Offline 2015-16 NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE Last edited by godukes1970 (6/29/2015 1:23 pm) Offline Thanks for posting. The Dukes need to pull at least 9 wins out of this schedule...Seaton Hill, NO, MVS, UMBC, SF, SCS, RMU a must, and two wins in Gulf Coast Tourney. No more excuses! Offline Seton HILL? Girls school? Offline Seton HILL? Girls school? Seton Hill University became a co-ed college in 2002. In order to attract male students, the university's recruting strategy was to add several male sports, including football, to its array of sports offered. The Griffins' men's basketball team's (D-2) first season was 2003-2004. Last season was the first for Seton Hill in the PA State Athletic Conference where it joined with 17 other universities as a full-time member. Offline Duquesne releases 2015 non-conference schedule Last edited by CLK (6/29/2015 5:09 pm) Offline I don't even count games vs D2 schools. Win those 8 games vs D1 schools. If they can beat PSU, that will be a successful ooc season. Offline 81 I always said Amodio wasn't a wartime consigliere. I absolutely agree we need an AD who is strong, a leader, and who has a vision. Offline ED although I hate to say this I can not disagree with your assessment. The reduction of the shot clock will do nothing in my eyes than validate some of the one pass or no pass shot selection that seems so much a part of our offense. I also see little evidence of a desire to move away from the zone as a matter of fact I hear more coaches talking zone because of the shot clock?? My bright spot is the trip since no matter the competition more practice time hopefully will pay dividends. Offline December 12 at St. Francis. It's a Saturday and one can have fun at Seven Springs or other places in the Laurel Mountains. Used to have a lot of fun, it can be a nice weekend. Also, is the Robert Morris Game later than usual? maybe Duquesne play them better with more games under Duquesne's belt. Offline ED, I can't remember any hype around Winters, White, or Stevens. Most on the board always look at JC guys with a jaundiced eye, and Winters was a late recruit who actually was better than expected. The two players who were hyped were Robinson, and Watkins. I have high hopes for Castro because he was highly rated coming out of high school, and was well regarded enough to be signed by Brad Stevens, one of the best coaches in college ball. Butler was a train wreck after Stevens left, so I don't hold Castro's freshman year against him. Offline Think about all the summer league glory stories. We don't get any media coverage, much less hype. Offline Think about all the summer league glory stories. We don't get any media coverage, much less hype. Castro did tear the summer league up last year. Even the Pitt folks were impressed. Can he play D though. There's no question we can score, but improvement on the other end is the key to our season. Offline Defense, free throw shooting, shot selection, rotation, depth, rebounding ... Offline I wonder why Gallaudet was not asked. What an embarrassment. They have no shame. These wins won't do anything for us in getting into a postseason tournament. No wonder students don't go. Hey let's go see New Orleans because I heard the Privateers are a force to be reckon with . . . if it were the War of 1812.

"Seton Hill is a Division II team and, with a 7-19 record last season, not a very good one. Though Robert Morris has beaten the Dukes in their past five meetings, the Colonials lost two of their top players from last year (Lucky Jones and Marcquise Reed) and they typically don't get rolling until conference play gets started. Then there are the four teams -- New Orleans, Mississippi Valley State, UMBC and South Carolina State -- that finished last season ranked among the 50 worst teams in Division I by KenPom.com"
"Duquesne can't afford a repeat of what happened last year, when it went 5-6 against a slate KenPom ranked as the 18th-easiest in Division I. This schedule, at the very least, holds the potential for improvement in a season where progress is expected."
Re: Dukes' Men's Non-Conference Schedule Released
By the way, why the hell are we playing SFU 1 for 1? That is idiotic. You make them come here 2-3 times for every time we go there. I hope the new AD has a clue, and puts an end to such nonsense. We've never played them home and home before.
Re: Dukes' Men's Non-Conference Schedule Released
I see Seton Hill is a must-play for the Florida tournament. OK, I get that. Not happy but what can you do?
I'm torn between the softness of the schedule and the lack of confidence I still have in the program. Last year we returned four starters, a senior and three juniors, and Danny and the Juniors could have beaten us and still sung the National Anthem. At least what's left of the band. This year we return three seniors and a junior. Gill has a ton of experience if you plug him into the lineup. I know a lot of people have high expectations for Castro, but you're the same folks who told me Winters, White and Stevens were going to knock my socks off. And that Robinson was a beast. So, I'll make my own judgments about Castro, Jackson, and whoever else cracks the lineup this season.
As much as Colter has improved, Mason took a big step backwards last year, mainly because he was played out of position. And Colter is really not more than a serviceable PG, especially if you face any pressure. Not a knock because I think he gives you every ounce. Jones continues to scare me because for every decent game he gives you he contributes to a 10-0 run for the other team with bad shot selection, bad defense, bad fouls and bad turnovers. Then he gets rewarded with more playing time and I'm sticking sharp #2 pencils in my ear to relieve the pressure.
Honestly, I expect this team to win 5-6 games against this schedule. I just see more of the same with the same cast this year: Jones on one of his excruciating streaks, Gill launching bombs, Colter trying to do too much. No bigs rebounding. Yadda yadda yadda.
Put me down for 5 wins, and a disappearance around Christmas. But I'll try to keep my mind open and hope for the best. I'm sure I'll get blasted by some posters for this, but you know what? No one has ANY evidence at this point that I'm wrong. It's not hanging crepe paper, it's reality. I don't even know what crepe paper is, or why one would hang it, anyway.
