Nice addition to the schedule.  Got to think this is a home and home series.

Thanks Phoenix.  It probably doesn't matter if the new transfer rules pass as the NCAA has probably already set a precedent by granting all the waivers for players under the current rules.

Thanks Phoenix.  Wouldn't that be a big boost for the DU Program?

Thanks, CLK. In the article, this paragraph jumped out at me as being very important:
“Because of the academic requirements involved it will be difficult to transfer more than once as an undergrad. Incoming transfers have to be guaranteed financial aid for the five-year window of eligibility.”

The article didn’t explain what those academic requirements are; nor did they explain the guaranteed financial aid responsibility put on schools who accept transfers.

I didn't get it either.  Probably doesn't matter as academic standards will be the next thing to be waived.  Revenue sharing brought about by collective bargaining would spell the end for many smaller schools I'm afraid.  Revenues for smaller schools are barely sufficient to cover costs in many cases.  Big changes are coming.  Soon we will have a collegiate pro league with their own so called governing body, with smaller schools having their own association or dropping athletic scholarship sports.

With all the resources available to players these days you have to be really bad to flunk out. There was another article where the coach talked about Baker running stairs during the summer last year after he transferred instead of taking summer sessions. I was surprised that the coach talked openly about him flunking out

Phil, good to see some actual discussion about the Dukes on this Board.  I share your question on how KD will manage so many talented players on this team.  I am hearing some really good things about the local kid Devin Carney.  Dambrot has stated that he is one of their best shooters and ball handlers.  My guess is that he will see significant minutes.  His ability to adjust and defend at the D1 level will determine how much he will play.  I think we will see a lot of three guard offense this year, although players like Easley, Gunn and Hronsky ability to shoot and play the SF gives KD more options.  I hope Dambrot can figure out his best line up and rotation quickly and not be experimenting during conference play.  We have 5 grad students on the roster so I would hope it is just a matter of tweaking.

On another note, Tristan Freeman published the attached article below providing offseason grades for each team.   I know there are a lot of good guys on this Board that don't post but read this Board for information.  I have decided not to let the posters that use this board to chronically just vent and add nothing to the conversation ruin it for the others (Phil in no way do I include you in that group).  All constructive replies, analysis or thoughts are certainly welcome.

I really can't imagine anyone on this board posting predictions about the upcoming season. Most of us made absolute fools of ourselves doing so last season. I will certainly not be participating in that nonsense this time around. I really have no preconceived thoughts on this team anyway. After what happened last year, I will wait until I see this team on the court for at least 7 or 8 games before I utter a word of speculation. And then I will choose my words very carefully! Call it a case of shell shock if you want but these are my only thoughts on the 22-23 season. GO DUKES!!

I post things on this board that I think fans might find interesting, not to make them upset.  I think I will stop sharing.  You guys can dig out your own information about the Dukes.

Not having Dae Dae Grant on this list was the red flag for me. I have the feeling that KD, unlike Ferry, does not kowtow to Rothstein causing some understandable negative bias towards the Dukes. I would surmise if Dambrot invited Rothstein in for a practice and took him to breakfast at Pamela's, the Dukes would have a player or two on the list and would be slated to finish 11th or 12th.  Certainly a motivating ranking for the Dukes.

I agree Phoenix.  I don't know what to expect for the Dukes and the A10 as so many teams are rebuilding. I do know there is real, seasoned and proven talent on this team.  I watched Dae Dae play against Clemson and Georgia Tech and this kid can score against any team.  I don't know what criteria Rothstein used to define an impact player, but Grant will make a big impact in this League.  I know Dambrot won't say that this is the best team he has had at Duquesne, but when you look at this roster we will most likely start three grad students and two 4th year players all of whom can score in double digits.  We will also have a deeper stronger bench. I do not see the Dukes in last place.  Is it enough to win the League?  I wouldn't bet on it.  Is it enough to get us to the top half of the League?   Unknown.

I think it is safe to say that if Dambrot has a losing season again next year after this second rebuild, or reboot as he calls it, he needs to resign or be fired.  The threshold should be 8th or above for him to be retained. If he can't do that than what's the point of keeping him if our goal is to win championships?  I really and truly hope he can do it.  I think the talent is there to do it.

Dambrot believes this will be a fun season. I sure hope so.

I agree Ironduke. The world of athletics has changed never to be the same as we remember, Harper is forward thinking.  I like his comment that those involved need to adjust and adapt.  DU seems to be ahead of this process.

This is a really good interview giving some good insight into scheduling, transfer and NILs.  If you have 14 minutes well worth the listen.  One thing I learned is that a NIL can be arranged, and the kid can be a walk on instead of a scholarship player.

TSeveral of my questions were answered.  Rotroff and Gunn will be back.  The only player not mentioned in the interview was Abdy Barba, may jut=st have been an oversight or not. The podcast was recorded before the Reece news broke.

Econ69, looking at the tweet from DUMBB yesterday it shows Gunn #21 in the workouts.  We have seen Dambrot work his scholarship magic before with more than 13 players appearing to be on scholarship.  Several years ago, I remember reading about a St. Joe grad student giving up his athletic scholarship and remaining on the team.  I have asked this question once before, but never received clarification if this is an option for graduate players with remaining eligibility today.  In any event with have a good Compliance Officer and if we have what "appears" to be more than 13 scholarship players on the roster when the season starts, we will be within the rules.
