CLK, I think he has to start winning as well. What's annoying is the constant whining. Last season has been over for 5 months, and a new season is on the horizon. What is the point of these people who are constantly harping on last season? Ferry knows the team failed last year, and that the defense was horrible. How about looking forward instead. If the team gives us more of the same, I won't question anyone's right to vent. Until then, a wait and see attitude makes more sense. This is the year where most expected us to have a solid team. Until that fails to happen, I'm giving Ferry the benefit of the doubt.

So let me harp one last time, if you will. My point has never been about crying over "spilt milk," whether it's last season, Everhart, Amodio, Red Manning, Dudey Moore or the ghost of Old Main. I get frustrated when I read quotes by Ferry that say things are going to change, BUT, it will happen with Jones, Colter, Mason, Gill et al doing the same things this year they've been doing.

My only point about the past is that if that crap has proven never to work before, then how am I supposed to invest into believing it will work this year? It won't. I don't see Ferry figuring any of this out, and I don't see any hope even for improvement (noting that hope is not a plan) until there's a turnover in the players.

And now I'll keep my mouth shut for a while.

Not sure that this post means much more than they visited a D1 school, but heres hoping Littleson commits as he looks like he would be a nice pick up and steal for DU from what I can see about him.

Rashad Phillips ‏@RP3natural 1h1 hour ago 5yrs ago these 2 parents brought me their son and told me he wanted to play D1 basketball. 5 yrs later here we are.

Is basketball like College football...1 to 4 stars?  If it is, all these 2 stars is pretty sad.  If not, okay then.

It is a tough thing to really rate. I believe Aaron Jackson was a 2 star.

It is actually 1 to 5 stars.  What is perhaps of importance is average stars for the conference, where DU is 10th of 14 (ahead of Fordham, Richmond, St Bona, and Davidson).  What is also noticable is that on the verbalcommits site Micah and Colter have the same ratings as Christian Johnson and Nick Foschia (all at two stars).

Re: Recruiting

The star system outside of the upper echelon guys is a joke. Classic example locally was Ryan Luther a 2 star or lower until he signed with Pitt at which point he immediately was listed as a 3 star. ESPN wasn't even offering coverage of him until Pitt's signing of him. No one can measure heart or determination. Making a living predicting the future of 17 / 18 year olds is ridiculous.

Re: Recruiting

There is no doubt that one can't live by stars.  But you also can't totally discount the system.  The idea that it is actuallly 1-5 stars and we don't see one offering for a 3 star or higher and many of the 2 stars are a fight just points out, again, how poor the Duquesne Basketball Program is.  I agree you can't ever measure heart, determination, etc.  But the 3-5 stars are talent and that is another reason why we are where we are.  I mean, he isn't in the mix for at least one, 3 or 4 star.  Even ArmPitts football program, whose recruiting is poor offers some of the higher folks.

Dome, this is right on point.  Unless you are a 4 or 5 star it means nothing, and even then it is sometimes flawed.  Look at DU's Mar'Qywell Jackson.  he was rated by some services as a 4 star but will probably not start.  The kids on DU's list from what I can see are quality prospects.  Ibi Watson is listed as a 2 star, and yet he just committed to Michigan (watch his rating go up). Huerter, Matthews, Quentin Jacksons, Baddley and Painter ( all currently rated a 2 star) are all kids that exploded in AAU play this summer and are all big time players.

If I had my wish from the guys currently offered (and still considering DU) I would love to see  Ferry get Nathan Knight.  He is a 6'8" kid from upstate NY who is exactly the kind of versital,  mobile, big DU needs.  As shown in the video,  he is a Soko type player who can block shots, chase down rebounds, lead the fast break, beat his man off the dribble, make free throws, take it outside as well as hitting the mid range jump shot, and strong offensive put backs

Re: Recruiting

What are the thoughts about Spencer Littleson, who is committed to Duquesne? From the video, he looks like he can shoot from the outside. I don't want to be stereotypical, but he does not look to be particularly quick. This is based on very limited video.

Re: Recruiting

He's rated as the 5th best player out of Michigan this year and has been termed a "great get" for Duquesne.  I'm not worried about his ability to blow by defenders, that's not important.  We need guys who understand the game and are willing to play a team game.  In addition to his shooting, I like his passing, so I think it's a good start to the recruiting class.

As a 2 guard, he doesn't need to be as quick as say, TJ, who played the point. Mason is not particularly quick. Sterling Gibbs, who had a nice career as a 2 guard for Pitt, was another guy who lacked athleticsm, but was effective. The 1, and the 3, are where you really can't afford to be too unathletic.

As I mentioned previously in a post above, this is one of the mobile bigs Ferry is recruiting who can run the court, rebound and block shots.  He is proportedly a late bloomer who is now 6'8" and still growing and developing.

I hope we can get a commitment from him.  I would hate to see the Bonnies get this kid.

Hopefully he has learned from whatever the issue was that led to his dismissal from St. Benedict's when he was 16.
