For a long time in Pittsburgh, what was good for the Universities was good for the city. Now, the economic, cultural and civic (no pun intended) developments will help Duquesne hopefully attract more students in a hyper competitive landscape. I'm glad all of these projects are finally kicking off.

He's gotta graduate high school first regardless of his Wpial eligibility. In all likelihood, he'll just go to a prep school

I really liked the game at the War Memorial in Johnstown a couple years ago. I'd like to see us play St Francis in a men's and women's double header.

I'm guessing we'll go out West to play someone in the MWC - A10 challenge next year maybe UNLV, Air Force or New Mexico.

I'd like to see us start a home and away with a couple of solid mid majors or an AAC school on the road. Think Valpo, East Carolina, Belmont, or Vermont.

There isn't going to be much room for chumps if the Dukes want to build an NCAA / NIT worthy SOS, but I'd schedule one or two.

I'd add a couple of points to the how Duquesne should recruit:

1) stop promising early playing time. Now that Dambrot has his core in place, there isn't always going to be time available immediately. Talk instead about development and how the staff can improve aspects of their game.

2) I don't expect Dambrot to do this as he didn't do a lot of it at Akron, but a Duquesne coach should be open to any avenue to add talent. Transfers, junior college transfers, grad transfers, prep school, traditional high school, foreign markets. Whatever you can get take it

KD recognizes this, and I believe we are beginning to see this with local kids Maceo and Ellis.  Both of this kids are P-5 quality recruits.

Maceo may indeed be P5 quality, we will see. Getting Ellis was no great feat, it was a case of KD being willing to take a chance. P5 schools weren't after Ellis, because of the combination of his being quite raw, and having bad grades. KD was smartly willing to take a chance on a player that probably would have gone D2. Not at all similar to Maceo, who he had to battle good schools for. In a way, more similar to Carry, in that no schools were really after him. A "hidden diamond (we hope)" type deal.

If coaches knew Ellis would qualify, competition for him would've been stiffer. Dambrot found a way to get him here where others could not or did not. He was heading to Junior college and I don't think we would've been able to land him if he got there.

Here is a piece I just finished on the current state of the A-10 as it relates to the postseason. You can put me pretty firmly in Wildwoods' camp. There are definitely some considerable red flags even if their is time to recover from them.

For those of you who weren’t aware, Face and I recently restarted WeWearTheRing. I’m very proud of The Point of Pittsburgh, but the space didn’t really allow for my Duquesne content and with the excitement Keith Dambrot has brought back. I don’t plan to regularly post links here, only when what I’m writing is relevant to an existing thread as is the case here. That said, we would greatly appreciate it if you bookmarked the page or followed us on social media. My apologies if the second half of this post derails the original topic. If you’d like to talk WWTR, please private message me here.

This is a pretty big deal in the sense that Duquesne beat out some highly regarded schools ahead of them in the pecking order including Pitt I also think he’s one of the first kids Dambrot has recruited to come here that I don’t think he could have also gotten at Akron. Grant it, the talent he had would’ve played in the A-10, especially the current A-10, at a higher level than we’ve been accustomed to, but to compete for championships he needed to upgrade the caliber of athletes he brought in. I think he did just that and he has a guard to reload around to start his second wave.

Predictive services tend to go conservative / underrate teams that they have limited information on or who have a lot of unknown commodities. Dukes really have both. Sometimes, I think it's a credibility thing. If you swing big too many times on risky or bold picks, you lose credibility. If you stick with safe picks and you're wrong, readers care less as a lot of people were wrong together. Other times, I think they just fail to do adequate research.

The NEC is still a school short from the last set of defections. Duquesne would need to drastically change their stadium situation to move up a conference. They'd also start from the bottom for very little advantage.

If I were them, I would enjoy the success I'm having in a lower conference and maybe win quite a few more outright championships before I bolt.

Those conferences should still benefit from NET. I like these changes, a lot, but I'm not sure I like them immediately being implemented. Schools built their schedules with RPI in mind.

Kenpom Rankings from last season

Notre Dame - 35
W & M - 169
Radford - 170
UIC - 182

Only two opponents SFU and Southern Illinois finished higher than any of those teams last year.

Some people may not agree with me, but I loved his play for the jump ball in the first video. Much bigger player fought him for possession but he wouldn't  be denied the ball even after the whistle. Sure he got t'd up, and it was dirty but that showed a ton of competitivess and sends a message to the opponent.

I had a similar thought last fall. He'll run three guard sets with taller, in demand guards ala Eric Williams Jr, but he could be grabbing stay at home centers other coaches seem to me moving away from.

Bonnie's gets screwed again. RPI ranked 23 and the have the 11/11 play-in game. They're paying the price for Davidson getting in.

Frankly, that's BS.

Bonnie's RPI was nice, but it's not the only thing that gets considered. It was no doubt the best thing they had going however they only had three top 50 wins to go with 3 100+ losses. That's normally not a great formula for an A-10 team to dance.

In the end, I don't hate their position. They have a decent shot at beating UCLA and earning an extra NCAA credit against an 11 seed. That's a lot of extra money for a school with a small budget like theirs. La Salle made the sweet 16 after starting Dayton a few years back.

LaSalle and GW both go down this afternoon, assuring the Dukes of no lower than a 10th place finish, avoiding the dreaded play-in round. I believe we're locked into 10th place regardless as we'd lose both a head-to-head tiebreaker with Dayton (based on best conference win) and a three-way tiebreaker with Dayton and Richmond (based on head-to-head). But let's get a win tonight. UMass is the worst team in the league and is more or less in free fall.

This is correct. The Dukes could finish no worse than 10th as soon as La Salle lost. Game tonight is essesntially meaningless although a win would help their chances of being asked to buy a CBI game.

Going to be some big programs without coaches. I'm guessing Tom Izzo will "retire."

The team was picked in preseason to finish last among 14 teams in the conference. What exactly does anyone expect at this point? I don't get moaning about losing a road game by single digits. Nobody likes to lose. Obviously. Yet this team continues to show up (with exception of the Fordham game lately). Last-place projections usually play out that way. A 7-point loss on the road in this league by the last-place projected team isn't a terrible commentary. And as for the current coach, anyone who blasts this guy beyond perhaps mentioning that he may or may not be hurting his team with technicals and he probably should go easy on older announcers is way out of line in my book. And as mentioned, all that's got to be a product of hating to lose. Let's all go back and rehire Jim Ferry, who thought he was still coaching in the NEC when he got to the A10. Duquesne is going to be a force under this guy. Give it some time, will ya? Sheesh.

The ones moaning and groaning are folks who somehow convinced themselves that we had become some sort of powerhouse overnight. There was crazy talk of at large bids and such. Now that the obvious warts and shortcomings of this roster have become apparent to even them, these folks are disappointed. I am very satisfied with our record. Yeah, we've lost a few tough ones, but Lamar, SF, LaSalle, GMU, and @GW all could very easily have been losses, so we've had our share of good luck. In November, everyone on this board would have taken 15-12 at this point of the season. We're playing with a D2 frontcourt. We've done just about the best we can playing 3 on 5.

Duq81,

I do agree with most of your post expect your final point. In defense of Tydus, he's not polished offensively but he's got all conference defensive team upside and in my eyes, he'd merit consideration this year if not for the fact that he's is a freshman. I've watch a fair amount of A-10 games during the conference season and I'm not sur

I bet the staff will finds room if he'd like to come here.

Honestly, I'd put my money on Pitt if they weren't imploding and about to fire their staff.

South Carolina is the geographic outlier and based on where the rest of the top three is, I would guess he wants to come home. That said, Martin pulled the rug out from under us last time we went head to head.

I wonder if Ferry's going to say nice things about us? He was on him long before he got fired at Duquesne so he might have one of the longest relationships with the kid of any college coach in the country.

I was already sad Nathan Stone graduated. It'll be even more sad that he won't be around for a year lure his cousin.
