Maybe these are not mutually exclusive arguments. Certainly both can be true. What makes Duquesne different...a losing record for most of the past 40 years sure doesn't help. If I'm another coach, the easy line is, "They haven't won regularly there forever, they're never going to. Come play for a winner. It's more fun." How do you counter that?

Not sure of the reasons why but today's young people, and a lot of older ones, feel very little loyalty to schools or coaches and sometimes friends, family, or even faith. Everything is transactional. Retaining players, students, employees, congregants, etc. is extremely difficult in 2022 and ideas on how to do it, I'm afraid, miss more often than they hit. If anyone has a magic bullet for retention, don't share it here. Market it and retire.

Z excellent points touching more than just basketball

Can you imagine a similar story about Duquesne basketball 😱 such a story would be the equivalent to reading Tolstoys War & Peace.  Can you recall the people who have contributed to the Dukes 45 years without a bid to the Big Dance. Clearly any comments would constitute the longest thread in history regarded this board.

Man of Iron, terrific, I had to laugh when you mentioned war and Peace which is quite the saga... I was sort of thinking the same thing when I saw the article in the Post-Gazette about Pitt

I had season tickets the last couple years. I was taking my son. It was a bonding event. I don't know how you can keep interested in this. It's terrible.

I think one thing among many that is sad is that here you have a guy with that Duquesne connection through his father. What a story it would make. I can remember sitting in Palumbo in year 2 talking to a fellow fan who was more or less stating that in 3 years they were going to be something. I think a lot of people felt that way at that time. I really haven't had the time to pay attention all these comments and I know this has probably been addressed but last year with covid and the transfer of sincere carry was a huge blow. Yes, everybody had to deal with covid but I think that the Duke's really were knocked off by the virus and that kind of set things up for where we are now. Obviously, let's not forget the two years ago they played dating on to the wire at the Consol and then a few weeks later covid came in and that was the end. The following year just never got any traction.

Correction Dayton

I'm sorry I'm so fair weather. I love Duquesne and my roots go very deeply with that institution and that neighborhood. Nonetheless, here we go again. Pathetic, only 19 points in the first half.

Two articles this week in the Tribune on Duquesne/Dambrot.   Kind of same old words.  What I didn’t like is Dambrot’s insistence on how hard the job is and it’s not easy to win at Duquesne.  He got his building, his players,  his coaches, his salary.  If it is hard to win today, that is on the COACH!

If it was easy; they wouldn’t have offered him $1-million per year; but why make this point specifically about Duquesne being a tough place to win?  Why not take a few lines of print to list some of the many positive features that Duquesne can offer?  He’s not exactly acting on the best interest of his own program when he makes these comments.  The guy needs a PR man to edit this stuff before it hits the press.

Very good points about how these comments are counter productive.

Dambrot has thus far failed.  After next year...and we still need to give him that last year, we need again...another coach...someone who can Recruit And Coach.

It comes down to the recruiting. He can't sniff a legitimate big guy. The big guy from Dayton was killing us. Then look at the Fordham game, same thing. I like Tre Williams but I never bought Dambrot's claim that he was better than Michael Hughes. The 5 year plan hasn't succeeded

Obvious, but can we at least have a "guy"? The last guy we had was Aaron Jackson. Can anyone suggest there was truly another besides Norman Nixon up to Jackson. A guy that could take the game over. I don't think so.

Rayrich n Phil, accurate assessment. Rotroff is the key yo a successful season. Played a nice game Saturday and always puts his heart into it. I also thought Acuff stuck out. Fir a guard he's got nice size. I think he had about 5 or 6 rebound.

I myself have noticed how bad these local guys are with the Dukes. Ellis Canon must have an ax to grind, definitely. We got a win. I was there with my son, but you gotta win

Sorry to belabor the point about these stupid opening game balls. I saw a line of people going out and I stopped someone who told me what was going on. It was only 3 or 4 games late and many who attended had no clue. It's just another reflection of the administrations poor approach to the program. Thanks Father Nesti
