Online! "I have never been this disappointed in my entire career of coaching!" said Ferry. I don't know whether me sitting throught the game (and yes, I left early to catch the interview) or listening to his shortened - almost crying - complaining interview -which was worse. When asked what he needs to do he said "Recruit" Talk about throwing the entire team under the bus. Hey , they aren't good - they don't have it- you can't get blood from a rock. He said he didn't ever play two big men at once because he couldn't even find one! and there was more.... Offline It's really hard to follow this team, even on the radio........looks like the Nee years, Part II. Offline This program is taking the preservers off the last few survivors and kicking us out of the life boat. I thought it would be impossible to push more people away from the program. I was wrong. Offline Meanwhile tj is looking at a #7 ranking and a packed house on espn. Offline It's really hard to follow this team, even on the radio........looks like the Nee years, Part II. I was ready for radio, game tracker on and Ray and Jarrett calling the game, a 6-0 Duquesne lead then unforced turnovers, a 19-2 GW run and I turned off my laptop and checked the final score around 10pm. Offline As we crucify ferry also note that he is quoted as saying "I guess it's my fault" for the loss. RE never took personal responsibility. I find this a refreshing attribute. Offline To Ferry's point: I suppose when your a coach and you go into every game knowing that you overmatched in size and talent it is frustrating. When you realize that you're being out-worked and out-hustled, it becomes disappointing. Coach Ferry is at least, honest. It's going to take 2 more years of very solid recruiting to turn this around. Look at our Seniors and our Juniors. No heart, no size, and very little talent...worse yet, no pride and no effort. The lack of effort was very visible to everybody in attendence last night. You can't possibly put all of that on the coach. These guys are all getting a $40+K education to play...Lot's of people work harder for less. Offline As we crucify ferry also note that he is quoted as saying "I guess it's my fault" for the loss. RE never took personal responsibility. I find this a refreshing attribute. Offline Like I've said previously here, this team quit on Ferry many weeks ago. Mutiny on the Bluff continues. Again, you prove that you are clueless and make ridiculous statements only to damage the present coach and his players. The team hasn't quit and will not quit. It is obviously a difficult time, the team needs the support of "loyal" fans now more than ever. The talent level is not what it needs to be to succeed at this level, but the coaches must stick to the standards that they have made clear to all of the players new and old. Offline As we crucify ferry also note that he is quoted as saying "I guess it's my fault" for the loss. RE never took personal responsibility. I find this a refreshing attribute. I don't agree with that. I thought he was being geniune in accepting responsibility and did qualify by saying something along of the lines of 'it's his job to get the necessary effort out of these guys.' Offline I was at the game and got to the car in time to hear the interview. By saying that the solution is to recruit, I think Ferry has determined that he is not able to coach the upper classmen to improve any further. He mentioned that the whole burden should not be put on the freshmen. It has been obvious for awhile that he is giving less playing time to upper classmen and trying to get the younger players more experience. So he has given up on the two seniors and perhaps our juniors as a lost cause. He noted that the GW coach is in his second year. In the first year they were bad. Now that he has had two recruiting classes, they are improving. It's all about the future. This season can't end soon enough for the coaching staff. Unfortunately, that's a realistic point of view. Offline Not giving up but I do understand the Danny Nee references. That last team of Danny's was not much worse than this one thru my eyes. The difference, I hope, is that Ferry is a competent head coach and will continue to build the team. It's tough to be upbeat after such a loss as last night, no doubt, but I am willing to "suck it up" and look to the future if for no other reason than there is not much to see in the present. Not giving up my season tickets, now or ever! Offline Don't you think potential recruits read the newspapers and notice how Mr. Ferry berates and humilates his team in public? It's one thing to make demands and be tough in the locker room and during practice, but he continually throws them under the bus in the media. No wonder they've thrown in the towel and can't wait for the season to mercifully come to an end. I'm sorry this has nothing to do with being a "real" fan or not or supporting this team when it is down. Coach Ferry's behavior in recent interviews and in the post game show leaves alot to be desired from a coach at this level. He "guesses" that it is his fault per the PG article. Ummmmm, you are the head coach. It is your fault. Online! -Praise in public - critcize in Private - That bothers me about Ferry - he doesn't do that Offline FanODukes, Steve 19981 and Pressure Cooker I think you guys hit the nail on the head, so I just want to concur with your perspective. I get that some people say he should back off criticizing players efforts etc., but it doesn't really bother me - kids (athletes in particular) are often too coddled in my view. I would note that Ferry did praise the effort of Colter and Jeremiah Jones. Something to also consider is that this shows how fiercely competitive this guy is - he hates losing - which hopefully will serve us well when he gets 2 more recruiting classes under his belt, which is what I think it is going to take. The other thing is he is certainly placing the focus on "his staff" getting A-10 level players in here so I for one will hold him accountable 2 years down the line. That being said I am optimistic based on the recruits he signed in a limited window. We'll see.

Yep, just like Amodio did when the programs were cut. Ferry's e-mail address was removed from the website last week. Only coach at DU without an address listed.
Well as a fan I have never been more disappointed in an athletic department. So I guess we have that in common. Ferry is a jerk.

I hear you Phil. GW was young but you could see they were well coached. DU looked lost on both offense and defense. Just a terrible effort all around.

I get that this is a bad season and that it's frustrating, but I seriously can't wrap my brain around the Danny Nee comps. If you think what we're getting out of Ferry is as bad as Nee you have a really short memory. I'm not at all happy with where the team is or the lack of progress they've made, but to write off Ferry after 20 games just makes little sense to me. Would you have done the same for Lonergan last year? Of course a lot of people writing him off now wrote him off before the season began anyway.
There is no excuse for the lack progress this team has made and there is no excuse for the effort on the floor last night. But for the love, give Ferry the opportunity to get his players in here and respect the fact that he is doing what he needs to to do win in the long run rather than the short run. We're not getting any 10/40's from him. They're playing his system whether they're ready for it or not talent wise and it should hopefully make the team better long run. I gave 4 1/2 to 5 years before I thought it might be time to make a change with Ron and I wasn't absolute about it until TJ transfered. I'm giving Ferry as long and I do think people ought to be patient and give him a chance.

Publicly giving up on two players, is just not very professional, IMO.

You may be right, but Ferry is the coach and he's not going anywhere any time soon. So let's hope that he and the staff will use the rest of this season building for next year. It does seem, that the freshman are not only the best that he has but also those who are willing to pay the price to win.

Why do you say RE never took personal responsibility? Are you one of the 2 or 3 Amodio advocates who want to continue to beat Ron up so that his firing can be justified? And why was it necessary in the first place to bring Ron into this conversation? This conversation is about Jim Ferry, not Ron Everhart!! Furtermore, how about some documentation for your claim that Ron never took responsibility?? Everybody knows Ron was a stand-up guy. You make him sound like a coward.

Well, all that we have left is hope that he can do it.
Re: Ferry's Post Game Interview!!!!!
-Is this how he deals with a major difficulty - That bothers me about Ferry - he is handling this situation poorly - What is it, the beatings will continue until morale improves?
With that said, I don't think that the recruits RE was getting and after TJ showed a lack of character and left along with the other guard, that we would have a better record that would mean anything if RE stayed. Yes, we might have won 2-4 more games, but it would mean absolutely nothing. I am not upset that this guy was hired - I am upset on how he talks about his players publicly (never let you see them sweat is something he obviously can't handle) and how he doesn't take responsibility. When he said during his interview that He is the coach and thus it is his fault, I felt he was being disingenious. Ray Goss even cut the interview short and said he would let him go. If Ferry was this upset and couldn't face the music, he should have had one of his assistants do the interview. He needs to grow up a little bit and handle this adversity better. The A-10 picked them last - He knew they would not be good - deal with it!!! •Thread Starter
