I'm thinking of his average at Youngstown.

This is making me anxious waiting to see who comes back, who transfers out, who transfers in.  It is basically 2 weeks since our season was over and I am wondering what Mike and Marcus are still deliberating????  I further suspect maybe Dre is waiting to see what Marcus does before he decides what he wants to do, but this is just a hunch.  Obviously we are vigorously pursuing players in the portal and in HS, especially the PG position, but it sure would be nice to hear something soon!!!  Go Dukes!!!

Marcus may be waiting for his brother to finish up. His bro might hit the portal after they lose.

This is a player from Midland that was being pushed hard by a poster on the Pitt board a few years back. He started in the MAC, but did the last two years at Colgate. Colgate is in the tourney, so I'm interested in watching him. As a redshirt junior, he was just over 12 points a game. He's not deadly from 3, but shoots a respectable 37%.He's a 6 foot off guard, so he's not big, but bigger than TDM. I don't know if he's looking to step up, but I'm assuming he gets 2 years, and would be a low risk addition to a team that badly needs outside shooting. The guy on the Pitt board pushed him hard, and took a lot of abuse for it, but I'd be interested in bringing him home.

He was also Player Of The Year locally as a senior.

Not being argumentative or disagreeable, but I have a few different thoughts from you and duq81 on the topic.
1. I think you have to give guys a couple years under the best circumstances to develop. This was a really crappy year for the Dukes: multiple COVID stops, two starters leave mid-year, etc. Rick Suder would've never been thought of as a "proven scorer" after his freshman year, and he turned out to be one of the best shooters in DU history.
2. Coach threw four freshmen into the fire and I think they all showed they're going to be players. Chad Baker was close to 10 ppg on a senior-dominated team and shot 40% from 3 and 80% from the line. When the season starts, other teams will be keying on him because they will think of him as a proven scorer. I think Okani, Acuff and Harris will all bring their games up a notch, especially if we give them a good PG and a post player who can fill the middle defensively the way Michael Hughes has.
3. Pipkins-Price-Bosnic-Price was a talented quartet, but not much behind them and they certainly didn't win many as a team.
4. Rice's second year (Moon-Atkins-Arnold-BB-Dixon). Talk about a guy not being "proven:" Fred Moon was a 5th year player who had done nothing for four years then stepped up and shot 60% from the field and gave us some rebounding. But Moon didn't do a lot of scoring. That all came from BB (15ppg), Arnold (15ppg) and Atkins (10ppg, whose season was slowed down by a bout of mono. BB and Bruce both lost about 5 ppg off their averages from the previous year. Losing John Moore that year to injury was also a killer.

The guys we have may turn out great, but we knew how loaded that 79-80 team was from the door, The collapse after starting 10-1 was ju

I think TDM, Hughes, and Weathers would be great to have back. Not really the big guys fault that we cannot shoot from the outside. Chad baker puts more muscle on and he’s going to be hard to defend. Acuff looks better every game he plays along with Harris and Okani. I am not too sure about Maceo and Rotroff they might need to explore different options neither good enough to play D1 hoops. Most importantly we need a deadly shooter whether that be a grad transfer or true freshman. Also, wouldn’t mind adding a real tall big for rebounds and put backs.

Obviously Hughes, and Weathers, but not TDM. We need a better option than him. Maceo has been a huge disappointment. I don't know what to do there.

The last game was horrible I will say that and was frustrating to watch but it is so hard to play a few games then get shutdown for a month and then finally start playing good only to be shutdown again. Every team has to deal with this I know but it never becomes normal for young kids. Especially it can be tough for shooters since you’re not getting in a rhythm in terms of playing regularly. In terms of TDM the guy can shoot the ball but it’s hard playing point and being a shooter. When they had Frankie Hughes, Eric Williams, and TDM it was a pick your poison cause all of them could shoot the ball while having a guy at point in Sincere Carry who played point for the majority of the game and conserved their energy. In terms of bringing in Micah that’s a waste of a hire no player being brought in is going to completely change their shooting form especially at this level. Also they have Ashton Gibbs on the staff who like him or not was a great shooter at Pitt. I understand the concern after a tough game but the program is moving up not down with KD and now the new arena. If he pulls out a winning record this year that would be 3 years in a row with a winning record when was the last time anybody saw that. As fans we need to trust the process KD is winning and has been able to recruit some players no one has wanted and make them good. That comes with a few misses every now and again like Brandon wade and rotroff but with the new facility we are more likely to bring even better players in. Trust the process!

I agree with most of you guys, especially CLK and 81', and after a morning discussion with my good friend the GMan, let me reiterate a couple of points that fall on KD's doorstep:
1. KD, in the last recruiting class said "we've addressed length" (correct) and "we've address shooting"...I call bullsh..
2. As GMan has pointed out in 4 years our best 1 or 2 guard recruit was Sin, let's face it.  And when the other PG's you recruit are called Evan Buckley,  Brandon Wade and Belechik (as Iron Duke calls him) then you have failed at bringing in any competition to SC and you end up having to kiss his ass and put up with his dissatisfaction - and also offer his brother who had no other offers a scholie.  I do still think Acuff can be a good player, but I question his quickness too - like someone else posted.  GMan said he'd like to see us recruit some guards at the 1 and 2 out of NYC, Philly, Jersey or DC and I wholeheartedly agree with him.  KD has limited himself to the Michigan and Ohio areas it seems to me, look at who the one guy we signed for next year (and the kid seems to me like a Jett except 2" taller), and that leads me to point #3.
3.  I've said this before and I'll say it again, this coaching staff may need a shake-up to expand recruiting areas and bring in a fresh perspective on talent evaluation and game strategy at a minimum.  KD crows about how long his staff has been with him and fellas that is not necessarily a good thing.  You don't want a turnstile of assistant coaches, but you don't want the same faces for 2 decades either - they get too comfortable!!
4. KD deserves to start taking some the heat.  Everyone is dealing with the same issues in the conference and this is year 4 for KD.  When have we recruited quality guards at the 1 and 2 other than SC??? We were supposed to have a lock down shooter in Jett and he can't see the Court.  We've never recruited anyone better than Marcus and Mike who were broug

You can't win if you can't make shots, and this has been the same problem for KD for the last 4 years.  The dukes try to compensate in other areas like defense, and post play, but that can only carry you so far.  It comes down to this, he needs to recruit better players who can shoot as well as defend.  There are a couple freshman players who have shown potential, but have not proven themselves to be consistent.  What you would expect from most freshman.  In my humble opinion KD should be looking at the best transfer players he can get.  In today's world it is the best way to rebuild.

Agreed 100%.

I agree with the judge and the president. In the immediate aftermath of such an ugly loss it's hard to not be down on the team. I do like the pieces we have though (including the coach).

If even just Weathers and Hughes could get it going in the same game we can beat anyone in the A-10. If the outside shots are also falling that game we can compete with just about anybody. The preview Phoenix posted said LaSalle was one of the most schizophrenic teams in the country, but we weren't far behind. You'd expect that from true freshmen. Even the fifth year seniors seems to come and go though. Weathers and Hughes seem to alternate who takes over games and TDM is still as streaky as ever.

The talent is definitely in place. The coaches have done a good job assembling a team as talented as any in the conference. They did a great job reassembling it on the fly after the departures. They need to take that next step and bring it all together.

Talent in the backcourt is lacking. TDM is having his worst year, Acuff hasn't shown much, and Maceo is nowhere near the impact player he was expected to be. The way the game is now played, you need guys who can shoot. We're severely lacking there. KD needs to get a competent point guard in here, as well as a 2 that can hit the open 3.

Good explanation Dennis.  In my opinion this is a direct attempt to rescue St Louis from their A-10 struggles after emerging from Covid shutdown.  They quickly lost two games and have a winnable game at Dayton tonight, but I guess the A10 doesn't want to bruise St. Louis' ego  by seeding then according to their record, so they came up with this plan to guarantee them a high seed and basically de-emphasizing their performance on the court.

St Louis and VCU look to be in good positions to make the NCAA as long as they play Ok down the stretch and in the A10 tournament.  I don't know that the A10 gets a third team unless someone else wins the league tourney.

I think the opposite is actually true. I think they set the threshold so low so that as few teams as possible end up using it. In the end I think only GW will end up falling short of 60 percent of median and end up using the NET rankings. As for the tournament, I agree with your analysis. There are a few A-10 teams on the bubble, but only St. Louis and VCU have at-large resumes at this point.

Bona, and Richmond could get on the bubble with wins in the A10, provided they don't collapse over the next week or so.

Problem Technical fouls, Crutchers 3& subsequent tip in. Result over wins. This is why I don’t bet. This was also Duquesnes second appearance on Bad Beat$. Remember double technical 6 point swing against Dambrot vs. PSU thanks to Brian Dorsey.

You have to accept that with the Coop, we're competing with our A10 peers, and similar programs. It's a very nice arena at that level. It's not going to blow away media types that cover games in 10,000+ seat palaces. It's smaller, but nicer than say, Carneseca Arena, but pales against what most of the big schools play in. It fits our level, with the backup being that PPG is basically on campus if we ever reach a point where we can draw 10,000 plus for selected big games.

Someone mentioned Nirvana. They blew up 30 years ago. The issue, as it always is, is that for older folks, 25 years ago seems recent. For young people, it's an eon. 1991 to current young folks is as distant as 1951 was for us back in 81. I don't think any of us would have been hyped up by a 1951 Sinatra tune back in 81. The tunes from the 60s and 70s are as old as stuff from the 20s, and 30s was back then. The Steelers can get away with old tunes because they have an old fan base. We're trying to attract students, and other young people to the games. The middle age crowd is long lost to Pitt, and will only show up for big games like Dayton, especially if it's at PPG. Got to attract the young if you want to build a new fanbase.
