Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (home)

I think the Dukes are going to have to win ugly tonight. I can’t see the Dukes scoring more than 65 points, so the defense needs to step up while offense remains patient.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (home)

Definitely one that we could use in the win column. Only one game but can make a big difference in the season. UMass is also one that we should have a chance in but one game at a time. Would love to see TV get a few baskets in one or both of these last A-10 contests!

OT and FWIW, Akron is 12-17 this year, 5-12 in the conference.  What a difference a year makes and a coach makes.

Yeah, but don't forget KD brought some of his talent to DU with him. Big impact on Akron's record, and we expect a big impact on our record when they gain eligibility.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (home)

finishing with 2 wins would be awesome.  Then spoil someone's tourney chances in DC, while securing a CBI bid.   Yeah!!!!

Big fan of Coach Dambrot but there is no connection between Dambrot's Akron team and the this one.
Saw Akron play 2 weeks ago.
Transfers really hurt them and Dambrot was responsible for 2 of those transfers.
They are a shell of last year.
Dukes REALLY need a win tonight.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (home)

Depth or fatigue really shouldn't be an issue for the Dukes in this one. They're playing a team that has had no more than 9 players suiting up all year. One, Jordan Goodwin, their second-leading scorer, co-leader in rebounds, and leader in assists and steals, was suspended for the rest of the season earlier this month. Another, Markos Psimitis, is a walk-on who rarely plays. And a third, Rashed Anthony, plays sparingly and contributes little to the scoresheet. Grad transfer from Seton Hall, he didn't play much there in three years either. So barely a 7-man rotation for the Billikens. Goodwin you may recall dropped a triple-double on the Dukes last month (13 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists), along with two blocks and four steals. Big athletic guard that the Dukes had no answer for at either end of the floor last time around. Here's hoping this is a completely different game for both teams without him.

For those of you with FiOS, this one's on Spectrum (channel 820) and Saturday night's game against UMass is on the Eleven Sports Network (channel 597).

What I was inferring was simply losing a good coach in Dambrot at Akron hurt them this year.  Whether Groce can get Akron back to the previous 13 year run of success remains to be seen.
And agreed - the Dukes REALLY need a win tonight.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (home)

St.Louis is 2-1 since losing Goodwin with a win at Richmond. Look's like another slobberknocker tonight. St. Louis might have been giving R. I. a run for the title if they hadn't lost their players.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (home)

Should be a tough game, but we should pull this out at home with all the guys they have out. Goodwin was one of their best players this year.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (home)

DU is just so challenged offensively.  Very hard to win if Lewis and Smith are both off.  This is a big game...hopefully they get going in the second half.

Remarkable game for Tydus. Safe to say without his performance this game would be in the "L" column.already.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (home)

THAT...was enjoyable.  You have to love it that 2 freshman lead the way.  TV had a monster game.  Win Saturday and finish the season strong.

The 2 freshman tonight:  14/19 shooting, 9/12 FT, 15 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 blocks.  Impressive

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (home)

Fantastic breakout for TV and another great performance by EW. StL really shot their 3's well, and again it appeared that the officials played against the home team. Tarin and Rene had bad games, but the super performance by the freshmen led to a big W.

What a difference it makes when you get production up front.

Right before the start of the game Ford gave each official a hug and a smile.

Missed the game tonight but it looks like tydus had a great game! Happy for him. He's struggled with confidence on offense this year.

Coach comment to Ray Goss, Both are great athletes but Tydus thinks he is ok and Williams thinks he is great!

TV said he had a long talk with his mother Saturday after her visit and came out more aggressive, glad he did he carried the Dukes down the stretch to victory

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (home)

Tydus serving notice that he can be more than just a defensive specialist. Nice to see the Dukes gut out and win a tough game. I guess you could say they were sloppy, but part of it was St. Louis spreading them out and forcing them to make long passes the whole night. Anyone else notice that the scrolling sports "news" headlines at the bottom of the screen were all from like 2-3 weeks ago? Between that and the constant Life Alert ads with the old lady falling in the shower. I guess Spectrum is better than nothing but would be nice if the A10 could find a better TV partner.

Re: Game Thread - Saint Louis Billikens (home)

Fun night tonight at Palumbo.

-SLU dared Tydus to beat them all night, and boy did he beat them. Makes you dream a little what could be if he plays with that assertiveness and confidence as he progresses through the program.

-A physical game with not many fouls called the first 10-15 minutes of thegame, then all of a sudden a lot of whistles. In the end, we won the battle at the line.

-It was gut check time when EW Jr nailed the three to put the Dukes up for good. Huge game from him and so needed for the Dukes. They've played better since the Fordham game, just haven;t gotten the W.

-Very nice tribute to Ray Goss during the first media TO and the fans rightfully gave him the deserved ovation that lasted the whole media TO.

-While the turnovers where high in number, dealing with the different defenses SLU threw at them, not much else to complain about on offense as a whole. Good shooting numbers and a 115 ORTG on a tough defensive team.

-Hope it carries over to Saturday versus the league's worst defensive team in UMass.

-Hoping to avoid the PIG round! A win ensures it, losses by LaSalle (@ St Joe's) and GW (@ Dayton) avoids it would work too but obviously getting the win over UMass is the priority.

-If that was it for Palumbo this season, it's been fun. Hopefully there's a CBI game or three in our future though.
