Welcome to SHOO-SHOO, RAH-RAH! The Duquesne Dukes Basketball Fan Message Board!
One of America's Great Message Boards - Any Inappropriate Posts Will Be Deleted!
I wouldn't overlook Austin Peay. Terry Taylor has had a couple of breakout games, including a 39-point performance last night. He's dangerous — remember how Pistol Pete went off on us in '68-69, ending our nine-game winning streak to start the season. The Dukes have to keep him in check on Saturday. Pretty pathetic that they apparently don't even have a website and obviously haven't promoted the Shootout. I'm planning to attend, as long as I can find the Eckerd gym, but I suspect not many others will be in attendance. Last year's opening round drew a total of 158 people. Seriously. Anyone on this message board planning to attend the St. Pete Shootout this weekend in St. Petersburg, Florida? Phil95, perhaps? I'm planning to drive down from Jacksonville in northeast Florida and would like to meet up with any Duquesne fans while I'm there. Wow. Talk about a game of streaks. "Despite Saturday’s stunning setback, Jerry Schmitt’s banged-up Iron Dukes are still very much in contention in the Northeast Conference. Assuming Duquesne defeats Bryant (2-8, 1-4 NEC) on the road next weekend and that Central Connecticut prevails at home against Robert Morris, the Dukes could force a two or three-way tie in the conference with a win against CCSU in the season finale at Rooney Field in Pittsburgh on Nov. 23. In that scenario, if Robert Morris were to stumble in its season finale against surging Sacred Heart University (6-4, 4-2 NEC) — a not altogether unlikely possibility given that the Pioneers have won three in a row, including a 41-7 walloping of Wagner this past weekend — Duquesne would be crowned NEC champion by virtue of its win over Central Connecticut." As far as overall wins, I'll say 27, one in the Atlantic 10 tourney and one in the first-round of the NCAA Tournament, though it probably won't include anything comparable to Bill Zopf's 78-foot heave against St. Joe's to end the first half in the first round of the '69 tournament. And it really doesn't matter how we do in the Atlantic 10 tournament. If we finish the regular season at 25-5, we'll land an at-large bid to the Big Dance. I think FAM, CLK and VBC may prove prophetic. I also remember and still have the iconic Sports Illustrated cover that shows Sidney Wicks blocking Artis Gilmore's shot a foot above the backboard. Wow. I was hoping that Jacksonville team, who I think also had the kid from Schenley (guard, I forget his name) and another 7 footer (Pembrook Burrows), would beat UCLA - who I hated. Oh my, I'm getting old, but those are all good memories and as Bran (GOT) said memories are what we have and live for. Amen. Pistol out. Pistol, Another agonizingly disappointing tournament performance by this snake-bitten program. Not even a mini run in the tourney. Terribly, terribly disappointing. C'mon, Dukes. It's time for a little second-half magic. That was ugly. I hope we play better in our final three regular season contests. Then again, I suppose we couldn't play worse. Getting worse. Williams man good god. Have any of his shots actually hit the rim tonight? This is getting worse... Williams having trouble with his eyes? Wearing one black and one white shoe. LOL Getting worse. Williams man good god. Have any of his shots actually hit the rim tonight? This is getting worse... The Dukes look dreadful so far. Their shot selection has been absolutely terrible. Hopefully, they'll settle down before they dig themselves too deep a hole. Oh, wait. That's when they play their best. Here's my plan. I'm hoping for essentially the same thing, VBC, but I want the Dukes to play in the Jacksonville regional since I already have tickets for the first and second rounds here. I'm also hoping to get to Brooklyn next month to watch the Dukes earn the long-awaited automatic bid. Great win. The comeback kids did it again.

I'm writing this partly on behalf of Duquesne's long-suffering fans, but in larger part because I think it may actually happen.
While we won't enjoy a true home court advantage this year — an unfortunate factor that could play to our advantage in making this team tougher — I think the 2019-20 Blue Ribbon College Basketball preview issue had it right in saying:
Despite the Dukes status as nomads, they've got a chance to make history. They've got a chance to put an end to the program's NCAA tournament drought.
The pieces are in place — Coach Dambrot has assembled a team with one of the longest wingspans in college basketball and enough talent to do something miraculous — and if this team can gel quickly we could be off to our best start since 1968-69 when the Dukes went 9-0 before losing to hot-handed Pete Maravich and LSU 94-91 in the All-College Tournament in Oklahoma City. Pistol Pete scored a blistering 53 points in that upset victory.
While I would be thrilled if we go 11-1 against OOC competition, there's a chance — a real chance — that we could jump out to a perfect 12-0 start. It could happen. I hope to attend a couple of those games. As a Floridian, I plan to make the four-hour trip to St. Petersburg to watch the Dukes in the St. Pete Shootout shortly before Christmas.
Moreover, I think the Dukes will be surprisingly competitive in the A-10 and could still be in the hunt for the regular season title when we travel to VCU on March 3. I predict a 13-5 finish in the conference.
The future is now.
This is our moment to return from exile and reestablish our program in the upper echelon of college basketball — the place we've all longed for these past forty or so years — and a place Duquesne's long-suffering fans so richly deserve.
C'mon guys, this could be our year!Men's Basketball » Which Era got you hooked as a Dukes fan? » 6/01/2019 2:13 am

The Dukes get a 12 seed and are placed in Columbus for the first round.
I meet up with stew for a pre-game meal of delicious sliders at White Castle.
We beat a P-5 school for our first tournament win since the Ides of March in 1969.
We beat another P-5 school to advance to the Sweet 16.
Does that work for you, stew?
