Men's Basketball » Duquesne Announces Dae Dae Grant Enrollment At Duquesne » 5/24/2022 7:28 pm

Guard situation way improved over last season. Mainly due to experience that they bring to the table. Looking forward to watching this group of guards play for the Dukes.

Men's Basketball » I Am Excited For Next Season » 5/16/2022 2:25 pm

I believe that the Dukes will be better next year if only because we know that lightening can't strike twice in the same place. Or can it? This team may look similar to last year's team in terms of makeup but the added experience at guard should be enough to add a degree of consistency that we never saw last year. If we get anything out of Tre and at least one other big , and I include Rotroff in that mix, we will be much more likely to win some of those close games that got away from us last season. Not saying that we will be a good solid all around team but I can see us gutting out some wins that we had no chance for last year. That's why I'm looking for 16 or 17 wins as stated in another post elsewhere. In fact, I'll be very disappointed if we have any kind of losing season. Thinking Dru Joyce can be a positive influence from the get go. We have been looking for a shakeup in the coaching staff and here he is. Not expecting miracles but am expecting a better product on the court next season for the aforementioned reasons. Go Dukes!!

The record in year 5 was 6-24. Many coaches are relieved of their coaching duties after such a season. I have never advocated for that. EVER! But I did post that the coming season is the most significant one of the two seasons, this past one and the next, for me. We really need to see major progress and more than a .500  season IMHO. We went from 9-9 to 6-24 in one season. Lets at least see 16 or 17 wins this next season. Am I being too demanding or unrealistic with this? I really don't think so. I'd really like to see 20 wins but not certain that is a possibility with the roster as it now stands. I don't believe , as one poster suggested, that we will see a similar season coming up, but on the outside chance that we do, then the university has a serious decision to make. Let's get it turned around and Let's go Dukes!

Good for him! Wishing Mike the best. He was painfully in over his head here. Not his fault.

Men's Basketball » Hima in Portal » 5/12/2022 5:07 pm

Love this recruiting class too!!  Maybe too much to ask for a big time center from the portal.
Haven't given up quite yet!! Next years team could definitely be a winner!!!! Love the guards.
Let's get back on track. GO DUKES!!!!

Men's Basketball » Hima in Portal » 5/12/2022 12:21 pm

Could be center by committee. Certain we will see Tre there at times especially if we don't land another big.

Men's Basketball » Hima in Portal » 5/12/2022 6:51 am

I do believe that there is a certain rigidness to KD's thinking which sometimes creates problems that might otherwise be addressed. Not saying KD is not a good coach but  I do see this as a flaw in an otherwise solid coach and individual. Stubbornness is rarely a virtue when flexibility may be in order. Just my 3 cents worth.

Men's Basketball » Hima in Portal » 5/11/2022 4:45 pm

Truly hoping Dru Joyce III can be a difference maker in many ways.

Men's Basketball » Hima in Portal » 5/11/2022 4:36 pm

Does make one wonder.

Men's Basketball » Hima in Portal » 5/11/2022 3:57 pm

Can anyone explain to me how we can basically dismiss a player who is then scooped up by a power 5 program, albeit not a program currently at its best? This is really disappointing to me all the way around! Raises some interesting questions in my mind too!

Basketball Recruiting » Dukes in Final 5 for Thiero » 5/06/2022 9:33 am

That's also a valid point!  Who else would go to allow for any further newcomers? Aren't we at our 13 limit or are we? Our recruiting is like an Agatha Christie mystery thriller!

Basketball Recruiting » Dukes in Final 5 for Thiero » 5/05/2022 4:56 pm

For what it's worth, I'll be surprised if our roster isn't set at this point. Hoping that I'm wrong but that's my gut feeling. Would much rather have a descent big than Thiero at this point.

No doubt!!

Men's Basketball » Tyson Acuff.... » 5/05/2022 9:02 am

Wish Tyson well there. It may be the absolute best thing for him in the long run. He just needs the opportunity to experience some success and to restore some possible lost confidence in himself IMO. I do also believe that he could have been a solid piece of the puzzle here had he stayed and been given the opportunity to get a bit more PT. I do feel the same about many of those players who departed for greener pastures. Truly hoping that Coach Joyce will be able to connect with players on a level that might have been missing here. Just speculation on my part. GO DUKES!

Men's Basketball » Duquesne hires Dru Joyce III » 5/04/2022 12:33 pm

Couldn't be more excited about Coach Joyce coming to the Dukes. As I stated in an earlier post, this could be way more impactful than any recruits heading our way. KD is certainly looking to him to bring new ideas and energy to the program. Let's get a big to go with the rest of this year's class and LET'S GO DUKES!

Men's Basketball » Duquesne hires Dru Joyce III » 5/02/2022 3:02 pm

Did I miss something? Did any of our coaches leave the program?

That's what everybody is thinking!

Wouldn't that be something!!!

Men's Basketball » Duquesne hires Dru Joyce III » 5/02/2022 2:29 pm

My initial reaction to the Dru Joyce hiring is YES!!!!! This could be more impactful than any recruit we have brought in. Some new blood on the staff and apparently a great get for the program. GO DUKES!!

Basketball Recruiting » Dukes Sign Grant » 5/01/2022 9:40 pm

I would have to project Tre Williams as the starting center if he is fully recovered from his injury. This is not the ideal situation for me but I can't see any of the other freshman bigs holding down that position. Still hoping for a better alternative.

Men's Basketball » St. Bonaventure and the Transfer Portal » 4/29/2022 4:12 pm

It's a very sad state of affairs. My favorite college sport and maybe my overall favorite and it's come to this. If I didn't care so much about the game, I would just chuck it all and watch the Pirates lose 100 games!

Men's Basketball » Hima in Portal » 4/27/2022 3:48 pm

I can see the last few posters point about Hima. I know that he won't be ready this next season to start at the 5 but I really do see the potential there. Could he have developed more quickly with different coaching? Will he become the player that many on this board believe that he will? We really won't ever know the answer to the first question and the second question will remain unanswered for the time being. Things being what they are, I can see the same thinking as with Pratt. KD needs players to deliver NOW not a year from now. So Hima fell victim to the circumstances surrounding the program currently. Let's get a stud 5 in here who can be plugged in and contribute NOW! GO DUKES!

Men's Basketball » Hima in Portal » 4/26/2022 11:02 pm

Should we assume that another big is on the way?

This one really ticks me off. It didn't have to be. Hima will be a solid player somewhere with the right development by the coaching staff. Mark my words!

With all due respect, isn’t there a story out there about a chicken and the sky falling? We knew a roster makeover was taking place. We know we have six commits. We know DU announces recruiting classes together. I don’t think the sky has fallen yet.

Oh Gee, another roster of newcomers who have never played together. Can't wait to hear Dambrot call it (all together now.......)  his best and most talented roster yet!

Let's hope that this time it turns out to be true!!

Men's Basketball » A10 Coaching Carousel » 4/25/2022 7:29 pm

I do love to see justice served!! Jay Wright and Will Wade. Bigger difference than night vs. day!!
Really sorry to see JW leaving the coaching ranks. Totally class act from everything I've seen and as a coach there was no one better IMO!!
