...at this point, being as disappointed as I am with the results so far, my starting lineup for the remainder of the season would be Primo Spears, Jackie Johnson III, Tyson Acuff, Toby Okani & Mounir Hima.

To me, these guys seem to have the most long range upside.  Give them each 25-30 minutes of playing time per game and split the remaining minutes among the rest leaving the chips fall where they may.  Play a fast paced game with pressure defense and perhaps (though doubtful) by A-10 tourney time they can be ready to surprise people and pull off some upsets.  At the least it should give the core players experience and something to build on for next season.

Haha love it VBC and maybe nobody tell him that, or he might go around campus referring to himself as simply.." The Choice " or better yet..." The Maharaja of Love " as our friend the 20th century Peoples Choice did! 😀 Great win as they played together and liked defense too 👏

I had forgotten about "The Maharaja of Love".  Thanks for reminding me and giving me a good laugh this morning.  Next time I see him I'll have to bring that up.

We are gaining more confidence and getting better.  If they can keep up the intensity they displayed today after such a long layoff this team is going to be fun to watch the rest of the way. Go Dukes!

I'm with you.  Earlier this season I was looking at these guys and seeing that there is a lot of talent there but they just weren't getting it done.  As others pointed out the coaching staff needed to step up and get them playing together as a team.  Well, these last two games they've looked like the team that you and I were hoping for when we posted our preseason win predictions.  I'm feeling really good about this bunch right now. The freshman guards are really impressing me.

I'm in group A, but in all of sports the only teams that truly matter to me are the Duquesne University men's and women's basketball teams.

Let's hope that the light bulb has come on for this group of players today and that better days are on the way starting now.

I'm reminded of the time when I was in junior high school and a teammate threw 3 consecutive inbounds passes to the same player on the other team resulting in a layup for the opposition each time.  After the third one our coach yelled, "If you throw the ball away one more time I'm going to shove a red hot poker up your ass!!!!"  I remember biting my lip trying to keep a straight face so I wasn't the next to be yelled at for laughing.  We still laugh about this at our high school reunions.

stew, there are 3,285 registered users to this forum.  That shows ne there is still passion for this team despite 40 years in the desert.  Sure, many of you are out of town, but the passion is there.  There's also many passionate fans in the local area who aren't registered on this board or even know that it exists.  When we start winning regularly the Coop is going to be rocking and packed.  As Don Maser said to me a decade or so ago, there are at least 7,000 good Dukes fans in the local area and when we get back to where we were when Mase was recruited all of those people are going to want a ticket to the games.

The student section was outstanding Tuesday evening.  It seemed like they were having a lot of fun.  That made it more fun for an old man like me and the enthusiasm that they bring will help get the passion to be reignited in some of us who may have lost it over the years.

Primo blew me away, and largely led this team to a victory in his first college game! That cannot be underestimated, best freshman debut game since….?

Go Dukes!

I'm going to say since Austin Rotroff 3 years ago.

As for Davis Larson, he's a D-1 player now, no matter how that came to be.  I believe when Rotroff and Gunn are healthy Larson will rarely see the floor.  But I was not surprised to see him out there on Tuesday, nor Mike Bekelja.  When you are a bench player the best way to earn playing time is to show the coach that you will do the things he wants you to do.  That means being where you are supposed to be in the offensive sets and not making mistakes on defense.  As someone who Keith thought highly enough about to bring on as a grad assistant Larson should be able to do what Keith wants him to do.  Bekelja has shown that also.  Others may have more athletic ability but being in the right place at the right time will help you win a lot of basketball games.  When the more athletic guys gain Keith's confidence that they will be in the right place at the right time they'll be on the floor and both Larson and Bekelja will get those dreaded words in front of their names, "seldom used".

A fun night at Cooper Fieldhouse!

The first half was very ragged but things got better in the second half with the Dukes pulling away in the final minutes.  There's much to improve on, but it was a good win.

The most impressive thing to me tonight was the student section.  I arrived about 5 minutes before tipoff and it was packed which was a big surprise to me.  They were enthusiastic all night long and clearly were having fun.  I'm very, very encouraged.

Do students have to pay for tickets? I’ve been gone long, but back then, tickets were part of tuition. If so, no wonder kids don’t show. Ten bucks to sit in the end zone!

No, tickets are still part of the deal.

My season tickets for the men's team have arrived in my email box.  I plan on printing them out for each game rather than using my phone to gain admittance.

Regarding the comments about tickets above, here is what I received from the ticket office earlier in the week as a response to an inquiry.

We are going mobile this year with our tickets, similar to if you’ve been to a game for one of the major pro teams in the city over the last few years. We will email the tickets out closer to the season along with a tutorial video and step by step process on how to access your tickets and transfer them to family & friends. We can also offer print at home tickets if you prefer that. You can purchase walk up tickets at the box office on the day of the game.

Here is my prediction:

The Dukes will go 11-2 in the Non Conference
The Dukes will go 13-5 in the League finish 2nd and get a double bye
Combined 24-7
Two A10 Tournament wins:   26 total wins before for contest

Tie breaker 160 points in two game winning the A10 championship

I'm going to one up you, old friend, and go with 27 total wins.  I'm agreeing with your non-conference and conference marks but I say 3 wins in the A-10 tournament to grab the automatic bid.  240 points as a tie breaker.

Can I spend 2 nights in McKeesport's 10th Ward instead of downtown?  It's so nice by the sewage treatment plant.

I am very hopeful for this upcoming season.  All I have is some second and third hand information like most of us here, but from what I am hearing Keith really likes this group.  The injury to Rotroff has to hurt, but if he can get these guys on a roll early maybe this can be the season we've been waiting for.

Has anyone seen these guys play in pickups or whatever? Any first hand thoughts? I’m over by the pacific and over the hill.

I spoke with a bunch of former players over the weekend and none of them have been to practice to see the team so no further insight.  At least a dozen of us got together for drinks on Saturday night after the homecoming festivities including Slick, The Pan, Scoonie, Espo and more and we had a great time.  I was drinking G&Ts in honor of the Van Braam.
