I’m not going to compare this win to wins in the 30s and 40s because there is no comparison. The only real debate is if it’s the biggest win since football was revived. I came up with a top ten of those games. I’ll present them in chronological order so you can decide.

1973 vs. Mattatuck CC - Completed an undefeated season at Three Rivers to win the club football national championship

1981 vs. Carnegie Mellon - Beat CMU in season opener at Three Rivers on WPXI.

1994 vs. Iona - Beat Iona at Rooney Field on ESPN2 in just second year in 1-AA.

1995 vs. Wagner - Win ECAC Bowl at Rooney Field to cap off 10-1 season and clinch 1-AA mid-major national championship.

2002 vs. Fairfield - Cap off 11-0 regular season at home keeping hopes alive for first ever playoff bid.

2003 vs. Monmouth - Win ECAC Bowl at home to clinch 1-AA mid-major national championship.

2006 @ Robert Morris - Beat local rival on Fox Sports Pittsburgh in first TV game in 12 years.

2015 vs. St. Francis - Clinch first ever playoff bid on ESPN3 in winner take all game at Rooney Field.

2018 @ Towson - First ever playoff win and win over FCS ranked team.

2021 @ Ohio - First win over opponent from highest division since 1949.

No doubt it’s a huge win for the program. I’d personally put the Towson, Wagner, and St. Francis games ahead of it since there was more on the line. No complaints from me if you want to call it the biggest win in 80 years though.

A great win for the Dukes. These upsets are usually by high powered spread offenses who are able to turn the game into a shootout. We didn't do that. We won not by spreading them out, but at the line of scrimmage.

We dominated time of possession not by running clock between every snap, but by executing with incredible efficiency. 67% completions passing the ball and we outrushed a running team. After an ugly start, the defense stepped up and took care of business too. We held them to 81 yards of offense over a 41 minute span and outscored them 22-0 in the process.

Most importantly the Dukes made plays when they mattered most. 7/16 on 3rd down (and another 2/2 on 4th), a huge 1/7 on third downs for the defense, and of course the 2 point stop with everything on the line. Again after an ugly start the kicking game was perfect. 4/4 on field goals, 2/2 on PATs, and 45 yards per punt with one downed at the 1 to set up a safety.

This is the Dukes first win over a team playing at the highest level since 1949 and first against a team still playing at the highest level since 1942. This wasn't a bottom feeder FBS team we beat either. They were in a one score game with Syracuse last week midway through the 3rd quarter. They've won bowl games the last three seasons bowls were played and haven't had a losing season since 2008. Hopefully the athletic department makes good use of the money from these games. Major kudos to Coach Schmitt and the entire football program for already putting this one to good use.

I get the frustration Hilltopper. This was supposed to be THE year for the Dukes. Four starters back for their third year as starters. A good freshman class to provide a spark and depth. The guys who got injured were healthy. The arena was opening up. This was our year! Then we went .500 and won't sniff the postseason again. So I get the frustration. Part of the reason this year was so important is because of the recruiting misses you mentioned. Still calling us a bottom feeder is a gross exaggeration. We've now finished .500 or better in conference three years in a row. We never did that even two years in a row before. 500 is by definition not a bottom feeder. We aren't where we want to be (and where Dambrot has promised he'll get us), no doubt about that. We aren't a bottom feeder though. Dambrot may not be our savior, but the only one of the past seven coaches you can even remotely compare to him is Everhart.

I love the team we have right now and would love to see them with the opportunity to play a full year together. So if it were up to me, I'd take everyone back. In order of importance though, or how much I'd want them back I'd say:

1. Baker - He's a star in the making and has to at least be a candidate for conference freshman of the year. He became a go to scorer over the past few games and would be recognized as a stat sheet stuffer if his points weren't so important. Three more years as a Duke would be incredible. Three years elsewhere would be painful to watch.
2. Hughes - Look at the season's stat sheet if you want to know how important he is. Second in points, first in rebounds, second in assists, second in steals, first in blocks. Beyond that, nobody can replace his physicality, and when adversity hit he truly became a team leader. Bringing him back would be huge.
3. Weathers - He was our best scorer, and when his shots weren't falling he still found ways to contribute. I like the Barkley comparison, but think Draymond Green is closer. He does a little bit of everything. Most of all, when the team had no fire, he provided a spark time and time again.
4. Harris - Whether it's now or after next year, he becomes our best big man when Hughes leaves. He was getting better every game until his playing time started to wane down the stretch. It's exciting to think about what he could do with 25-30 minutes a game.
5. Okani - Similar to Baker, youth is a big part of this one. His game isn't as developed as Baker's, but he had some really impressive flashes of talent. I'd like to see his game develop in a Dukes uniform.
6. TDM - He's this low more because of misfit in role than anything else. A move back to his sixth man role would be best, but is unlikely to happen. His shot selection could be downright maddening at times. The potential is always there to light up the score sheet though. He also has made some clutch shots for us in his time here, and I think a lot of th

Just finished watching the game after having to leave at half again. I was certainly tempted not to come back today, but I'm glad I did. The never say die Dukes showed up again, but couldn't do it for 20 minutes. Dambrot's challenge for next year, regardless of who comes back, will be to keep the intensity without letting guys cross the line. We had a great run going until we took the bait the Bonnies laid out for us. They got the tech, we converted the freebies, but they came out of it more focused and pulled away again. We looked tired in the first half, but not in the second. Perhaps motivation and focus was more a factor than actual fatigue.

I for one would love to have the seniors back and I think this kind of game helps in that respect. Covid and the transfers hurt this season for sure, but it also brought the team together. This is clearly a very tight knit group that loves playing with each other and has each other's backs. Losing in ugly fashion might motivate the seniors to come back to take care of unfinished business.

St. Bonaventure is the best rebounding team in the conference and we're not even boxing them out. Having said that, the refs need to watch offensive goaltending. Osunniyi should have had it called against him twice and neither was. Take those hoops away and we're still down big, but I hope Dambrot has brought that up already. He's going to need all of halftime to figure out how to get back in this game.

I called for some press in my preview. I'm going to have to nix that recommendation. We're starting to look like a team playing back to back. Little movement on offense, settling for deep shots. The defensive effort is there, but we're late rotating and leaving open shooters. Weathers is giving it all he's got now, but it won't be enough if he can't get the shots to fall.

I fear that he's focused on his outside shot to be able to show pro teams he's a complete scorer. The problem is it's not working. I liked the commentator's Barkley comparison yesterday. Obviously he's not a future hall of famer, but he's tough to stop when he puts his head down and he's got a great spin move too. He has to stop settling for outside shots.

Yesterday was a good win, but we need to play a lot better to win today. Expect a 40 minute battle and the team who plays better defense will win. In their four losses they only shot even 40% from the field once. They never made more than 1/3 of their threes. It's vital to finish off good defensive possessions by getting the rebound though. If we rebound like we did yesterday we'll lose by 20. They hit the glass as hard as anyone in the conference and Osunniyi has killed us in the past. They got outrebounded in all four losses. Defending Lofton is going to be key. In their four losses he's only averaged 11.8 points a game, shot 1 for 10 from three point range and has just a 1.2 assist to turnover ratio. They basically only go 6 deep. So even though we are playing on back to back days I'd like to see some press. We don't want to turn the game into a track meet, but making them run brings them out of their comfort zone and favors us. A tightly called game might actually favor us for that reason too. If our bigs get in foul trouble it's bad news, but we've got depth, they don't. This is definitely a game we can win. We aren't a typical 9 seed and they aren't a typical 1 either. For the third game in a row I'll have to say I hope I'm wrong and predict an L though. Dukes 62 Bonnies 68.

It was the opposite when they were on the road. Anybody here think we get a fair shake from the stripes.

Well the refereeing can't be worse than yesterday. I just hope they call it consistently. Both teams are physical teams, so they should let the players play. As long as they call it the same way both ways we'll have nothing to complain about though. Yesterday was probably the worst refereed game I've ever seen. It mostly favored Richmond, but there were some bad calls that went our way too. I don't know any of their names, but hopefully that crew doesn't ever work another of our games. If they get the treatment they deserve they'll never work another game anywhere.

This is one of those topics that we'll just have to agree to disagree on. Roughly half the board (including myself) says once a Duke always a Duke. The other half says if you're a Duquesne alum you're a Duke for life. We've been through it 100 times and I don't think anyone convinced the other side of their viewpoint.

TJ was my favorite Duke for two years. So I say congrats. A triple double is quite an accomplishment. An NBA record is literally historic.

I watched the first half before having to go in to work and just finished watching the second half. As we all have said, it's all about defense. I thought the defense was good in the first half, but we couldn't finish the possessions off with rebounds. Great defense in the second half. From 13:14 to 00:02 we held one of the most efficient offenses in the country to 1 for 12 shooting and 14 points. Baker is turning into not just the next Duquesne star, but a go to scorer already. TDM makes up for 35 bad minutes with clutch play to finish them off. None of that matters without the top flight defense though. I said at halftime the future of Duquesne basketball might start today. We'll see how things go tomorrow. We definitely will need Mike and Marcus to bring their A games to beat the Bonnies. The freshmen brought it today. We don't win without them. Acuff should be getting starters minutes. Baker is going from a star in the making to a star before our eyes. Okani struggled down the stretch, but he got us going when we really needed it. The ghosts are still alive. Keep it going Dukes.

We're defending well enough to win. The offense and rebounding is doing us in. 50% three point shooting is great, but we can't settle for those shots especially early in the possession. The box score has us only losing the rebound battle by one and only credits Richmond with two offensive rebounds. Both seem much more lopsided than that. The injuries haven't seemed to matter so far. Gilyard is filling in for Francis pretty well and Golden certainly doesn't look hurt. The future for the Dukes could be starting today. Hughes is playing his usual brand of great defense, but is being dominated by Golden on the other end. Weathers and TDM are trying to take over the game. Weathers is scoring, but also turning the ball over. TDM is out of control. Freshmen are three of our four leading scorers at the half, and only have 1/3 of the team's turnovers. Keep up the defensive intensity, but we have to hit the glass hard. We've been good in transition, but if it's not there don't get out of control. Don't be afraid to lean on the freshmen. They're barely freshmen at this point anyway.

You know it's bad when even the announcers are criticizing the refs. If we can't rebound better we'll have no one to blame but ourselves though. The A-10 has some really physical good rebounding teams, Richmond isn't one of them. I like the move to press though. Richmond has a lot of talent, but not much depth. They also want to slow things down into a half-court game. Get them out of their comfort zone and even if we don't force turnovers it will favor us. Plus depth is something we've been blessed with. A different guy seems to take over every few years. Right now it's Okani.

We have to stop settling for threes. I like the defensive pressure though. Extending out already got us one steal and almost another. The numbers don't look good defensively, but if we continue this pressure that will turn around as the game goes on.

Three point shooting and rebounding will be key. They are dangerous from deep, but if you can stop that weapon you have a good chance of beating them. In fact, only once in their seven losses did they make 1/3 of their threes. Meanwhile, their opponents made at least half of their threes in four of their seven losses. They got outrebounded in all seven losses by a combined 63 rebounds. It seemed like a bad break that we have to play them in Richmond, but five of those seven losses happened in Richmond and they are only 6-5 in their home city this year.

They are definitely beatable. Less than two weeks ago we were leading them with two minutes left in the game. I expect a 40 minute battle that could go either way. They have had our number for years though and are a very good team playing in their home city fighting to make the tournament. I hope I'm wrong, but I'll say Dukes 69 Spiders 71.

Phoenix I assume these posts are just cut and pastes, so the error would be their's and not yours; but in the off chance you transcribe them, the score of the first game is wrong. It should be 79-72, not 79-62. The game was closer than even the seven point margin indicates. It was a hell of a lot closer than a 17 point game.

Bettors like the Dukes so far. The spread dropped within an hour of opening. It's probably a result of the injuries, but it could also have something to do with the Dukes covering the spread seven games in a row.

How good is the A-10 now? The 7 seed beat Ole Miss. The 8 seed beat Kentucky. The 10 seed beat Seton Hall. Winning that tournament would be quite a feat, but I think the Dukes have a chance. The double bye would have helped, but the week off between the semis and finals make a four game run easier. As I've said many times before, there's not a team in the conference the Dukes can't beat. The only question is can they beat four of them in a row? I give them a 10% chance.

Yep not sure why since they had a better conference record percentage wise than Dayton. SMH

Dayton's 9-7 is good for a 56.25 win percentage. Richmond's 6-5 is a 54.5. So those seeds are as they should be. Where the conference screwed up is coming up with the convoluted 60 percent of the median threshold to use the NET rankings and then deciding not to use it when only one team didn't meet it. George Washington's 8 conference games falls below the threshold of 8.1 based on a median of 13.5. So they should be seeded 13th based on their NET ranking. Instead they are seeded 11th based on conference win percentage even though they didn't meet the threshold.

I love to see that. Having not seen it in person I didn't know if it was possible to see the court from the windows. I know during the broadcast they were talking about curtains for the windows. I kind of hope they don't. I think it's a good look from the court. It's a difficult depth perception that could give us a home court advantage being used to it (we certainly have shot well in two games there so far). Most of all, we barely have any fans as it is. If some of them are dedicated enough to stand outside and watch then I say let them. How much money is it really costing the program? Students get in free anyway. It's been years since I've been to a game so I don't know what tickets go for, but it can't really be that big of a deal. Wrigley Field has the rooftops across the street, Cal Stadium has tightwad hill, the Skydome had the hotel, I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting. If it really becomes a problem, address it then, but I don't foresee that happening. Planning curtains now is creating a problem that isn't there.

Great research Phoenix. I agree with your premise. The hot shooting is great, but we can't expect it continue for four games. We have to get back to the top flight defense we had been playing. Bottom line though is if we are going to win the tournament (pretty much our only chance at any postseason) we will need both. As always our chances in the tournament will be largely dependent on how the bracket sets up for us.

We are good enough now that I think we can beat any team in the conference. We're not good enough that we can run through four teams in a row without having some favorable matchups. The good news is the bracket is looking pretty good for us. With three games left there isn't much that set in stone yet, but we can have a pretty good idea of what the bracket will look like.

Dayton will likely be our first round opponent (only other possibilities are St. Louis or a minute chance of Richmond). We not only beat them in the last game, but dominated them for 35 minutes. Our next opponent would be St. Bonaventure. They are playing really good ball, but we took them to the wire in our last game. If we get a couple bounces that we didn't get in that one, we can certainly beat them too. The next game would likely be Davidson. They have had our number, including a blow out win this year. So that would be really tough. Not that we can't beat them, but we'd have to bring our A+ game to do it. The other possibility (baring a few upsets the only other possibility) would be St. Louis. I haven't seen them this year, but our games with them always seem to be hard fought close battles for 40 minutes. They are very beatable outside St. Louis though. So I think we could beat them. That would put us in the final against likely VCU or Richmond. Both would be very tough games, but you wouldn't expect anything less in a conference championship game. I think we match up better with VCU, but we did just play Richmond tight last week.

Long story short, if tomorrow's games go the
