Kareem Rozier led Winthrop to the Big South final. They lost in the final to High Point, but Kareem put up 22 points and amazingly had 7 rebounds too.
Queens won the A-Sun Championship to go to the Big Dance for the first time. I still can't believe a team in their fourth year in Division 1 took the Dukes to overtime, but it doesn't look quite as bad now.
Now Noah Buono is on the mic for the Summit League Championship between North Dakota and North Dakota State. I never heard him on radio with Ray, but I know there were a lot of complaints here about those calls. I thought he did a good job in limited opportunity on TV with Benz, but this is a big step up either way.
FWIW, I like Noah on the radio. His frustration came from calling road games remotely.

They could’ve thrown in the towel long ago… the fight that is continued to be shown by this group after extreme disappointment throughout the season is surprising and admirable.
100% agree. I remember when the first round games of A10 women were on campus sites and DU beat URI badly. You could tell the URI team didn’t care from minute one.

Great comeback win. 60-52. On to day two and St Joes I believe.

It woukd have been so easy for Coach Burt and the staff to lose the team after the 0-12 start. But they kept their heads up. That’s encouraging.

Duq Blu, I agree with just about everything you said EXCEPT when I see Robert Morris hockey n basketball covered more than Duquesne. Also, and it has been this way for years, since Pitt is bigger they get more coverage (I understand) and when the papers were stronger over the last 15 years Duquesnes coverage has been poor.
That I put on their media department. When I hear college hockey n other basketball scores… someone from DU needs to form a relationship with these folks.
I am also being polite.
I agree with this. The Fan will definitely crap their pants in praise when Robert Morris does anything. All that belling aching when they dropped hockey. Then brought it back. And their hockey attendance is still horrible.

Scoreboard watching today-- Davidson at Dayton (4PM/ESPN2). I'm looking for Davidson to get the win, I guess, since we have Davidson at home and Dayton on the road coming up. We went from a 3-way tie for 5th to a 3-way tie for 4th at the end of today. Progress! I really think a 3-way tie for 3rd is not out of the question for us either. It's really fun to be in the mix.
Yes we need Davidson to win that. George Mason seems to be in free fall their spot can open up as well.

This is NOT a political comment or said in anger…
Folks have been asking about coverage of players with injuries, who is in the “dog house” and the press or lack of that we get. Just some thoughts n facts n again not in anger…
1. The PG is folding n going out of business. I am surprised they still cover DU.
2. The Trib has always been the most consistent, with the best coverage, with the same person. And no… neither paper sends anyone to away DU games.
3. Every few years the PG gave DU coverage to a brand new person. It’s almost like it was a punishment.
4. We are fortunate that Dave M. has been the DU reporter for years with the Trib, as we are lucky to have Zac W. Both do a nice job.
5. Last night during the sports report Duquesne was not even mentioned on channel 11 and is often NOT mentioned on 93.7!sports.
-My lowly opinion is Duquesne STILL needs to improve their sports information department in contacting TV n radio. Do they even have someone who is supposed to be doing that? This is a serious question. I really don’t know but over the years it has been poor.
Now that they are doing better maybe tv/radio coverage will be better. Mostly what I see n read is how poor Pitt is doing. How about how well Duquesne is doing!! Come on Mr. Harper, get on this.
Go Dukes!
I am being polite here but what do you want them to do? 93.7 The Fan is 95% Steeler talk, 2% Pirate, 2% Pitt and 1% Penguins.
Traditional newspaper coverage as we know it doesn’t exist.
Local tv sports departments are a shadow of once they used to be. Half hour newscast used to be 25 minutes and 5 minutes of commercials. Now it’s 20 minutes and 10 minutes of commercials.
Pitt is doing so bad the Fan has ignored their basketball season.
You can’t force people to cover you.

Thanks for calling attention to the Pep Band. I had to support them; it’s good to have an engaged pep band at the games.
Thank you!

With 6 hours remaining, DU has raised over $854K. Which breaks the al time day of giving record. Hopefully, we can get to $1 million.

Time my friends to open the wallets, if you are able. I plan on splitting my donation between MBB, WBB and the Pep
Band who want uniforms. Please give and designate the team or group you wish. Go Dukes.

I am as well. But people never rush on to post when they win. If they lost, the thread would be 2 pages long by now.

| Women's basketball » Loss to St Bonaventure at home! » 1/10/2026 10:45 pm |
I agree with everything Mike R has said. Jerni’s leaving hurt, but with the exception of Davidson they could have won every other A-10 game.
I don’t like posting here anymore because everything is so negative. When I tried to explain that I didn’t think the men’s program and Coach Dru should be held to such high standards (because the tournament team went on a lucky run to end the season….good teams need to be lucky) people jumped down my throat.
The women have not had a season like this in over 20 years. Give them some grace. I still watch and support them.

I wonder if a DU player was ever rookie of the week three times in any season. She deserves actual player of the week at some point.

Actually I don’t think she was that good of a coach. She always had a late season stumble at DU that kept us out of the tournament in two seasons particularly.
She made the NCAA tournament with Pitt one year
on a 9-7 ACC record and 20-12 record. That was her second season there. Duquesne easily beat them that year. They got in with a late season upset of a ranked North Carolina team. There only good win of the season. Duquesne was in the mix for at large bud under Burt that season.
SMS was hired by Scott Barnes and fired during AD change with Heather Lyke. Lyke hired Lance White and was she was also fired a year or so ago.
She found a post player Monica Wignot (who tragically died a few years ago) who switched during last year of eligibility from volleyball to basketball. Her other 4 ACC seasons had 3, 4, 4 and 2 wins and well under 500 overall.
They fired her after season 5. Lance White was there 5 years with an actually worse record than SMS. He beat DU once. Verdi who is working with a new AD that didn’t hire him is underperforming Lance White now. It’s his is third year and he may go 0-18 in the ACC. You can just watch his team and see they aren’t D1 caliber let alone ACC caliber.

8 out of the last 11 against Pitt. And 3 in a row vs Pitt. Pitt coach will be gone after this season. The curse of SMS continues. Lol
It is amazing with all their resources how bad they are in women’s bb. They lost to a D3 team this year and very low level D1 teams.I was sure that had to have been a typo, but it's not. Either way, I'll take any win over Pitt.
I remember watching the presser when Verdi was hired at Pitt from UMass. Someone asked him if he would play Duquesne in the future. He said something like “Yes I’m not afraid of them & I have beaten them.” And the room cracked up.
Verdi is 0-3 vs Duquesne. And probably won’t get another chance to beat them.
Honestly three years in to this and Verdi has a roster on maybe 25% D1 caliber players. Still don’t understand how that can happen.
