Re: Recruiting

Dome, D102 and CurrentStudent, I couldn't agree more with the underutilization of Jordan R.  There has to be more to the story, but in the limited time he has played I scratch my head and say why doesn't he play more!  Yes his defensive positioning needed to be better, and I think it has progressed, but he provides a low post scoring threat and he can also make the 10' jumper.  He can't block shots or intimidate like Lewis, but his O game is much more polished.  It would drive me crazy watching Lewis turn with the ball at hip level and someone would tie him up.  I suspect Ferry cares more about the defense than JR's offense and I get that, but that doesn't mean JR can't get 7 or 8 minutes and help keep Lewis out of foul trouble - which is an ongoing occurrence.  Maybe someone on the inside can find out what the hell the story is with him.  It will be interesting to see if anyone does leave or if someone offered can't get admitted.

Again totally agree, this goes back to the argument of developing guys for the future. When JR and Sanders get 1-3 minutes every 2-3 games you have to worry more about their being a bigger drop off when other guys leave.

Re: Recruiting

I don't believe JR has played since the VCU game where everyone had 2 fouls including Sanders who is now in front of him in the depth chart?????
I have been constantly confounded by Ferry's substitution patterns. BTW while watching RMU / St. Francis the other night Toole on two separate occassions prior to TV timeouts got his guards a minute or two prior to the actual TV timeouts so they wound up getting 4/5 minutes downtime.

Re: Recruiting

Sanders has been in front of Robinson on the depth charge since almost the start. This despite the fact that Sanders has no offensive moves and shots to speak of. He is a project, albeit an athletic project.  But at this stage of the season, neither of these two is seeing floor time. Robinson none, Sanders a few minutes here and there.

Like others, I have seen some signs that Robinson could contribute, and am dumbfounded as to why he's anchored to the pine.

Re: Recruiting

I have one question. Why don't we just try to go after players that assume we can't get. I am not talking about top 25 players in the countries. I am talking about players that other A-10 programs are competing for. Players like "RayShaun 'Rayshaun' Hammonds" and "JP 'Jaquar' Moorman".

The worst thing that will happen is that they go somewhere else. But I feel like our name in the mix of school these talented players are deciding to go to makes us look more elite and maybe just maybe one of these players takes the chance with us.

I know I shouldn't be talking about recruiting at this point of the year but I truly feel this is how we get better. If
John Caliper came in here with this roster they will still lose to a UK roster coached by Jim ferry by a blow out.

At the end of the day players play the game.

Re: Recruiting

Another 2016 offer to a power forward.  Draw your own conclusions.

2/25/2016 - 2016 PF Lorenzo Edwards (6-7, 200, 2★) has received an offer from Duquesne

Re: Recruiting

2016 Evelyn Mack (NC) F Isaiah Whaley 6'9" PF has received an offer from Duquesne.  Whaley is an intriguing prospect who is super long and athletic.  He is a great rebounder on both ends and can block shots with the best.  He proved he can knock down the mid range jumper with regularity and the occasional 3 ball for good measure. As his skill catches up with his size the sky is the limit.

PoP ‏@PremierBall   5h5 hours ago 2016 Duquesne signee 6'8 W Isiaha Mike; Trinity International takes MVP in the 1st inaugural Las Vegas Basketball Classic

He outplayed 2016 Gonzaga signee 7'0 C Zach Collins to win this honor.  I believe this kid is an upgrade for Powell.  He has all of the athletic ability, plus he can shoot and defend.  Don't be surprised if he and Littleson eventually become starters next season.

CLK, I agree. Mike seems to have decent range on his jump shot. That is one thing that Powell really lacked and kept him from becoming a good all-around player. Hopefully whatever disciplinary issues mike had were just an aberration. Littleson and mike are the main reasons why I haven't given up all hope with the way the last month and a half have unfolded.

Re: Recruiting

I don't know if this is on anyone's radar but Duquesne offered Andre Wesson/SF/6-6 out of Ohio.
This dude looks like a beast, has offers from Richmond and George Mason. Rumors that Ohio State has seen him play but has not offered him yet.
If we can land him....massive victory for DU basketball.
