My email to Harper the day after the LaSalle game
Dear Mr. Harper
This will be my final comment for this year. I don't want to become one of "those people" who constantly hector people with their opinions, especially when you have taken on this task of raising the Titanic, and are busy with that! But for the record, as per our conversation a few weeks ago.
1-8 down the stretch, getting outhustled, outplayed and most importantly outcoached by almost every A-10 team, it is clear Jim Ferry is in over his head, and is not in any way shape or form an Atlantic 10 level coach! This is beyond embarrassing, beyond humiliating to the long-suffering fans of this program, especially after the good start and the good publicity from the turnpike incident! Last night was the last straw, as an inept offensive team in LaSalle managed to drop 87 points on the DU defense, while all they did to defend was pretty much double team Mason and Coulter way out front. No coaching adjustment, no game adjustments! Nothing! This was probably the most embarrassing loss of the last month!
We are now FOUR years into Ferry's tenure. No more blaming Everhart. These are his players, his recruits! He is responsible for the talent, or lack thereof that is here! His teams don't play defense and it's obvious, he and his staff don't know how to coach it! And this isn't just an opinion of mine. Check out his "Defensive Efficiency Numbers" below:
• 2015 – Duquesne 111.6 overall AdjD; #334 in country; 14th of 14 teams in A-10 play
• 2014 – Duquesne 108.6 overall AdjD; #243 in country; 11th of 13 teams in A-10 play
• 2013 – Duquesne 105.8 overall AdjD; #266 in country;16th of 16 teams in A-10 play
• 2012 – LIU Brooklyn 106.9 overall AdjD; #278 in country; 8th of 12 teams in NEC play
• 2011 – LIU Brooklyn 103.3 overall Adj D; #206 in country; 4th of 12 team s in NEC play
• 2010 – LIU Brooklyn 109.6 overall AdjD; #307 in country; 8th of 12 teams in NEC play
• 2009 – LIU Brooklyn 105.8 overall AdjD; #255 in country; 4th of 11 teams in NEC play
• 2008 – LIU Brooklyn 104.4 overall AdjD; #206 in country; 5th of 11 teams in NEC play

• 2005 – LIU Brooklyn 105.1 overall AdjD; #237 in country; 5th of 11 teams in NEC play

Even his best teams were terrible in defense and you can't win in the A-10 with that kind of play! Sorry, you just can't! It's impossible!
So here we are four years into the Ferry era and we are worse than we were in Ron's second year! The program has not improved and is actually going backwards quite quickly! Next year should be fun as 40% of our scoring graduates! Well hey next year, I guess we get to be the #14 team that knocks off the #11. Oh joy!
REDACTED........ And yet somehow the AD and media spin is that Jim Ferry is rebuilding a decimated program. The few die hard alumni like myself are tired of pointing out that Ferry took over for a coach that had won 5 out of 6 seasons at a school that hadn't done that since bell bottoms were in style! And I hope you took note of that line in the PG article a few weeks ago about "many fans still SEETHING over Everhart's dismissal!" Many of those people are the same people who will not be renewing their season tickets next year over his failure of a replacement! Get ready for crowds of 200 in the AJP next year as Ferry makes excuse after excuse for the 10 win season!
I realize you got stuck with Ferry thanks to your predecessor forcing Ron out, a move, which led to his decision to move on, ironically enough. REDACTED.....But the simple fact is, he is NOT the coach to restore this program and this utterly breaks my heart, as I have told you before, this is it for me! NO more five year plans!
As I said before I am finished bothering you. I am not going to write you another negative email as you have too many important things to do than listen to disgruntled alumni like me, I get that! I don't envy the task you have before you, especially next year as you try to improve the morgue-like atmosphere at Palumbo, which will not be an easy task with another horrid basketball team playing listless, uninspired ball!
Ferry is not the answer! I don't know what is, but it sure isn't him.
Good Luck
