There were media reports that we did try to schedule road games against power conference teams this year but they wouldn't play us. Only Pitt was mentioned by name. This is correct. It's not for lack of trying that no impressive teams were on the schedule OOC. No one was returning Harper's calls Understand. Other than blue blood schools, who want more conference foes in to inflate their self worth, I think a lot of CBB fans would like to see more Cinderellas in the dance. We willingly choose not play any power 5 teams this year. Hurts because now it’s always going to be “you played no one” no matter the record outcome I don't think it hurts us this year, because honestly, we're not really of at large caliber yet. Maybe the team will shock me by sweeping Dayton, Bona, and VCU on the road to actually get in the mix, but I'm not holding my breath for that. P5 games on the road would likely have been losses this year. I think we scheduled very smartly for what we have. Next year is a different story. That's the year we've been building towards, and we have to schedule accordingly. If we can't snag a couple of wins against mid level P5s, or good mid majors, then we don't deserve to be considered for a bid. Can we get into a preseason tourney that has some actual good teams next year? To me, this is a must, as it gives you a shot at good teams on a neutral court. I agree with this. I think playing more power 5 teams though in the past since Dambrot has came would’ve helped with recruiting. If we had power 5s and still lost it would look better than losing to Cornell or some other cake games we gave up. If I’m wrong tel me but I always thought that since Dambrot got here. Just more power 5s on schedule it will help. Other than blue blood schools, who want more conference foes in to inflate their self worth, I think a lot of CBB fans would like to see more Cinderellas in the dance. We willingly choose not play any power 5 teams this year. Hurts because now it’s always going to be “you played no one” no matter the record outcome Ritter's - I realize this is a free country - Individuals are entitled to their opinions - BUT Consistent 2 guard? Williams wasn't it either. KD a dinosaur? Bull. It is very, very hard to bring into any program Bigs that can move and live in the paint. So most don't try. Every D-1 coach would want to be this kind of dinosaur. This team can beat anyone, if they play their game, in the paint. Don't like it, don't watch. The real problem is when they get away from it. Not many D-1 teams can handle a team that comes in there place and takes over their paint. Ron just never could find this kind of talent, but today's Dukes are there but also are their worst enemy when they get away from dominating the game inside. Season isn't over, and this team can have a heck of a run if they just stick to who they [color=#201f1e]We had that guard in Williams and KD ran him off. If that source is reliable then why wouldn’t they tell all the boat load of schools to recruit him then? I find that very hard to believe he was a cancer and still actively tweets and roots for us still. Just my 2 cents I know you guys won’t agree but I just don’t buy that one. Dare I say Eric Williams could have filled a huge hole, the go to guy. Im sure this will draw comments. And to add, Frankie Hughes could have added more depth n strength I've been thinking about that myself. Williams could definitely play the go-to guy role but the Dukes weren't always at their best that way. They were just 4-5 when he scored 20 or more points in a game last year, including 0-3 in the last three games of the season with Williams averaging 28 PPG. He could take over a game but he often disappeared in games as well. In his two-year Duquesne career, the Dukes were 8-8 when he led them in scoring in a game. A lot of folks on this board thought the Dukes played better as a team in Williams' absence. But when you see them chucking up long 3s and making dangerously long passes in the halfcourt offense because their spacing's so bad, you wonder what's gone wrong with that team concept. That pretty much describes the last game and a half. Frankie was a terribly streaky shooter, who nonetheless played good D and could have added some depth to this team. But maybe we're better off for the long term with Austin and Norman playing more minutes this year, I dunno. His scoring wasn’t his best attribute. He averaged 9 rpg over two years. He was a big loss but I understand if you feel it’s not big of a loss. They were 5-2 at this point last year so we will see how it plays out from here on out. Maceo has disappointed in my eyes for being such a heralded recruit. Just My opinion. Don’t bash me Lol Coach Still plays TDM over him. Yes I’d be mad as a Dad. Another big insight I think we should all have for poor attendance to our games at our (still away territory) but home games is that with this new arena and the price of it. Students will obviously be conflicted by this thinking their tuition went towards men’s basketball. Yes we are on the rise but our past hasn’t brought much consistent fans so maybe I’m reaching but that maybe could be why the students most of the time seem non interested in hoops here. Again just speculation cause who wouldn’t want to see a 12-2 team? Who is getting national attention... idk just seems like that could be why Because school choice has a hundred other factors in it besides just what is happening on the basketball court. It takes a lot of thought - even more so maybe than picking a school to begin with in the first place. Speculating on those factors should ultimately be outside of sports fandom. No one goes into college thinking they're going to transfer, even student-athletes in the money sports. I know no kid goes into college thinking like that. All I was saying is that it is 2020 so looking at options for your last year isn’t that big of a speculation. It’s not a knock on them. Turnover every year in basketball. No bad blood with players and coaches most times. Frankie Hughes, Marcus Weathers, Mike Hughes, TDM are all grad transfers after this season. I’m not a jinx guy or toxic to the board but with how today’s game is don’t be surprised if they try to explore their options. Again I’m not saying this as a knock but it is 2020 now. NCAA is stepping stones with levels for each player trying to make money. All I will say. CLK is also true. If you think players don’t know about this page your fooled. There’s a fan page for most teams in the country. Players obviously don’t care but they know. Agree with this. They're starters on what should be a very good team next year. I could see it if we looked as though we'd be an also ran, or if they were getting limited minutes. No guarantee to start, or even play if you transfer to the wrong spot. These guys are nice players, but it's not like winning P5 programs will be beating down the door for any of them to be a starter. Their best shot would be going to an also ran. Why do that? Tarin went to a mediocre UConn team, and made little impact. Who wants that? Turnover every year in basketball. No bad blood with players and coaches most times. Frankie Hughes, Marcus Weathers, Mike Hughes, TDM are all grad transfers after this season. I’m not a jinx guy or toxic to the board but with how today’s game is don’t be surprised if they try to explore their options. Again I’m not saying this as a knock but it is 2020 now. There’s a fan page for most teams in the country. Players obviously don’t care but they know. Y’all bringing Eric Up lol. You’re 9-0 and have the 344th ranked schedule. I hope Marcus would be an ok player too being a senior.. you guys are bitter about that kid leaving then you delete my comment. Stop bringing him up This board should booming with new posters, but its the same people as usual. We're in a good place. The long time fans are happy because we're better than we've been in a long time. It's true we don't know how good we are yet. Let's enjoy it while it lasts though, whether that be December, January, or March. The attention we are beginning to get nationally will bring in new fans (and more importantly recruits) if it continues. The last two times Duquesne basketball has gotten any national media attention was because of a blizzard and a shooting involving the team. It's nice to have the team get some attention for the way they are playing instead. You’re telling yourself that you’re in a good place. I said the same thing a few weeks ago about the schedule and you guys tried to rip me. 7-0 against (profanity) competition. It’s the truth like he said, I’m not knocking the program in the slightest either. We have 10 active users on here id say. He is absolutely right I’m not being a Ritter. I’m a fan like you guys. I give credit when due and we all know we haven’t played anyone yet so why are we making it seem like I’m knocking our team? I just want success on the later end of the season rather than non conference cause honestly we did good the last two seasons under coach D in non con due to teams not being very good just like this year. I just want a real challenge Iike WVU. Playing those games gives a better out look than mid major teams who are much more father behind than us. You guys throwing Eric in just shows you guys are bitter people. No one has compared to him stat wise yet in his 6 games and he’s on the 11 ranked team in the country and has a year to sit and get more mature and better. Him playing against no competition this year will benefit him more than the players who are playing right now. Stop bringing him up you guys should know 1 person don’t make a whole team so why bring him up? SALTY 5-0 against no one. No one. This fan board just wants wins Against teams that only help our kenpom rankings for the month for November and December. when we hit conference then let’s celebrate and really see if we’re a NIT or NCAA team And be the top a10 team in March rather than November 22nd cause I know this isn’t our best basketball Wow kudos to coach Dambrot, staff,AD& Prez. WHY according to Pomeroy Duquesne ahead of UCLA in power rankings. I never thought I would see the day. Next step NIT bid or God forbid NCAA bid🙏 You realize it’s November right? Let’s celebrate rankings in March. This is our problems as fans. Not how we start it’s how you finish especially with this light schedule I think it's pointless to keep kicking Eric Williams. He's gone. duq81, I can not seak for PR, but I did not interpret the comment as a kick on Williams. I thought it was a valid comparison and comment about this years team vs last year's team. Many people thought we would be worse because of the loss of Williams rebounding. I said before the season even began that I thought we would be better defensively even with the loss of EW because we would be stronger inside with Steele, and because I thought Maceo was that good an overall player. My prediction is 27 wins I'm in, I agree, this is do-able, or quite frankly, just a little-bit better. Both great coaching and great players, and Williams weak defense is gone. (More swing points are made on defense to determine a game than is ever appreciated, and Williams played weak defense, if at all. His weak defense? Why throw shots a young man when collectively they played minimal defense. He didn’t make them go 19-13 by himself.. we got some love in an A10 write up....Grant KellyA-10 Champ: VCUThe only Atlantic 10 team nationally ranked in the preseason top 25, it’s tough to pick against the Rams this year. With a talented and deep roster, I think VCU edges Dayton by a game to win the A-10 regular season title. Towson, Duquesne winning the A10 Championship? If the team matured in the off season, they can win, they should win. Year 3 now, lets go, stop talking, start winning. Finally someone says it. Terrible Non Con should only lose 1 game but let’s see how things pan out I watched that video when he signed & was impressed with his handle. That has not changed after seeing it again. You my friend sound desperate. We all k So you know he left cause he’s not a team player? Me and including you guys have no idea what happened or why he left. What if he left for the sole purpose of winning and being in tournament? Saying he was a bad college player is mind boggling. He got benched but then again we don’t know why at the end of the day. It obviously wasn’t about not being a team player when he came in and had 22 and 13 of the bench... leave the opinions for somewhere else the kid is gone and everyone reading I hope will understand. I didn't say he was "a bad college player..." I said "he's not such a great college player." He's pretty good, but is he a great college player? He didn't even make all-conference. He didn't play like a college player should play. He played the NBA style game. That doesn't work at a lot of college programs. He's probably going to get a crack at being an NBA player. Don't misquote me. The word "bad" wasn't used anywhere. Most college teams have to play as a team or they aren't going to be successful. Last time I watched an NBA game, that's not how it worked. I saw one on one nearly every time down. Among other things, I would imagine this an opinion board. You have yours. I have mine. Except, yours was inaccurate when you referred to mine. Yes, I agree with you that it would be mind-boggling if someone referred to Eric Williams as "a bad college player." Who would say that?" Lol you have I wonder if there were cliques on the team. Was his dissatisfaction at all related to the Craig Randall issue? Did he think Mike Lewis got a raw deal? All speculation of course. Whatever happened, it's likely he was looking to leave from the moment KD sat him. Duq81 - Intriguing questions. Great observation on looking to leave. In hindsight, yes, Eric Williams pretty much tuned out the scene when he was asked to take a seat on the pine and think about (read: soul search) the team. He'll make a good NBA prospect. He's not such a great college player, though. You have to play a team game at the college level, at least for most schools. If you don't it causes too much discord. That hurt Duquesne last year. Sorry to see Williams go, but glad to see him go. So you know he left cause he’s not a team player? Me and including you guys have no idea what happened or why he left. What’s a consistent 2 guard to you?
So you are saying we don't need a consistent 2 guard? Anyone agree with that?
Maybe I've watched too many cop television shows where the police say "Don't believe in coincidence" or things like that - was it "just coincidence" that your work load lightened up and you had more time to post - right AFTER the team hit the three game losing streak as opposed to the three months when things were going well??
The Forum listed you with 387 posts when I checked - How many would you say have taken a "positive tone" and how many have taken a "negative tone"???
For all of us with "rose colored glasses" - maybe the Pirates have some sort of Fan Forum and you can go there and share your opinions.
Wouldn't mind a more consistent two guard - Also would like more depth up front - just have to hope the coaching staff can fill what THEY determine to be their needs - Abe Lemons once said "If there are Five 18 year olds running around with MY pay check in their mouth - Better get the RIGHT 5 18 year olds!" From a very reliable inside source and long before it was known that Williams was transferring, the word on the kid was that he was, and I quote, a "cancer on the team". I quote because these are very strong words I myself would not publicly use to describe a young man for an area of life so unimportant as a his involvement on a basketball team. So maybe he maybe he ran himself off the team. Again, the source is very reliable. For myself, I wish he was still here. I don't know what happened that soured his attitude during the 2 years he was here.Men's Basketball » Game Thread - University of Massachusetts Minutemen » 1/28/2020 12:16 pm

M Hughes, TDM and Weathers followed KD to Duq....don't see them leaving.

A-10 Sleeper: DuquesnePicked to finish 8th in the preseason poll, Duquesne is arguably the most undervalued A-10 team. Showing steady improvement under head coach Keith Dambrot, the Dukes seem primed to continue their climb. While making a run at the top four will be unlikely this year, I could easily see Duquesne finishing 5th or 6th in the A-10.
My A-10 Hot Take: Ibi Watson will compete for A-10 Player of the YearA redshirt junior transfer from Michigan, Ibi Watson might be the best player that no one outside of Dayton is talking about. A 6’5″ guard, Watson can do a little bit of everything; including shooting the three ball very well. I would not be surprised to see Watson make an A-10 All-Conference Team at the end of the season.
Thanks for the info; just one wird of caution on VCU; as KD mentioned in the Weiss interview; they are not the same team without Marcus Evans their superb PG. Evans unfortunately has a long history of rather serious injuries; and is not a good bet to play an entire season. Without Evans; Dayton or Davidson could easily wind up the Champion. We saw what happened to them in the A-10 Tourney when they lost Evans. They weren’t close to the same team and lost.
This is our problem as fans. Go one step at a time, like previous mentioned. We are limited on bigs and we do not know how it will play out. Let’s start with Princeton and go 1 I mean ONE day at a time. You guys don’t understand this team is new just like the last two teams we had. There’s not much carry over yet for us to predict things like that.Men's Basketball » Dambrot believes Dukes are ready to win » 10/15/2019 3:12 am

This time, two things really struck me about his observable skill set.
First, I can't think of another Duke or recruit that went elsewhere whose highlight video was so full of hard, controlled drives with traffic finishes through contact & soft-touch floaters. I understand that these videos are all cut to show the player to greatest advantage but, so many Division I players get scholarships & have to grow into this particular set of skills. Last year's team could have really used a player that can get downhill, finish, & make plays for others. He is going to force opposing defenses into some hard choices.
Is there a former Duke of recent vintage that I am forgetting about that had as strong a handle & to the rack game at Ashton's size?
Secondly, he is going to have a hard time getting-off spot-up jumpers in the A-10 with that long, slow, & low release. That isn't surprising. Many kids have to change their mechanics early in college to account for the defensive length & superior close-outs that are standard at this level. I think he'll get that fixed and at 6'5" shoot over a hefty percentage of A-10 wing defenders without being bothered. It is noteworthy because today's players start working on spot-up shooting from distance before they ever hit high school & are usually pretty solid with it by the time they are a sought after Div I prospect.
What is more interesting to me is that Ashton seems much further along with his mechanics for pull-up & catch /shoot opportunities off player movement. Most freshmen have the exact opposite strengths & weaknesses.
Or, maybe this is just an effective highlight video that hides glaring weaknesses in favor of pushing the player's only viable skills & I am desperate for every new signee to be a program changing under the radar recruit. Time will tell.Men's Basketball » 2019 - 2020 OOC Schedule » 8/06/2019 6:15 pm

I did not watch the enough Dukes games to confirm or deny that he took rebounds from teammates. What I did see was a player who was less concerned with the team than himself. That is an opinion....difficult to prove with statistics But I will back up my statement that the team will be a better rebounding team without him. I will wager you dinner at Taco Bell if I am right vs dinner at Chili's if I am wrong. The stat we will use is the net rebounding differential for the year. That...is not an opinion ...simply a "yes" box "no" box type of evaluation. All explanation as to why will just be noise.
I hope Williams finds himself out in Oregon....he obviously has talent.
