Colgate pummels George Mason by 13.
James Madison crushes Richmond by 12.
EC Mathews leaves with a knee injury for URI.
Offline
Apparently Matthews' injury was a non contact knee injury where he crumpled over in immense pain per reports.

I saw halftime scores and the GWU-Lafayette score was virtually the same as DU's. Haven't seen finals yet.
Knee injuries are tough, especially the non-contact ones. Wish the young man a full recovery.

matthews will be out for the season with torn acl.

How bad is George Mason? They lost by 9 to Mercer.

We may have a defensive problem but Rhode Island is in a world of trouble without Matthews.
Valpo is good but URI has 29 points midway thru the 2nd half.
They have a 6 man rotation now. The other two guys who entered today's game have contributes nothing but 1 foul.

URI is a totally different team without Matthews. They are in a world of trouble.
Loss to Valpo.

BTW that was a home game for GW and it was played in their gym not the Verizon Center.

That's because GW is smart. Meanwhile, we are going to play PSU in a completely empty Consol when we might have had a decent sized crowd in the Palumbo Center. As I have said many times in the past, Palumbo can be a tremendous venue. We need to make it that way. The Smith Center only seats 5000, which is barely more than Palumbo. Intimate and loud college hoops environments are the best.

Yes but, if you bow out of one of your limited appearances at Consol in the near term, you might just find yourself without a major venue in the future, just in case that the program finally gets well. Would you walk away from the accommodations there? If the program has any aspirations to get back to respectability, it makes sense to have a second home bigger than Palumbo.
Offline
I agree with having the second venue for huge games, but only absolutely HUGE games. I'm talking BCS Powers. Again, GW played the 6th ranked team in a 5000 seat venue. You have to give props to UVA for taking the game, as I know most wouldn't but still. I remember the last Pitt game at Palumbo. It was incredible, even though we lost. It hasn't been the same since.
Offline
Simms, the CEC is a huge recruiting tool. We would be dumb not to play occasional games there.
Offline
I'm so sick and tired of the BS about the Consol being a recruiting tool. What has it done for us. We are their ONLY choice. Pitt will never move a game there and neither will RMU.
Offline
It's totally a recruiting tool. They take all the recruits there during their visits and show them the Duquesne locker room. 18 year old kids like the idea of playing in a big nba style arena. I think that's pretty obvious.

Dukes tell yourself that all you want believe me the facts don't support it. Besides there is no NBA team within about a 100 miles. Do you think it's going to matter when on Friday we have a minimum deficit of 2:1 if not higher in fan support. Will it matter someday I hope It does, now? Far more smoke than fire.

These are the same small thinkers who whined and cried about playing Dayton there last year. We sent them home with a loss. I want a big time program, like the one I watched when I was a kid. Go big, or go home!

Duq81, you're right, you need to go big, That locker room thing probably means a lot more than some might think. It represents a path back to true major college basketball. Without knowing for sure, I would bet that every player Duquesne is recruiting gets that tour.
It would be insipid to not play in that venue.

Why isn't GW moving conference games to the Verizon Center?
I would think that if this school of thought was the best way to go, I'd see GW, Richmond, St Joes, St. Louis, etc moving games off campus. Not happening.
