Watch Party

I see that PNC Park will serve as the site for a watch party on Monday night at 7:00. I hope they get a nice turnout. At least one of our hoops teams isn't on life support.

Re: Watch Party

So let me get this right. First time in the history of the woman's program these girls achieve a number of first's. In return the Athletic Department chooses to make people walk, drive, take the T or what ever over to PNC park for this party? Why in the world would they not hold this on the campus so the campus community could easily attend this monumental achievement. They have several ball rooms with big screen TV's, The Red Ring, Palumbo Center etc...

Out of all the thousands of dollars of college degrees in the AD and Marketing department can they not figure out to make this a Duquesne University Campus celebration? Same IQ no matter who is in charge. This would fall under the bottom to top analysis from the company that was asked to review the current status of the AD department and game day environment, what was the word "scathing" I believe it was. C'mon Man!!

Re: Watch Party

Disagree scotch.  I like the idea, and the Rivertowne Hall is IMO a nicer venue both overall and for the event.  It's not like this was going to be primarily for the student body at DU anyway given the attendance we've seen at the women's games this year, but more likely the general public.  For those at DU, It's a free ride on the T anyway.  Those that want can go over with the cheerleaders and band if they don't want to take the T.  For the general public, Rivertowne is an excellent facility - as good as folks would get at DU.

It should also help get awareness out about the women's team to those that park by PNC Park or anyone else that looks at the "events at PNC Park" tab online that otherwise may not have known about the Duq wbb team.

Hopefully the Red Ring would have been too small, and possibly also have too many non-wbb individuals there.  Palumbo is too big for my liking and would have been mostly empty.  I could have seen a ballroom.

Re: Watch Party

I would bet anything that a key factor is that Monday Night Raw is Monday night as well as Pittsburgh loves its wrestling.

So instead of criticizing the location, one which these ladies deserve for their accomplishments let's enjoy it and the fact that history likely will be made on Monday.

They deserve to be at Duquesne University to celebrate with the Students, staff, public, family, friends who ever shows up. I was not criticizing the location Einstein it was the fact that it is not being held on campus like probably 99% of the rest of the teams going.

Re: Watch Party

No question they deserve it but with wrestling going on and the date being known since November, it is hard to secure a place close to campus with all of the restaurants/bars including the Red Ring probably full.

Red Ring likely will not be big enough anyways and students have not shown interest all year.

PNC Park is a great venue which literally is a T ride away. PNC Park also has advertised the event a little and that is a very good thing for this team.

"Not criticizing the location Einstein?   Was that really necessary?   Zach is correct.   It is being held there because of the wrestling event at Consol

If students wanted to celebrate then perhaps (except for some about 5 faithful Crew members) they could have shown up during the season.   This is being done to make it easier for the about 300 faithful fans that are at Palumbo every game.

And what Duquesne staff?   I was sitting near a celebrated marketing professor at the GW game.  You know she is on TV frequently.  She stayed for the first quarter and left with her family.  She made a big deal about the fact she was there too.  I'll leave it at that.

To Complain about this is really silly IMO.

Also when Pitt was in the women's tourney they had a watch party at Stage AE.  Not on campus.

And with wrestling it makes it easier for the media to get there to cover the event.

Scotchngars, you're the type of guy that puts a bad spin on great news without knowing what went into the decision to have the celebration at PNC Park.  Knock off the criticism!  The women's team will be going to the NCAA tournament for the first time in the program's history.  My feeling is this will be the first of many such trips for the women's team in the future.

Don't come to the celebration at PNC if you are so irritated over the choice of venue!

Re: Watch Party

If there's an event at Consol that night then it would have made parking at Duquesne cost at least 10 or 20 dollars. Having the event at PNC allows for free on street parking after 6 PM.  You can also park for free at the casino if you want and walk a bit.

Re: Watch Party

HEELS:  Don't know if you are from the Burg or What -  At Palumbo after EVERY home game Burt, his staff, and the players were available to meet the public sign autographs, and pose for pictures  -  Most of us are past the "autograph seeking age" - but it shows THEY CARE ABOUT AND APPRECIATE THEIR FANS!!.

Just ONE more reason to follow them and possibly check out their results.

We reserve parking every game for our games. We control the lots.

Yes and I imagine they'd rather make event parking fees off WWE fans than give the spots away for free.  Plus there's the insane traffic congestion around our part of town on nights there's events at Consol.  Having it across the river at PNC Park should help alleviate that greatly.

Hey, Scotchngars, why don't your present your questions and presumptions about what facilities were available on campus for the Watch Party directly to Dave Harper or Coach Dan Burt?  That is, if you have the 🏀s to do so.  Be sure to include in your e-mail the 2nd paragraph wherein you present your in-depth position on the poor decision-making in selecting a non-campus facility.  Here are their e-mail addresses: harperd1@duq.edu and burtd@duq.edu.

After you send your e-mails to Dave & Dan, be sure to include those e-mails and any responses you receive from Duquesne's Athletic Department as part of your next post on this site.

By the way, how many of the Dukes' women's games did you attend this season?

Re: Watch Party

Article in the Trib says the Power Center on campus was first choice but it was booked.

A shame that there had to be a few who brought an unnecessary criticism of Duquesne's decision to hold the Watch Party at the Rivertown Hall of Fame at PNC Park.  Go Dukes!

Here's a link to the article in the Tribhttp://triblive.com/sports/college/duquesne/10122984-74/burt-duquesne-dukes

Re: Watch Party

A shout out to Melissa Franko for setting up a great event.  I had dinner next to two individuals that were both Pitt and Duquesne women's basketball ticket holders, and they were commenting how much better this was than anything Pitt put together.

The location was great, as anyone that went I'm sure would say.  Very nicely done.

Now...LET'S BEAT SHU!!!

Re: Watch Party

Just got home from watch party.  Tremendous event.   Crowded and great energy.   Former Dukes there.  Coach Burt spoke and you could tell he was blown away.

Congrats to all!
