STATS makes predictions for the NCAA FCS Playoffs, including the Dukes

The Dukes' regular football season will be at the half way point when the Dukes, 3-2 (0-0) play Bobby Mo, 1-5 (0-1), at Rooney Field on Saturday at 7:00 pm.  It may be a little early for such predictions, but many sports writers need to make a living by writing such articles.  STATS' senior editor, Craig Haley, provides his picks below.

Regarding the game against Robert Morris, Sagarin makes the Dukes an 18 pts. (17.77 pts.- actually) favorite over the Colonials.  Robert Morris has been pathetic this season.  Since John Banaszak has become Bobby Mo's head coach, the team and has had a record of 6-22 in 2 1/2 seasons.  (Could his job be in jeopardy? [More info on his being dismissed at W&J: http://triblive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/college/district/s_107781.html])  I hope the Dukes win 35-0 and give the Dukes' #2 QB, Brett Braumbaugh, a chance to play should the Dukes rack up a big lead.  The Dukes' following NEC football game at St. Francis on Friday, October 21 should be much more of a challenge for the Dukes .  Note that both games will be televised by ESPN3.

STATS FCS Senior Editor (STATS) -

Who's in, who's out? Midseason is a time to start looking into the STATS crystal ball at the potential FCS playoff field.

Selection Sunday is Nov. 20. The big winner to date is CAA Football, which comes in with the most projected bids at five, and it's nearly six because Stony Brook is the first team left out of the 24-team field. Some adjustments in the way the NCAA selection committee constructs the bracket will make for a more balanced field. Conferences with four or more bids won't be jammed into one side of the bracket and the committee can adjust a seed line to maintain balance (it's done below with Richmond and Youngstown State).

PROJECTED BIDS BY CONFERENCE *- automatic qualifier

Big Sky (4): Cal Poly (3-2), *Eastern Washington (5-1), Montana (4-1), North Dakota (4-2)
Big South (1): *Charleston Southern (3-2)
