I'm not so sure that Watkins is that big of a loss. If he was as good as was hoped, he certainly would have seen a lot more PT once he was activated. Something just didn't add up there.

Are you kidding me? Did we lose? Last I heard, the Dukes were up by 10 with less than 5 minutes to go. Good Lord!

One thing puzzles me completely.....free throw shooting.. Duquesne has been dreadful at the free throw line since forever, it seems. The problem has outlived complete coaching staffs, completely different sets of players and and gone on for more than a decade. Why? Is it because the program has had to hope for more "athletic" project-type players to develop once they hit college? Is it that the program has had very few "complete" basketball players interested in playing for the school?

It just seems that parts of the game which are considered to be basic skills (like shooting free throws) are always lacking compared to the opponent on any given night. This game didn't need to get out of hand if they had just converted a few more FT's.

Colin must be a couple steps behind his brother is it was an "all or none" proposal; The fact that Ryan Luther committed to Pitt isn't the least bit surprising to me.

Ferry had a pretty nice recruiting class. I can't help but think that they'll be vastly improved over last year's team. Yeah, they're young but the talent level went up a notch or so between March and now.

Yeah, hands down, Stevenson had to be the best one-year player the Dukes ever had.

Keep in mind though, that team was bereft of talent, so Carroll pretty much gave Stevenson the green light to do whatever he wanted. He would never have put those numbers up if the team had been more talented. Not that he wasn't good, but he wouldn't have had quite the same freedom on a good team.

Yeah, you're probably right. That team was really bad. Stevenson was probably the single legitimate Division I player on the team....he almost had to put up those numbers.

I'm with you on most of your lineup, but I see White starting immediately. He led JUCO in scoring and could push Colter to a backup role quickly. Either way, Colter or White would have to be one of the best backup point guards in the A10.

Yep, full boat, but a heck of a lot of new faces. Somehow, I'm feeling a lot more optimistic about the team's chances entering next year, opposed to this year. There'll be a lot more size, that's for sure.

Are there going to be enough scholarship players to have 5 on 5 practice games? We had lots of turnover under Everhart. Looks like Ferry is going to pursue a similar course of action. Either that, or the kids opting out can't stand playing for him. One way or another, it still doesn't look good.

I don't trust the BE at all. Their presence is like having a rattlesnake inside your sleeping bag with you....one little change of mood and it'll bite you. Take my word for it, they'll strike  whenever the worst possible time in the future is. They've taken too many chunks out of the A10 over the years to leave any doubts in my mind.

So, who are the players that make up this class? I see Watkins listed on Scout's database. Watkins and White are listed on the Rivals base. I know we have Jordan Robinson and Desmond Ridenour. Is there another player coming in this year?

All I can say is "WOW". This guy is a total psycho. I would have supported bringing this guy over from Bobby Mo before he took the Rutgers job. Sure glad that didn't happen!

I don't know how to post a link. The footage is on Yahoo's home page right now, though.

Glad to hear this, but I sure wish he'd be available next year. Oh well, might work out for the better because it's gonna take another good recruiting effort next year to make this team competitive and then he'll be hopefully be able to play out his last couple of years with a better cast of players.

I don't think that was what he was getting at. The prevailing attitude at the time (although I was born in 1957, so 2nd or 3rd hand info) frowned on inter-racial dating, which just might have been the issue. Just a guess.

Here's something that might work in our favor......The Gamecocks have 2 shooting guards committed already. One of them, Sindarius Thornwell, is a 4 star recruit, rated as the #5 SG in the country.

This interest regarding recruitment seems out of the normal to me. I follow Penn State in football, and the anticipation surrounding Notice is similar to what most of Penn State's recruits have. Usually, the Dukes get a guy who commits and we find out about it 6 weeks later, minus any fanfare whatsoever.

Actually, it's kind of nice to have the speculation and I have my fingers crossed on getting him.

I know his reputation as a shooter precedes him....gotta' be considered a plus, but with his medical and eating limitations, wouldn't it be problematic for just about any road trip of any length?

It's a good thing to retain the top coaches in the conference and keep them there. However, to turn down UCLA, does he maybe have some insider knowledge that VCU will be offered a spot in the BE soon? Maybe I'm just paranoid, but when it comes to BE expansion/raiding I'm always concerned.

Great move, if true, that is. Gotta' move quickly to stem the bleeding. That is, until the next time the BE schools want to bleed off more teams from the A10.

God I hate that conference.....Villanova back in the early years, then Pitt. They waited a while and then siphoned VaTech, WVU and Rutgers off us in one fell swoop. Now it's two more premiere teams, with the defection of SLU and Dayton looming down the road..

Usually I'm pulling like crazy for our felloow A10 schools to do well in the tournament, but this year...meh.

The A10 has done exceeding;y well so far, but with this caveaut......Temple wins, gone next year. St Louis wins, gone next year. One year member, Butler, wins....gone next year. So even taking pride in the accomplishments of the conference is feeling kind of an empty pride this time around.
