It looks like Dambrot and staff will be back next year. If anyone heard the pregame interview Dambrot acknowledged that this team does not have the talent to compete and that he will be rebuilding again for next year. He said that his and staff are in a full rebuilding mode.

I repeat a comment I made earlier - 'how in the world did he misjudge the talent on this team so badly - calling it the best he had since his coming to Duquesne?'  He's right.  He needs to be in a full rebuilding mode.  But I don't have any confidence he can produce any better than last year - unless he shakes up his staff.  How do you compete in the A10 without a decent #5?   Last season, there was a focus on getting knock down 3-point shooters and point guards, and we still need them!  Ayers is streaky and Easley's shot is too flat.  We don't have a true power forward, and no one seems capable of catching the ball in traffic near the hoop.  Even Williams has trouble.  How many times has he turned the ball over on passes this year?  The offensive sets are poor - stand still, pass the ball, the first guy open - put up a 30-foot shot.  One of the better offensive plays tonight was Bekelja's no look behind the back pass to Easly for a wide-open look.  The defense was better tonight.  But I still see players who will not take a charge.

KD gets paid a substantial sum for coaching this team and I'm sure his recruiting budget was increased when he took over.  He has no excuse, particularly if he doesn't address the talent for next year.  If he is having trouble evaluating players, get some new blood in there to help.

Sorry for venting... 1-13 does that to me.

I think this happened for two reasons:

1. KD had never utilized the transfer portal to this extent before. We had a couple transfers come in over the years that were solid contributors. The resumes of the transfers we had coming in were great on paper. Guys

Refs should be ashamed. Didn't call anything and let the game get completely out of hand, then started making calls at the end of the game that influenced the outcome.

I think the Dukes were robbed. Still don't understand the amount of time Larson gets while not being a scoring threat, but that is a Dambrot problem and not a Larson problem. He was hustling to help the team win.

A win is a win. Let a bad team hang around with us too long. Good teams crush bad teams. As they say "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard". American U was definitely outworking us at different points in the game. Let them shoot a lot of wide open 3s which helped them stay in it.

I like the rotation of players, not sure why Okani isn't driving and cramming it more often. Good to see the players that will win us games take up all of the playing time. Hope to see more of jackie johnson, just needs some development for his style of play.

We excel at fast paced offense. Slow-pace half court offense is not our thing. Coach oughta tell the players that as long as they stay in control, keep a fast tempo.

Levon and Fam you guys are right.  This is pathetic; no D in the first half, horrible shooting and no offensive movement - the Godfather said it is like watching a Ferry offense - inexcusable.  "Best team" KD, yeah right.  I said 2 years ago shake up this coaching staff and get a recruiter.  We still throw out too many non-A--10 level players.  And hey Keith no on CARES ABOUT LABRON!!!!  Can't shoot, can't stop anyone, still miss layups...........just pathetic.  I'm done with this team.  Mark my words 1-5 by the end of the tournament.  Harper you are accountable as well.  You have given Dambrot everything and what have we gotten.  What happened to recruiting from a higher shelf from the commitment the school made to the program..........Our best team was Hughes, Weathers and SC and you couldn't manage any of them and they all left.....like the kid I saw last night for San Diego State - throwing it down by the way.  We stink, period.

Although I agree with the frustration, everyone needs to remember that Duquesne has been a stinker for a long time. You have to convince kids that when they come we will make a March Madness run (because thats all any good player cares about). Hard to do be convincing when you haven't made the tournament in however many years. Also, tired of hearing about the "best players" leaving because of KD. See below:

Michael Hughes - Got a degree and left to play pro
Weathers - Wanted to play with his brother (unique opportunity, can't blame him)
Sincere Carry - Was getting in trouble off the court and left for Kent State to be with his girlfriend
Maceo Austin - Stepped away for personal reasons
Eric Williams - Wanted to go to the NBA, followed the TJ path to do so. We will see if it pays off.

I do agree with KD that this is the most individually talented teams he has had. Obviously that means nothing if you can't connect the dots. Do not understand why a true "5" was not top priority to add - hard to co

It amazes me that after 40 years + of lackluster play, people on this board think it should only take 1/8th of that time to turn the entire program around. We are trending upwards in terms of talent, we just got a new stadium...investments are being made in the program. As more money is put into the program, higher expectations will be set for the performance of players & coach, gameday operations, etc.

When you flew by the seat of your pants for 40+ years a lot of bad habits are created. Takes time to generate change. Be patient, enjoy where the program is headed and understand that if you wanted to root for a perennial powerhouse you wouldn't be rooting for Duquesne in the first place.

With that being said, if we are going to continue to play Bekelja for his defense (which i think is good) coach needs to give him some sort of offensive confidence. At least get him shooting open 3s. No need for Larson to be on the court ever. Should be treated like a walk-on. Practice only.

I think it must be considered that just because Jett did not fit Duquesne or Dambrot’s play style does not mean he did anything wrong.

On another team he may be able to be a pure shooter without the worry of being a defensive liability. Unfortunately, that is not the case for the Dukes. I assume that was Dambrot’s main worry and he may have the evidence from practice to prove so. Still wish Jett would have got some time in game!

I wish him the best of luck!

That would be a shame but he seemed the next most likely based upon his interaction with Dambrot on the bench.

Exactly. If that never happened he probably would not have ended up on my list of potential transfers. I imagine he wants to go back to the West Coast.

Feels like Dambrot may be using Bekelja as a change of pace PG now that Carry is gone. Carry was a great player but I am sure we can all remember a time where he would ruin momentum or try to do too much and waste a possession. You know what you are going to get out of Bekelja, and he is a very low risk player on the floor. Hustle, defense, and selfless play. "Knows his own bounds" if you will.

I am confident over time he will also find his shot and be able to knock down a few 3s per game. Acuff will also become a great A10 point guard. Their confidence is and will continue to grow.
