According to Jon Rothstein, "Seton Hall is expected to join Louisville's MTE at the KFC Yum Center. Pirates would match up with the Cardinals in one of the games"

Hopefully DU will get a shot at one or both of these teams..

If you look closely, you'll see I said the hardest part may be getting under the limit for THIS year. This rule could help us big time next year though.

I understood your post.  I was just pointing out the impact on recruiting, not criticizing or disputing your post. Peace.

We will be loaded next year if the guys decide to come back. I could see Weathers and Hughes getting pro interest, if not from the NBA than certainly overseas. If they do come back though, it would definitely be the most talented roster we've had in decades (and one of the most experienced) to go along with the best coach we've had in that time. The hardest thing might be getting under the 13 limit for this year. If we can figure that out, next year will be easy (except for actually having expectations for the first time in possibly that long too).
1) Hughes
2) Weathers
3) TDM
4) Rotroff
5) Sincere
6) Norman
7) Kelly
8) Austin
9) Harris
10) Baker
11) Roesing
12) Acuff
13) Okani
14) Bekelja

Some of you may have seen this. Last week the NCAA has granted an extra year of eligibility for all winter sports athletes including basketball.  Those players who have exhausted their eligibility (players like Hughes, Weathers and TDM should they decide to return next year) will not be counted against 13 player max roster.

On the recruiting trail, 2021 Shaun Walker a 6'7" 230 lb Power Forward had a virtual visit to Duquesne last week.  He seems to be a bit of a project, but is gaining interest from several schools.  his only offer is McNees State.

Dukes sign the contract for Louisville MTE.  No other non conference games scheduled yet for DU per KD.  See TRIB Article link below.  While there are 5 teams committed now in the Louisville MTE, Louiville is still trying to expand the bubble to 8 to 12 teams per the Louisville local beat writer.

According to the Louisville basketball beat writer: "another commitment to the Louisville basketball bubble has arrived in Arkansas Little Rock. The Trojans went 21-10 (15-5 Sun Belt) last season and won the regular-season conference title. That makes four teams with contracts in: Duquesne, UNCG, Winthrop and Arkansas LR."

I think this is shaping up to be a nice MTE. At this point, assuming all the other teams sign their contracts I don't know why DU wouldn't also sign, unless they have a better offer guaranteed and all locked up.

Sources: Louisville's MTE has received commitments from Duquesne, UNC Greensboro, and Winthrop. More teams are expected to be added.

Thanks, CLK.  It's puzzling to me why Mike hasn't received the recognition that he has deserved, especially when playing for a winning team. Not that he needs any additional motivation, but these snubs help fuel the fire.

Phoenix, last year he definitely should have been on the All Defensive team.  This year when the Dukes win the A10 he will have his revenge.

That is perhaps the difference, VBC.  If Al Demao makes it through to the next round he no doubt would face Art Rooney.  I don't see how anyone beats Mr. Rooney in Pittsburgh.

Thanks luckymcd but I am dead serious about Boyd Brumbaugh and Al DeMao and Mike Basrak et al. Those were all NFL caliber players in their day and Duquesne was a top level D 1 team.I don't know if you saw the bio section and Ray Kemp was the first African American Steeler and well before Jackie Robinson and hardly anyone knows about him. There was a time when the debate over GOAT for QB was probably Otto Graham or Johnny Unitas and now neither get mentioned. Check out the bio for information about the players as there is some good Duquesne football history and thanks again.

Jack, I'm sorry to see that of the great football players from Duquesne's long ago glory days only Al DeMao remains in the voting competition.  In my opinion Mike Basrak narrowly edges out Al DeMao for the greatest of all time.  All American status means a lot to me.  It disappoints me that these men are not being given the respect that they are surely due.  Kudos to you for voting for Boyd Brumbaugh over yourself.  That shows integrity.  Al DeMao will be getting my vote in the future rounds.

Thanks VBC,  There were so many great DU players of yesteryear that most DU fans never heard of, and Mike Basrak was certainly one of them. I don't know if I am reading your comment correctly, but Al Demao was also an All American.  In 1941 he was selected a 1st team  All American by Life Magazine, 2nd team by United Press, and 3rd team by NEA Sports Syndicate..  I guess back then there were about twelve major selection groups.  Not sure why the DU website does not list him as an All American player in his bio.

Judge Jack, you are not only a great DU football player, but if there was an award for the greatest Duquesne gentleman of all time you would win hands down.

Judge, thanks for the link.  I know I am biased, but Al Demao's accomplishments are had to beat.. All American, All Pro twice, voted one of the greatest Redskins of all time, and decorated war hero.

- Played for the Dukes 1939 - 1941
- Tied with Leigh Bodden and Armand Niccolai for longest NFL career (9 years)
- Played in the 1941 Blue-Gray and College All-Star games
- Voted one of 70 greatest members of Washington Football Team of all-time
- Made the Pro Bowl in 1950 and 1952
- Commanded nine transport boat landings as a U.S. Navy lieutenant during the invasion at Normandy
- Duquesne Hall of Fame (1972)

I think the firing of Ron had a lot to do wth WVU discontinuing the series, however, CBB has changed dramatically with the increased league play.  I am not sure these old guaranteed annual rivalry games would have continued with the poor teams we fielded since 2013.  The last two years things have changed with the recent success, however, DU still needs to continue win more and get into the NCAA before they are considered by power schools for scheduling.

I have to think that DU and other small schools are scrambling to put together a final (if there is such a thing) schedule.

Why not play Bobby Mo, or St. Francis if games are so hard to find?

I am sure KD is trying to put together the best non conference schedule he can. This year the Dukes have their best team and their best chance in many years to get into the NCAA, and to do this they need quality wins. Right now I think his top priority is getting into one of the bubble tournaments which would give the Dukes the opportunity to play more games than scheduling single games. Here is an example of one of the bubbles trying to form.

Like I said there are a lot of teams scrambling to get in the best position. We will have to wait and see how this all shakes ou.

The committees also agreed on Friday to reduce the maximum allowable regular-season games for this season. It's normally 31, but now it will be targeted at 28 if a team plays in an MTE, or 26 if it does not. The minimum allowable number of games for postseason consideration is targeted for 13, a number NCAA senior vice president of basketball Dan Gavitt lobbed out as a possibility Thursday on the "Courtside with Dakich and Greenberg" podcast. The stipulation for 13 games, according to one source, is all 13 games must be against Division I competition.

KD has never brought in more than 8 players, at least at DU.  So don't know what you are referring to.

The article mentioned an NCAA rule at the time setting a maximum on scholarships awarded over two years at eight. It's not even a matter of eight scholarships on the books over two years, because the article is about Jack May transferring and Nee not being able to replace his scholarship because of the rule. I don't believe that rule is still in effect, but if it was Dambrot and predecessors would have broken it a few times. By my count, we awarded 13 scholarships between 2017 and 2018 and have awarded 12 scholarships over the last two years.

Thanks for the clarification on the article.  If the rule was or is that you can't give more than 8 scholarships over two consecutive years KD is in good company.  With transfers at an epidemic pace I am sure there are many coaches who blown through this rule.
