We're paying a million dollars a year for this crap. Fire him and let's move to the MAC where we belong.

This team stinks, especially the guards, They can't makeshots from the free throw line. They turn the ball over on stupid plays, We are headed for a sub-.500 conference season.

I know this is late but just wanted to point out we shot 56 percent from the field and that helped win the game.

Yes, we definitely did have a chance to win ;) I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thinking the same thing though.

Under what circumstances would KD yank TDM? I don't care if folks here don't like to criticize the players too specifically. One player is making it damn near impossible for the Dukes to win. He's immature & selfish. His defense is a joke!
I usually am one of the ones who doesn't like to see personal criticisms of the players, but I have to agree on that one. When the other team is on a run, we need to slow things down and go to our best play to get a bucket. A quick 25 footer isn't anybody's best play. He did it twice too. I wouldn't say his defense is a joke though. He's a pesky defender who makes some nice plays. His lack of height is definitely a detriment, but we knew that coming in. A liability? Yes. A joke? No.
DennisC91 wrote:
Not only did they not call the T, they waved off the shot and he had to make two more.
I think they handled it right in not calling the T. It didn't seem like it was thrown on the court, seemed like the fan just lost it. Calling a T at that point would have been madness. The smart thing to do would have been to give Sin the benefit of the doubt though. If he makes it, count it. If he misses, penalize the home team by calling the shot off. So I think the refs did botch it, but I think T'ing them up at that point would have been worse. I know it's by the book, but there's always a gray area.

I think the defensive plan against the Dukes' has begun to circulate the conference: jam the hoop and make the Dukes beat you from outside. Simple idea, our best scorers can't get near the rim, and they also can't consistently get to the inside to rebound. Our outside shooting is not dependable (or let's say streaky). IMHO, this game plan contributes to making us uncomfortable and out of sync for extended minutes during a game. An oversimplification on my part? Hell, yes. What are your thoughts? (and be kind).
Are you suggesting we recruit a sharp-shooter at the No. 2 guard? Hmmmmmmmmm

I would agree that most of my posts are on the negative side but we haven’t been to the NCAA tournament in four decades. There has been a lot of negative times in this program.
That being said, I think I also pointed out some positives in the posts. I have said before that I am no KD fan, so that should not be a surprise. But if you notice, I do give him credit for making the program better.
The timing of my latest post really has nothing to do with the losing streak. The problem I had was not being able to watch this team to make a judgment on their strengths and weaknesses until recently. One of the shocking things about this program is the few times it shows up on television.
I would also point out that following a loss, there are many other posters who express their anger with the way the team played.

Feel bad for the pig.
Not a Ferry fan either.
So you are saying we don't need a consistent 2 guard? Anyone agree with that?
| Men's Basketball » Game Thread - Dayton Flyers #7 (H) » 1/31/2020 10:01 am |
First, I am not a troll. I’ve just been too busy to post. What I see in this team is that there is no consistency in the outside shooting from the guards, especially the two.
I have never been a KD fan but I think his plan has made the program better. Still, I think he is a bit of a dinosaur in that he relies on his front court to win games. To be fair, that’s where the most talent lies on this team
But we desperately need a sharp shooting guard, who can pull defenses away from the basket and open up the middle of the lane, to take the next step to the next level. I don’t see that type of guard on this team and that’s the reason why we lost to UMass.
We had that guard in Williams and KD ran him off. If you want to win a title, find another one like him.

I have never been overly thrilled with Dambrot. His first recruiting class can be forgiven to a degree because he probably was unaware of the level needed to play at the A-10 level. I can even give a pass for the second class because some came and sat.
There are no excuses now. If he can't judge the right player now, this program will struggle.I read with great interest these posts, but it seems when I get to the ones by rittersdiner - and I am not picking on him at all - they just seem to come out of left field. So, you're suggesting that it's possible that a coach of the caliber of Keith Dambrot "probably was unaware of the level needed to play at the A-10 level." That is one of the most LUDICROUS comments I've ever read on this board. The man won at least 20 games 12 years in a row at a Mid-American Conference school (the MAC isn't that far off the A-10, even when the A-10 is strong). During that time, Dambrot won at least 26 games in a season four times! He coached Lebron James in high school. But you're saying he's probably unaware of the level of play in the A-10. SMH. That's just wrong. You are so far off base, sir, there is no hope to even put any stock in what you say. The current coach, Keith Dambrot, is well on his way to righting this ship at Duquesne. If you can't see that, you're clearly the one who is unaware of the level of play in the A-10. Some people would never be satisfied, even if they had John Wooden as the coach.
I consider the A10 a better overall conference than the MAC.
What I mean by the level of play is having an intimate knowledge of each team and what it takes to beat them. You don't get that feel if Akron plays an A10 team once in a while in OOC.. Dambrot probably could tell you coaches tendencies in the MAC while at Akron but not the A10. Now, he should know.
Finally, You're stuck on the number of wins. I value quality of wins. What was our best win? Radnor? 121st. There are

Williams loss is a big blow to this team. He is a 20-8-4 player when he wants to be. The Dukes just got pushed back a year in their chances to make the NIT.
| Men's Basketball » Game Thread - Saint Joseph's Hawks (A10 Tourney) » 3/15/2019 8:39 am |
Well, so much for the NIT.
This team has some problems:
* defense is not strong enough though it is a good shot-blocking team
* some of the front court needs to get bigger, stronger
* Carry not dependable because of his knees, need to work out time pattern with other guards to keep him fresh
* my god, get better at free throws
* don't fear the zone defense at times
* fix whatever makes Eric Williams inconsistent scorer
Not a bad season but much more should be expected next year.
