The Riverhounds to the best of my knowledge do not want to rent to football teams any longer.   Central Catholic used to play 2 - 6A “home” games there for about 5 years in a row.  They do not any longer. And have not since the Riverhounds became good.

The reason this is the heart of the last 25% of their season and playoffs  and they don’t want football lines painted on the turf.   And taken off and painted on and scrubbed off.

That’s what I was told.

I went to The Highmark Stadium site and it states  “line painting and field goal installation are subject to additional fees”.

I’d suggest at least one high profile game there rather than all and having to wax on wax off for a higher number of games.   Kinda the way we’d hopefully use PPG in basketball.  YSU may travel here.

After following Duquesne for a long time, I’ve had a number of what seemed to be wishes for the program realized but the biggest of all still sitting there unrealized and weighing the program down like an anchor.

First, the positives:
- The better conference and at least limited scholarships.  They have a real chance each year to win the NEC and make the Playoffs and have even beat teams like Towson and played William and Mary to the wire.
- A schedule that is more that competitive.  WVU, FSU and now Pitt on the horizon is an amazing upgrade.   We outplayed Hawaii last year and should have taken our second D 1 win.

Now, the EASILY CORRECTED UNFULFILLED WISH.
- Play a big game or two at the Highmark.   Rooney is the SMALLEST stadium in all D 1/1AA and is a real turn off for recruiting players and a potential fan base.   Highmark is amazing and will not look cavernous if not sold out.

And oh yeah... Duquesne has a music school.   Bring back the band.

Maybe the Dukes should schedule CMU in 2025 to recreate the old city trophy.  We scheduled down and up the past few years.

Judging a 500 win career by his worst season shows your short sightedness and exactly what I mean.  Name the last 5 Duquesne coaches with multiple 20 win seasons.

How many in between?

I'll save you the trouble... Dambrot is only the 4th ever.

Steel Bowl-  You have more patience than I for those who try to blame a half century of losing on one of the two only coaches who have gotten solid improvements in the program.

They show the same lack of background basketball knowledge and intelligence that got the other coach fired when he actually got within 5 points of going to the NCAA's.

There is no reasonable argument that will change their preconceptions even after the biggest turnaround season in Duquesne history.  I've given up responding to them since their minds are closed and they don't see the harm they do to the program when these kids and their families read their hateful self rigorous diatribes.

Everyone has a right to an opinion but I'm really tired of even coming to this board anymore and hearing the same thing over and over and over again.  They are poison.

By the way, there is no curse... Just 35 years of poor university support followed by 10 years of people like them who think it's so easy and lack the patience to stick with an Everhart or a Dambrot and support the program.  It's easier to this stones and think they are smarter than they really are.

GO DUKES!!

I'll save you the trouble.  Dambrot is only the 4th ever to post more than one 20 win season at Duquesne... Ever.

Knowing that DU will half-ass a new coaching search, I have no problem with keeping the coach around.
I dont think he is fighting for anything I doubt any suit at DU is considering pushing KD out, not one. They have no clue, or desire to work, research, interview or have to pay more. 20 wins is easy to justify keeping. He will be the coach as long as he wants. Harper is so dull and useless foreseeable future is the best he came up with....he has no clue, except when that pay check is deposited into his account.

Maybe he is a lot smarter than people on this board give him credit for. Maybe he realized the the same old small thinking of firing the coach every 4 years only to start from scratch is what helped get us in this hole to begin with. Look back at the bad decisions that were made before he got here. Some of you guys think we are Duke not Duquesne. We all want to get to the top of the League and get to the NCAA but to do that in today's world requires dedication, consistency, luck and money. Want to win donate to the NIL fund. Tell business you may deal with about the NIL fund. Batching on this Board may help relieve tension but does little about helping this program. I am not directing my comments at you Towson but is meant as a challenge to all on this board.

First time blogger...Long time follower/supporter/alum of Duquesne & DU Basketball here. I am trying to restrain myself with this comment made above (TowsonKid???), but there are some things I will give some prospective on.
1.) I understand there are a lot of keyboard warriors out there that have mixed emotions and feelings about the Past/Current state of Duquesne Basketball. With that being said... a lot of the negative comments are from a "Fans" with little to no (zero) knowledge or understanding of the operations of college athletics, coaching at a Division 1 level, or let alone if the ball used on the court is pumped or stuffed.
2.

We tried going to an easier conference in 1993- the MCC, now the Horizon League (Bobby Mo’s home now).
Playing in a lower caliber league will not increase the talent we can bring to the Bluff.  The A10 is a good fit for our CURRENT level of commitment from the University.  You CAN NOT blame the current level of commitment for all the past years of neglect and inept leadership.
I don’t want two Horizon League level teams in Pittsburgh.  I want to see the highest level competition that we have a good chance to play against and we proved we can finish in the upper half of the A10.

I don’t want to back into the dance like a Fairleigh Dickinson.

Beating VCU this year meant a lot more than beating Merrimack.

For those of you questioning why Dayton, Saint Louis or Fordham didn't get in the NIT, take a look at the official NCAA Net Rankings.
The last 3 at large teams invited to the NIT were Santa Clara #84, Seton Hall #77 and Villanova #75.  The only A10 team that might have had a shot at the NIT was Dayton at #78.  Not sure if they were going to get the final bid or not; their weird statement muddied the waters.
Here are the NET Rankings for the A10 teams as of today:
VCU #53
Dayton #78
Saint Louis #99
Duquesne #130
Fordham #134
George Mason #139
Davidson #145
Richmond #159
Saint Bonaventure #199
Saint Joseph's #200
UMass #205
GW #211
La Salle #223
URI #265
Loyola Chicago #269

I think part of the issue is the new NET Rankings.   Looking at the old RPI, all A 10 teams are ranked considerably higher.  For example, VCU is #19 and Duquesne is #115 and had be much higher.

Yes!  Loyola used it as a springboard to a Final 4 the next year.
Playing in Daytona is an attractive draw.

Odds Shark had the Dukes favored by 5.

If we go to the CBI and loose, then KD is really on shaky ground to get another year. I would be surprised that he would be for that.

Yeah.. I’d absolutely fire a guy who authored the highest turnaround in  program history after he wins 20 and one of the only winning conference records in the last 50 years.

Latest NET and other rankings have VCU ahead of teams like Pitt there and in KenPom, the old RPI  (26) and Massey.
NET. Has them up to 61.   If they lose a close Conference final they may still have a shot and the A10 may still get 2 in.  Call me over optimistic but if Pitt still thinks they have a chance at #67, why not?

The players obviously have no interest in continuing the season or they would have shown some toughness in the last two games!  It would just be throwing good money after bad.  Please let the suffering end!

Take the negativity and find some other team to follow and trash.
Yes, I’m disappointed but stop throwing rocks at an opportunity to play more and grow.  It helped us in the past.

It’s the attitude that destroys a program.

Honestly... we’ve had two good, winning coaches in 50 years and you people have the stupidity to want to drive this one away after being the only one of two to win 20 here at Duquesne.   Do you think KD got these kids from the chemistry classes?  He recruited these kids and they are doing far better than any other team in the last half century.

No fan base?  Were you there last Sunday?

Get a job coaching somewhere if you know so much.

Coaches were not lining up to work here when we fire RE.   Get rid of KD and we get another Ferry and not 20 win season or a team playing for a double bye on the last day of the season.

KD knows what he’s doing.  He worked the transfer portal well and when the team is buying in, they have a chance.  Duquesne ain’t Duke or even Pitt.  Takes more to try to win here and KD is coming closer than any since the 1970’s.

I am not questioning or attacking your opinion. I am curious to know how many seasons you think KD should continue to coach at DU without an NIT or NCAA bid before being fired. Is it 7, 8, 9....?

I saw good reason to part ways at the end of last season. I now think KD has earned his 7th year but no more without at least an NIT bid.

Aside from last year he’s usually delivered a winning season combined with a top half finish in conference.  There are now 364 D1 teams nation wide.  To get a bid from this conference you need to be in the top 50 NET rating.  Even the NIT is stocked with conference winners who didn’t win their tournament now making it harder there too.

You are asking Dambrot to finish in the top 20% along with all the traditional powerhouses or lose his job after winning 20 for only the 3rd time in a generation?

Stay the course.  He’ll get us there.

Yeah... Dukes suck... 20 wins and 10 in conference it terrible progress after last season.

Fire Dambrot just like we fired the last coach who won 20 at Duquesne.

There are so many coaches out there dying to take this job.

Maybe we can talk Ferry into coming back!

Honestly... quit the whining... suck it up and stop thinking we have to win them all in a competitive conference.  Remember we were picked last but kicked some ass including VCU.

How many of you would turn down 6th place and playing for a double bye in our last game at the start of this season?

Win a couple in the tournament and all you whiners will be fans again.
