Re: Yahoo! Reports on College BB Underbelly

Interesting verbatim quote from a Steve Buchanan on the Arizona equivalent to this basketball board on a possible Sean Miller contractual obligation scenario:"The following isn't the entire contract, only the important points regarding termination, from the minutes of the ABOR meeting of June 8, 2012. This contract has been superseded by revisions with increases in salary, and other things, but this tells you what you need to know.I don't think this information squares with the other, inaccurate reports earlier.(Contract language) "The University may terminate Miller for cause. As noted, Miller will forfeit receipt of
the Retention Fund if he is terminated for cause. Should the University terminate
Miller for cause, it will only be obligated to pay his Base Salary and Related
Compensation to the date of termination. If Miller is terminated for cause based on a
material violation of NCAA or Conference regulations, he will be obligated to pay the
University up to $300,000 to offset any actual damages sustained by the University
as a result of such violation. Miller will further be obligated to refund any incentive
compensation earned for victories that are subsequently vacated by the NCAA.
?
Should the University terminate Miller’s employment without cause prior to the
expiration of the Contract, it will pay him a sum equal to one-half of the then total of
his Base Salary and Related Compensation for the time remaining on the Contract.
Miller will not have to rebate money to the University if he obtains new employment.

Re: Yahoo! Reports on College BB Underbelly

An interesting twist on what Sean Miller may or may not be entitled to as far as compensation when and if he is canned by the U of A.  The following is a verbatim pasting of a post by a Steve Buchanan on the Arizona Men's Basketball Board that seem to the the equivalent of this board:

(Writes Buchanan
"The following isn't the entire contract, only the important points regarding termination, from the minutes of the ABOR meeting of June 8, 2012. This contract has been superseded by revisions with increases in salary, and other things, but this tells you what you need to know.I don't think this information squares with the other, inaccurate reports earlier."(Quoting from records of an ABOR meeting) "The University may terminate Miller for cause. As noted, Miller will forfeit receipt of the Retention Fund if he is terminated for cause. Should the University terminate Miller for cause, it will only be obligated to pay his Base Salary and Related Compensation to the date of termination. If Miller is terminated for cause based on a material violation of NCAA or Conference regulations, he will be obligated to pay the
University up to $300,000 to offset any actual damages sustained by the University
as a result of such violation. Miller will further be obligated to refund any incentive
compensation earned for victories that are subsequently vacated by the NCAA.

expiration of the Contract, it will pay him a sum equal to one-half of the then total of
his Base Salary and Related Compensation for the time remaining on the Contract.
Miller will not have to rebate money to the University if he obtains new employment.

I didn't think the U of A or any other school would be so stupid as to insert a clause in a coach's contract that would obligate a school to pay more if a coach was discharged for cause as opposed to a straight dismissal without cause.  So I decided to do some research and came up with this information.
