Wildwood13, thanks for your research in posting this. I never saw or put 2 + 2 together regarding the high quality of coaches the Dukes went up against.  And if they beat Pitt, you could have added John Wooden to that list - a rivalry game with McHugh out and Durham hurt playing very limited minutes and not the best in-game coaching job of Red's career.

Certainly no doubt that we have not seen a better Duquesne team since then.

Thanks, BluffHunter. It's worth a watch, about 15 minutes.  But Keith talked about scheduling and the difficulties for the Dukes, the initial team workouts, his view of areas of strength and weaknesses of the Dukes, etc.

Probably real simple. Whether walk on, non qualifier, or something else. 15 in the fold and until I see otherwise 13 is not 13, it is 15 and I am fine with it.

Tallahassee CC offers 100 and 200 level courses.
If Ellis goes for two years, he receives an AA degree
and uses up two years of eligibility which leaves him
one year as a transfer to whatever D1 school he can find.
It appears he had significant academic issues otherwise he
wouldn't go JUCO.
Too bad.  It was a bold try by KD that fell a bit short.
I wish Ellis the best and he realizes his potential.

I don't think that this move to a Junior College is necessarily about grades or academic standing.  I think it has more to do with the fact that another Division 1 school would need to tie up 3 years of scholarships for 2 years of playing.  James would need to sit out next year and he would only have 2 years of eligibility left (since he burnt his redshirt year when he sat out).

Schools don't want to make that kind of roster spot investment on an unproven player; there is no college game tape for James.  He can go to Tallahassee, play some fairly high level basketball and show what he can do.  Then, he get a scholarship and enroll at a D-1 school without having to sit out a year, become immediately eligible and still have 2 years of eligibility left.

Only players that are proven college basketball players get that opportunity for 3 years scholarship for 2 playing - see Eric Williams.

Finally a shoe drops.

but as the article states, two more to go... this is killing me man

If you listen closely to the Austin Rotroff interview posted in another thread there is a point in the interview where it is mentioned that we lose "our 6th man who is a graduate transfer" . I think we may be hearing something about this player in the next week or so. I'll leave it up to you to determine if this story has any legs or not. https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons2/winking.png

He was referring to Baylee Steele, who was the 6th man this year.

As expected, James is heading to a junior college - Tallahassee CC. Hopefully he can take advantage of what may be his last opportunity.

Basketball Recruiting » 2022 Contact Period » 6/16/2020 5:03 pm

My favorite recruit's name, buried in the PSN story, is Elmore James IV.  As George Harrison said, "Elmore James got nothin' on this, baby."

Duquesne Football » Bobby Mo looking to leave the NEC » 6/05/2020 3:09 pm

If RMU leaves for the Horizon or the MAAC, then I would expect that the Dukes/RMU will be able to finalize some sort of scheduling arrangement for men's basketball in the future.
