U-Mass

Did U-Mass just cost the A-10 a bid?  Other than Dayton who else has the resume to get in.

That was kind of a shocker. I still think we get at least two and maybe three. I could see someone like st. Joes winning the A-10 tournament and getting a third bid

Re: U-Mass

Anyone who thought Sunday was going to be a easy game may have to rethink it. I agree St. Joe's has a pretty good shot. Dayton or St. Joe's winning the A-10 could very well hold it to 2 bids.

Re: U-Mass

Mass. looked sooooo tough last night against VCU.

Re: U-Mass

UMass is still an RPI 177 team. They played the same kind of game Duquesne did for the first 35 minutes against Dayton, but they held on at home. This doesn't suddenly make them a great team. Should be a team that the Dukes beat, especially at the Palumbo.

Agree. We haven't lost to a bad team all year. Now is not the time to start.

Re: U-Mass

81 I would agree with you but they do present some match ups that could be problematic.  IMHO I see every game the rest of the year as 50/50 propositions.

Re: U-Mass

Dome,
I agree.  It would be wonderful if we can go on a run.  This Sunday is going to be vital.  Playing the Bonnies up there is extremely difficult but based on how we competed against Dayton, we can...but let's see if we will.  First is this Sunday.

Re: U-Mass

FAM the saddest thing about this season is just how close the Duke's were to breaking through. I'm not just talking about more wins than loses I'm looking at real significant growth. All those who term us as haters just look back at what could have been. Maybe then you'll really understand the frustration and the tiring of moral victories.

I see were Pomeroy has Rhode Island / Dayton game up their as a near toss up with a slight nod to the home team.

You guys are way too low right now.  In case you guys didn't know, there was a mock-NCAA selection a selection committee comprised of 20 media members yesterday and today.  The field of 68 can be found at https://twitter.com/NYPost_Brazille/status/698171132508147712 .  It had five A10 teams selected (note:  They had St Bona winning the A10 tourney for the 5th team, so don't plan on five bids).

S-curve results from the media members that came out today.
#14 Dayton
#37 GW
#38 St Joe's
#40 VCU

This counts VCU's loss yesterday too...

Re: U-Mass

Rog I my be misreading the post but I think the mock selection was done by the media. I can't see the selection committee ever showing their hand. Both ESPN & CBS have 3 teams in. There is absolutely no way they will see 4 or 5 IMO. The bottom feeders who have pulled several big upsets and they carry horrible RPI's. Both Syracuse & Florida St. are said to be on the bubble at 37 & 43 respectively in a league where the 14th rated team (Virginia Tech) is 116.

Re: U-Mass

You are correct, I edited my post to make that clear.

However, St. Joe's, GW, and VCU are all certainly in play as the 20 media member selection committee showed.  Bona is a darkhorse but with a 6-1 finish could be in play.  Most likely is probably 3 bids, second most likely 4.

Regarding Florida State...  Florida St played only one OOC game against a current RPI top 50 team - Iowa - and lost while having an OOC SOS of 202.  Compare to VCU's OOC SOS, which is 60.  It makes up for the conference SOS quite a bit.

Re: U-Mass

3 bids seems likely, 4 are deserving. wildcard will be the a10 tourney if a st bona, RI, or Duq makes a run!(hopefully its duq);

fsu could be a hinderance, keep in mind they do have a win over vcu, so the higher vcu goes, the stronger fsu looks; fsu also has a win over Va, and a chance to knock off miami, duke, nd, syracuse
not saying they are more deserving, but we all know the committee bias towards acc

how bout the a10 this year in general. this has been one of my favorite years to really follow.
so many upsets and exciting games.
look at the last week:
GW beats vcu on road, then gets clobbered by st joes.
dayton beats Duq an RI by a total of 4 points
umass knocks off vcu
fordam takes the bonnies to ot

the league has been awesome and fun this year
tourney is wide open
wish it were in the burgh this year

Re: U-Mass

Heels I agree although it may not get us a bunch of teams in the tournament IMHO the league is far better served having more parity.

Someone please explain to me how George Mason who is now 3-9 in the league can beat Davidson at home and we can't???????  They allowed Gibbs to get his and shut down everyone else and didn't get out rebounded but still. IMHO it's a toss up with St. Louis for who is the worst A-10 team.

Possibly the refs didn't screw GM with 2 fouls each player on GM in the first 8 minutes.  Nothing stops a team quicker than early fouls and lots of them, Also, Davidson is nearly last in all of D-1 in rebounds. If they hadn't beat the Dukes (in what looked like a really big screw job) their overall record would suck.  Davidson isn't very good at all, the rest of the season is going to probably show that.

Duquesne actually led for 5 minutes v Davidson.  "..no excuses" - Micah Mason.

Re: U-Mass

Tough match for Dukes.  Umass pretty good 3-pt shooting team - Dukes weak link.

Re: U-Mass

Darius Lewis is improving every game looks super strong with a bunch of rebounds, a transition block and 2/2 free throws

Re: U-Mass

Nice to see other people besides the senior guards contributing today. Steele looks really solid, lg is having a strong offensive game. We are the better team and we look like it today.

Looks like coach realized that he can't play the two guards for 40 mins anymore. Steel entered the game even before DC got in foul trouble. Kind of a sloppy half but they finished strong. Nice game be steel and gill so far

Lewis looks good for a couple of minutes and not so good for a couple.
