss when it comes to tournament selection time.

Lo and behold!  Here are real articles, not just two sentences, about the Duquesne women's basketball team in both of the local newspapers: http://triblive.com/sports/2957581-85/duquesne-delaware-mcconnell-serio-points-game-guard-led-szecsi-agunbiade#axzz2CG0kCOT1

Sagarin Women's B-ball ratings as of Nov. 14 prior to the Duquesne-Delaware game: http://www.rpiratings.com/womrate.php

                                    RATING    W   L  SCHEDL(RANK) VS top 25 | VS top 50 | ELO_SCORE    | PREDICTOR

44  Delaware                =  82.44    1   1   68.17( 164)    0   1  |    0   1  |   80.18   60 |   84.76   33
45  Duquesne               =  82.39    1   1   75.83(  80)    0   0   |    0   1  |   82.13   46 |   82.52   45
47  North Carolina        =  82.35    2   0   74.73(  92)    0   0   |    1   0  |   82.35   43 |   82.22   46

I threw in North Carolina's rating to show that the Dukes had a higher rating than the Tar Heels even though the Dukes lost in ACC country through the help of some outrageously poor officiating.

Sagarin Women's B-ball ratings as of Nov. 15 after the Dukes beat Delaware: http://www.rpiratings.com/womrate.php

39  Duquesne               =  83.60    2   1   78.56(  55)    0   0   |   1   1   |   83.34   40 |   83.85   39
44  Delaware                =  82.68    1   2   76.08(  76)    0   0   |    0   2  |   82.59   44 |   82.76   45

It's early in the season, but the Dukes are movin' on up!

No, I say nice things when they are warranted.    I get called out alot for trying to hold people to higher standards.   But thank you for noticing that I said something nice.

Last week, I said on the other board that I thought Amodio did a great job getting us on Root Sports finally.   That comment didn't any notice.   But usually when I say something that I believe and is negative, I get called out for it.   I get the troll comment alot.

I listened to the game last night.   The Dukes' play by play announcer called Orsi out in the second half saying that she could not disappear from big games like she did in the first half of last night's game.  That she now has to be a team leader and has to find a way to lead.  I have said similar things repeatedly and whenever I have I gotten called out for it.  Called a troll for making honest comments, although sometimes negative.

But I am not going to congratulate SMS's team for moral victories against unranked teams, no matter what the school's name is.   And I don't think SMS would either.
