I'm not going to overreact this recruiting quote. In any sport it is customary to be humble and gracious in your comments as a coach leading up to a game against a team that has for years been the class of your conference/league/division. Actions speak louder than words and KD and the boys beat Dayton at the Coop last time out so I will put more stock in that than anything KD says. I choose to view the quote as a subtle jab at the Dayton coach and players. Maybe he's saying, "You guys have the better recruits and I still beat you." Since I am at the home games, I haven't listened on the radio. When I turned it on to leave, the Steeler Game is on. I thought it was on 970 AM? If the Steeler Game is on, then what station can you listen? 104.7 HD So in newer cars the radios have 2 options for a station. If you tune to 104.7 and then select the HD option you will get the game. It took me a minute to figure out - prior to that i had no idea what an HD channel was. and I've never listened to the game this way; I've only caught the postgame after leaving the Coop Also 970 on IHeart Radio carries the Dukes except that they left the KD interview early for whatever was left of the Steelers broadcast. Not feel comfortable posting here? On this board? Why, how could that possibly be? I attended the game and could offer a lot of criticism from my brand new seats in the fan corner looking down at Dave Harper sitting in the corner. And I hope they ask us for things that need to improve at the Cooper because there are many and I could list them. But I trust that they are learning. I'd be happy with "play like Fred Moon" I am a season ticket holder for four years. and I have not received one communication from the ticket office since Covid began. I received nothing about the opening of the Coop back in January and nothing about the recent tour and chance to pick your seats. Zilch! Nada! Tejas, likewise I really thought the Athletic Department had turned the corner and we were beyond this Mickey Mouse/Run on the Cheap/ "We've always done it this way" business as usual kind of stuff. Great strides have been made, true, but this still irritates me! Not one contact! Just to be clear, I did not have a chance there to pick a seat. In fact I was told my seat would be assigned. They did provide the opportunity to sign up for season tickets, however. I signed up for tickets in that 201-205 section, there are only like 3 rows, and you say the first one is crampied, I'm 6'2'' with bad knees, so that might make me try for 2nd-3rd row. I couldnt make it yesterday, wanted to check out that section. But any info is good, thanks. I'm about 5'11" and I found the row cramped behind a see through partition. I found the seat a bit tight too but then I'm overweight. I sat in the next row and it seemed better. After attending yesterday's open house, the Coop will be a great place to watch basketball. A lot of positives, not the least of which was the staff who were around to talk to. Some people make the goofiest comments ever on this board about this coach. Wildwood, why don't you go back and enjoy reminiscing about the good old days when Duquesne was playing some great basketball with powerhouse rosters under guys like Scott Edgar, Darrelle Porter and Danny Nee, That was some fun years, man. Let's not forget that defensive whiz, Jim Ferry. I didn't care if they made the A10 tournament. I was just happy when they reached double figures in wins. And ad hominem and straw man attacks don't improve the level of discourse here. No one denies the good things Dambrot (also Harper and Gormley) have done and the strides this program has made, so spare us that. Some people are asking some good questions and seeking answers. I made the point about going back to square one because of team chemistry, and once again we have a group of strangers who haven't played together and hoping they gell fast. Year five and a lot of the players this coach has recruited have left, and there should be questions about that. Saying we want to call UBMC and buy out Jim Ferry? Puh-leez! I’m now convinced that anything I may have thought about keeping Coach Dambrot and the long history Duquesne has in seeing coach after coach “succeed” is wrong. I mean 5 seasons of finally getting more wins than loses is enough, man (straw man?)! I don't know how many of you have been around since Duquesne lost to UNC in NCAA 1969 or last made the NCAA tourney in 1977 (or if any of you are still paying attention to this now long thread). I am one who saw the loss to UNC and all that happened since. I agree Mulder 100%. Look at what KD has accomplished under very adverse circumstances. He inherited a team that only won three games. In his first year he has a break even season, followed by a 19 win season, and then a 21 win season. Some may disagree, but I still believe that last year has to be counted as a mulligan year for KD. KD had no home court, no summer work outs, horrible practice facilities, shut down by covid three times, and the loss I don't know how many of you have been around since Duquesne lost to UNC in NCAA 1969 or last made the NCAA tourney in 1977 (or if any of you are still paying attention to this now long thread). I am one who saw the loss to UNC and all that happened since. He will be missed. Rest in peace Duq81. Back in the day, the school newspaper printed a story about a 7’4 “ recruit from China. I fell for it. Anybody remember? My point, if any, is that I read this board for six months and nothing happens ; now, we’re signing a kid a day, or so it seems. April fools? Chin Tsu Wang Agree with all. Let’s just keep praying Prayers to St. Jude for healing Duq81. Nothing is impossible. . . I'm also an alum of both. Pitt can shove it. I am massively disappointed in the size of this crowd. 1. Keep winning and get to the tournament I understand there is a gofundme page established to assist the Austin family with expenses. I believe the link is: Not a student athlete by any means, but even when I went there during the Dark Ages, everyone was impressed that I was going to a terrific school like Duquesne. And that was before all the rankings that have come out recently by various magazines and organizations. Not saying Duquesne is Ivy League but it has been and is considered a better school than - well - many - not to denigrate someone by naming specific schools. Unless a school is truly elite, it's always going to have more juice in it's backyard than somewhere else, mostly because a local school is going to have their alums among the folks doing the hiring and firing in the area. Thus Duquesne, Pitt, and Penn St. degrees will be worth more in Pittsburgh than in say Dallas, or Seattle. Didn't mean to imply that I didn't understand that. Not a student athlete by any means, but even when I went there during the Dark Ages, everyone was impressed that I was going to a terrific school like Duquesne. And that was before all the rankings that have come out recently by various magazines and organizations. Anyone know where this can be viewed other than in person? This morning's paper also says ESPN3 (different? online I think right?) In recent seasons Dayton has clearly been a better program than Duquesne and KD was speaking from many years of experience recruiting in Ohio against Dayton - both at Akron and now Duquesne. If his experience has shown him the recruits always choose Dayton over his schools than I have no problem with him making this remark. And I think it has very very little to do with his and his staff's ability to recruit. It's not like Wake Forest is pulling in recruits over Duke and North Carolina. The good recruits always choose the better programs. Beat Dayton tomorrow and that's 2 in a row and something to sell to the recruits next time around but for now I'd rather him not waste his time and resources chasing a player his vast experience has taught him he is unable to get.
BRAVO!

I also saw a team that is still learning how to play with each other in game action. I’m not an expert analyst like all of you but everything from Easley’s fumble at the end to Johnson’s timeout (no I don’t think coach didn’t know and no I think Johnson knew - he’s a freshman who panicked) to Williams poor man’s Mike Hughes.
No I didn’t make any predictions for a trip to McKeesport. Was born there and lived there and still go there sometimes but that’s not the reason (wouldn’t want a trip to Glassport or Port Vue either).
Bottom line: I am disappointed but didn’t expect to see domination of anything anytime soon. I still trust Harper. I still trust Gormley. Even more, I still trust Dambrot. I still think he knows exactly what he is doing. Men's Basketball » New Look Rotroff » 8/11/2021 8:39 am

When we played at RMU they had a similar section with the first row behind a partition and it seemed tight in the same way. But overall you will probably like the view of the court there.
Men's Basketball » Touring the Coop » 7/29/2021 6:49 am
Intended to take one of the tours but found it easier to just walk around, latch onto one tour or another when they came near and otherwise just explore. The photos people have already seen are better than anything I could post so I won't though I took a lot. Not sure where to begin.
First, there is a lot of the old AJP in the new building. If you were able to look around when they renovated the coaches offices and workout areas when Ron was coach you would see that. But overall the place is brighter where it needs to be with much more of an atmosphere of something special.
There does not appear to be a bad seat in the house. I have seats in one of the fan corners and I tried each of them out. May have to do a little leaning in here and there depending on which fan corner seat you have but they should be a great place to watch a game because everything will essentially unfold in front of you. I was under the assumption that ticket holders would be able to pick their seats but I think mine are assigned. I asked and was told there would be a separate event for ticket holders later in the year.
The suites may be the most interesting look. Seats are obviously high but it's a good look at the court. Suites seem to have typical amenities for seating, food, etc. that you might expect and are a decent size.
Just below the suites is the Club area which will be open to premium seat holders. However, the size may limit other premium seats like fan corner ticket holders from getting in there as those in the seats in front have first choice. In front of the club area seating is another premium section (labeled 201 to 205 - didn't see any other designation there). Again, the view is terrific though the seats in the first row are a bit cramped.

People make comments here and are offended by pushback. Why?? Wild man writes a War and Peace type post making many claims and does not want ANY push back. People make statements like they don't like the coach and he is a putz...and never come back to those statements. Marcus needs work just to be a good A10 backup...Ellis and Kelly are stars...MB sucks...and on and on and never write or say "oops....got that wrong", or he really improved beyond my expectations. You can criticize Hughes, TDM and MB but guys who leave are off limits. Graduating from DU or staying does not get you more respect than taking your ball and going home?? You state that they are back at square one. Most would disagree. If they prove better than KD's first team will you be back and say you were wrong?? We shall see.Men's Basketball » Jett Roesing Transfers » 6/05/2021 6:27 am
After this season when we finally get rid of the million dollar man I’ll bet we could convince Coach K (too lazy to spell his name) to come out of retirement and coach another team with “Duke” as part of its name. He’d be near his buddy at Pitt and they could go out for coffee or something. And with our track record he wouldn’t have to stay that long anyway before we let him finally retire.
If that doesn’t work the job will be attractive enough that we could probably get Coach Williams as an alternative!
Yeah, that’s it. Coaching problem solved! You can now close out this thread while I add: Men's Basketball » Chad Baker leaving... » 4/22/2021 1:00 pm

Keith Dambrot is the best coach we have had here since Red Manning (maybe except for Mike Rice though he certainly wasn't perfect). He is in the best position to get Duquesne back. He has the support of a solid AD in Harper and a top President in Gormley. The difference now is the transfer portal and the transfer mess created in part by the pandemic.
Might there be a time when I would agree that the problem is Keith Dambrot? Sure - no one is perfect. But that would take many more years after what should be a contract extension assuming he accepts. Why? Because I have lived long enough to see the freaking mess that Duquesne basketball has been over the years with coach after coach and AD after AD and President after President all failing in ways large and small. And the situation now is even more complicated. This is the best Duquesne has looked both academically and athletically in many many years.
If Baker was creating problems (like some that we saw with the T's) then he should go. If it was KD's choice then I applaud him for taking control, for being in charge, for not accepting someone challenging his system.
Again, Keith Dambrot's contract should be extended. And you can end this thread now.Men's Basketball » Chad Baker leaving... » 4/22/2021 7:31 am

2. Let the students, once they start coming, name their group not a bunch of old folks (assuming they don't like red and blue crew)
3. When you are talking give aways - have the cheerleaders throw t shirts, balls, etc. to students in attendance or the kids in the stands - the old folks don't need them. Catch a shirt? Find a kid in the stands to give it to. You can buy one somewhere - bet you have enough saved somewhere to afford it.
4. If students aren't there, we still are. Old folks get out of your seats at games and cheer - when we start cheering it's loud. But we don't all do it (maybe the loudest need to sit together to get others standing and cheering). Do it all the time. Maybe we need an adult version of the Crew (bring back the Sheiks)? We are at a game with a winning team not a funeral. Remember what it was like when Mossie stood up across the arena and shouted "are you ready"? Well, are you? He's still there somewhere watching.
