Summer League Different Take

Re: Summer League Different Take

I respect DK for what he's done with his business and he generally provides great sports coverage, but his comments regarding Duquesne always come off as someone who doesn't pay real close attention.

They should play this at the start of every practice.

2012, no question he has an agenda that goes back to his days on the Bluff. I do have to give him credit for coving hoops and for talking about players other than Pitt's. Also another harsh reminder of where we stand in the area.

Re: Summer League Different Take

I have followed this program all of my adult life, which has become to be called elderly! That sports writer is right about  what he said about Duquesne Men's basketball, it is up to the leaders of this University to make it better.

Bringing in above average or average prospects who many times don't make it or transfer out hasn't built any momentum to even approach playing above 500 ball here. I don't think this coach will reach 100 wins here, unless he stays around for 15 years.

Agreed. The problem I have with his commentary here was that it consisted of "they are losing DC and MM, therefore, they are going to have a rough year." That's just lazy. It doesn't acknowledge the new guys and replacements, and it doesn't acknowledge DC and MM's weaknesses and limitations which, in some ways, contributed to the team's lack of success in the conference season. Some of those weaknesses and limitations will be eradicated by the replacements

Yeah, taking aim at Dejan is misdirecting anger. Dougherty, Amodio ... I'll hand you the bats, swing away. Ferry is still "10 teams ahead of us Jimmy" in the A-10. Don't blame the press if they aren't singing our praises!

ED agreed. What I found most disturbing is the absolute belief the RMU will "fix" things and be better. As all of us are painfully aware the rebuild sign has been out on us for way to long.

There's enough anger to be spread around. I'm just commenting on DK's lack of research regarding his commentary this morning. It's the same argument you had last week when that high school kid was loose with his facts. You won't get any disagreements from me regarding the old administration's lack of support and apathy towards the basketball program.

Re: Summer League Different Take

I can see the value in both of your posts regarding the DK piece.  Certainly nobody can look at the results we've endured for the last 30-40 years and blame anyone but Duquesne for allowing a great tradition to die a slow death.  On the other hand  DK and his cub reporter pretty much stated the obvious, and didn't bother to do much in the way of research into the new players other than the nice comments on Ike Mike.

Re: Summer League Different Take

Just watched it again. What's discussed is completely accurate. We're all getting excited about Castro and others that are playing well, but what does it prove?

Until something happens during the season, we're the same old Dukes.
