No doubt the Big 10, and Las Vegas are never gonna allow an A10 team get in the way of one of their teams. Nope.. Big money wins every time. It’s a sham. No doubt the Big 10, and Las Vegas are never gonna allow an A10 team get in the way of one of their teams. Nope.. Big money wins every time. It’s a sham. Now I know it depends on where the games are played and where the refs are from – but it seems to me that watching an A10 team play a nonconference team away from an A10 venue, you can expect the refs are going to call a lot of fouls against the A10 team. Such was the case with Richmond Spiders against Colorado in a Fla tournament, although they did play a tight defense against them. And that very well could have cost the Spiders the game (who lost 64-59). 11 fouls for Spiders (made 8), 25 for Colorado – who made 21. Interesting sidelight in the 2nd half, Foussini Drame drew the ire of Dambrot at one point, seemingly for not following his directions on a play. Was surprised when he physically yanked Foussini while he was still on the court, to get his attention. But all was well when the game ended, as Fosseni came over and gave the coach a reassuring hug. The chemistry seems to be OK.. geeez.... wish you hadn't done that. I'm bringing my wife to a game for first time in couple of years and am hoping you didn't jinx us... Dambrot having them press in the latter half really put pressure on Princeton. After the Fosenni Drame miss, i'm not sure why - with possession of the ball and 9 seconds left, Dambrot didn't call a timeout. He could have drawn up one last play... Not only is Pierce a rebounding machine with 15 against Hofstra last week, he scored 26 points at a 50% efficiency rate! The Dukes will need to guard effectively against the 3 point (since all of the Tigers are deadly shooters). I think the key, since they essentially use only 6 players -- is to press and tire them out if that is possible. We use 10-11 players, so that should not be a problem. A snapshot of a difficult schedule indeed. Dukes can't afford any injuries or academic screw-ups! I see Dukes coming in 4th... Anybody know how accurate College Sports Madness has been in past? The non-conference is tough enough... I’m disappointed to see how bad the Dukes played against Fordham for the second time – especially when so much was on the line. RJ along with others - flunked the test today. Certainly, I hope they can stay alive in the tournament; however, I just don’t see it happening against the ‘hungry competition’ we’ll surely be facing. In any event – Go Dukes! If the media covered this team and coach as thoroughly as they cover, say, the Pirates and the Steelers, you would not get these types of articles. Puff pieces. There's never any good follow-up questions or requests to further explain a blanket statement. If we are talking about KD as a coach it's ridiculous that some of the people on this board do not want to hear about last year. I'm thinking these same people do not want critical race theory taught to our children either Okay. Start throwing things at me. Yes, was at the game - season ticket holder. I have blamed Dambrot for my share of losses...not blaming him for today. When they make "3" threes in a row because the defensive guy stays back 3 feet, it's on the player. When you can't catch Rozier or Brewers passes because you aren't paying attention (I remember this happening to TJ often), it's on the players. When you have so many turnovers on fast breaks, it's on the players. When you watch how excited the other players are and with such emotion it's the players. When I see ours today and there is emotion missing, that is on the players. The team sucked today and I am not putting it on Dambrot. Sorry but I have to ‘tell it like it is.’ We were out coached again. Sorry but I have to ‘tell it like it is.’ We were out coached again. While love the players Dambrot recruits – he’s got a lot of depth – he’s getting out-coached against good coaches like Mark Schmidt: VCU Shriver was hot with the 3s' tonight. VCU defended better in the 2nd half and stepped up the speed of their offense. Love the atmosphere in Dayton, but not enough to overcome VCU. I hope the DUQs were watching.... Dukes win even bigger now. You got talent all over the board with this team. Again, the challenge for Dambrot is going to be keeping everyone on the same page -- the one needed to beat St. Louis, Dayton and yes -- still St. Bonaventure. There are some on the team who yet find it hard to defend because they're offensively oriented. There are others on the team that end up in certain instances - not playing because of the match-up situations. Dambrot has to instill the winning instinct in them - so they don't go off and pout and enter the transfer portal. Tough challenge ahead... Kudos to the Duke’s 3 pointer offensive blitz in the first half. Very awesome indeed, however with the lack of defending the Hawk’s threes, they too were hot – but not as hot as the Dukes, they remained in striking distance. While I love the ‘run & gun’ fast play – you can’t keep that up indefinitely because at some point you go cold and the sloppiness in passing sets in, and the puzzling turnovers allow the opponent to get back in the game. Chris Mooney, Burton, and Roche postgame: Looking at frame 2:27, 2:28, 2:29 and 2:30 mark see Reese coming in on the layup he made, and Roche sliding over. Reese's foot is already past Roche when Roche's shoulder blocks Reese. He had to be moving in. Believe the ball had been released. Ref's call questionable. This game was called one way, simple as that. While Duquesne does foul more than their opposition - Here it ended with 30 fouls by Duq 9 by Richmond. I watched the game and my eyes don't deceive. There were so may that should not of been called and many where the refs did not call them against Richmond. No doubt the league needs to review the film for the foul calls going mostly going one direction-- and the fouls not called against Richmond. Below are a few of the VCU Rams comments: It may not seem like much to us older fans....but, it represents something that is students-to-students! I like the initiative shown here. It is only a start, but it represents the importance of student athlete to student relationships. Kudos to the person responsible for this thought. Quite right!! Finally someone put their thinking cap on! Joe Reece, Kareem Rozier and David Dixon (these guys are so sincere!) and others should be commissioned to do this periodically and I think it'll open an avenue of dialogue between the student athletes and the students.... ie it becomes a more personal relationship for the students, and fans in general. Looking forward to more of this... What better advewrtising could you have? With all due respect to Dayton's defense, Dukes ball handling and offensive schemes were not good and the outside shooting cold If the DUQ wants to build fan followers and attendance -- why not put a microphone on the press people questioning the players and coaches? Or at least have a DUQ student (from the journalism dept) pass a single microphone to the person asking the question? I don’t think the AD gets it??!! I’ll donate 30 microphones if it really means sellouts every night. Building interest incrementally in the program is important. Why would you not have a microphone in the press gallery? What the players and coach says on the video is more pertinent if you hear the question. Obviously good basketball is a paramount factor in boosting attendance. However team visibility has to be just as important – because if you ‘broadcast the good news’ on campus then more students may take notice and venture into the COOP on gameday. In reality the A10 standings/stats etc. mean little at this point, however by virtue of a winning non-conference record (9-3) dang we are in 2nd place at this juncture!! Post it around campus conspicuously, even if many think it’s a mirage. Along with it, post the short succinct headlines on the website covering previous games. At least get people in the know. Still appalled at the lack of student attendance and enthusiasm at the games…I think if you want to build interest, loyalty etc in the program down the road, the games need to appeal to the students. Here’s a single suggestion that could help to build student fan interest?

I thought the stiff arm (2nd half) to David Dixon was the coup de grace. Then toward the end when Dukes were making a comeback, Jimmy Clark drives in -- makes the basket in what should have been a foul (hit him on the head) shot against Nebraska! No call until Clark made a ‘low key protest.’… and got hit with a technical and removed from the game. There’s no way they were going to let margin get under 8.
The Dukes have a lot of heart and are going to be tough in the A10…Men's Basketball » Game Thread - University of Nebraska Cornhuskers » 11/22/2023 10:44 pm

The Dukes generally commit more fouls than their opponents (even by A10 standards) and they’ll be playing at Nebraska Wednesday. Nebraska is not too great at foul shooting, while the Dukes are only 69% from the line.
However, here’s hoping the refs don’t assume the Cornhuskers are ‘facing another mugger from the A10,’ when the Dukes play their usual tight defense.
Foul calls and the ability to make foul shots, have a lot to do with the outcome… Men's Basketball » Game Thread - Rider University Broncs » 11/18/2023 11:40 am

However, they are all definitely good athletes. It won't be easy. I watched some of their games -- at Rutgers and at Hofstra - and they are like a machine. Grinding it in, kicking it outside and then shooting from the perimeter, sometimes even further.

On the other hand, you have to admit Fordham is a Cinderella team to say the least – and exciting to watch and hungry to win. I’ll be rooting for them to go all the way, once Dukes are eliminated!Men's Basketball » Dambrot’s Bold Turnaround at Duquesne Deserves More Attention » 2/17/2023 10:44 am

I am enjoying this season tremendously AND I am able to form a nuanced opinion about the coach. I think it is interesting to discuss how KD built the last 2 teams and to compare and contrast them. Remember, KD did the same thing last season with completely different results. He got rid of bad characters and rebuilt the team with good character guys. When those guys went 6-24 they became bad character guys and uncoachable. Now they are good character guys and coachable somewhere else. It's all just lip service to feed the the narrative. What really happened is that KD did a poor job last year of recruiting/building a team. After TDM left he had no experience in the backcourt other than Acuff (minimal) and he barely played him. He did not recruit enough bigs, especially when you consider his offensive strategy, and when injuries happened he was outmanned. You would think that a coach with all the wisdom of his years coaching would not be caught off guard by these developments but he was. He also did not adjust his offensive strategy to play to the strengths of his roster..And finally, he also chose to use a Division 2 grad assistant over a raw 7 footer who would very likely have gotten better and better as the season progressed with enough playing time. All of those factors led directly to the poor performance and none of them had anything to do with the likely good, talented players on the team being coachable or not or having good character or

Ok, the whole world knows that Duq can’t hit the 3s’ if you have someone defending them hard. Fordham played a very physical game. Duq played a very physical game and my hat’s off to all of them. Crimany! The Dukes were gassed.
He's got 12 players he can get in and out of the game. Fordham doesn’t have that luxury. And no doubt the Dukes were cold shooting again. But put fresh bodies in there—use your timeouts. I put this game on our coaching.Men's Basketball » Game Thread - Fordham University Rams (H) » 1/21/2023 5:13 pm

It is true the Dukes are becoming foreseeable to the good coaches. And then they rattle them early by guarding the 3. He better figure out how to less predictable.

While we got away with it against a St. Joe – not likely to happen against better teams. This team runs in spurts -- seemingly ooze with confidence, play with excellent ball movement – then when the ‘3s’ go cold, they suddenly make bad passes and tons of turnovers. Great, we held on tonight. But we’ll need to control the emotions against better teams and concentrate a little more on the basics once a lead is established.Men's Basketball » Game Thread - University of Richmond Spiders » 1/07/2023 11:19 pm

Then to add insult to injury, the winning play involved #3 Tyler Burton going to his right and his feet slipping before he gets the pass off to Roche - who then makes the 3 point basket to win the game. SOMEONE IN THE LEAGUE NEEDS TO LOOK AT THAT PLAY BECAUSE THAT WAS A TRAVEL.Men's Basketball » VCU RAM NATION FORUM » 1/03/2023 11:10 pm

This game will decide if we have an outside chance at an at-large.
We will probably be a 2+ point underdog to Duquesne - words I never thought I would type.
I'm pretty sure we're gonna crush our opponent. The only question is by how many!!
Let's go, VCU!!
This will be a great test. I don't think we can afford another slow start here on the road in conference play.
I hate them. All of them. I hate them all.
Go Rams Go!

This game is gonna be tough. If the Rams can get out of Pittsburgh with a win it would be huge in my opinion. VCU has not played at Duquesne since 2019 before Cooper Fieldhouse was renovated.
