Offline Anybody going to the open practice this morning? I look forward to hearing some of your thoughts after getting to see the guys play in person. Offline just a couple random observations, and take it with a grain of salt as I really can't judge a lot based on todays open scrimmage and how it will translate into an actual game Last edited by heelsdukesfan (10/22/2016 10:46 am) Offline Didn't see anyone who stood out to the point where you could put the best player tag on him. Abrahamson looked good in the drills but a little less so in the scrimmage. Smith took part in drills but not the scrimmage. Spenser shot it well but I'm giving Micah the best lookin stroke on the bluff ribbon. I can see I. Mike becoming a starter if he performs like he did today once the season gets going. Blackmon seemed to score in spurts. All 3 bigs had the little half hook going. I'd give the edge to Robinson today. Lewis probably had a dozen fouls. Castro looked somewat better had some nice drives and a couple not so nice. Steele and M. Lewis both looked good. All 3 freshman look like they can contribute right away. Offline Folks wanted to know where I. Mike would play. Anywhere he wants except the 5. He is as advertised. Emile Blackmon showed the skill set that allowed him to be Niagara's top scorer. He does a lot of things well. Both posters are correct on their assessments of Abrahamson. Most of all I liked the improvement in our big bodied inside players. Nice to see Jordan Robinson take it to Darius and vice-versa. Even Sanders now has that baby hook going for him. Littleson lost the "deer in the headlights" look he had in summer ball. He acts like he belongs playing with D-1 talent. Mike Lewis will be fine. So will Tarin Smith. Our PG is very much upgraded. Take your pick on the 2-G! Blackmon, James, Steele, Littleson, I. Mike (yes-him). Take your pick at the 3-spot. Any of the foregoing except Littleson. Finally, the guys played hard D against each other today. ED, you have every right to be enthused about this team. CLK, mark me for 18 or 19 W's. Won't be surprised if its more. But, I am keeping in mind how tough the A-10 is. I enjoyed what I saw today very much. Offline It was a good 40 minute scrimmage with the teams pretty equally divided. There was much more ball movement than in past years. The ball hit the post more often. All three bigs made quick moves to the hoop which again is an improvement. The three freshmen are good. Littleson is a shooter and worked hard on defense. Mike Lewis finished at the rim and showed some poise running the team. Mike is just a player. Hopefully all three get good minutes. Blackmon is not flashy but he makes an impact. Smart player. Abrahamson missed a lot of shots but the experience shows. This team is much deeper. Train Smith took part in warm ups and is really athletic. Definitely encouraging. The league is such a bear, but put me down for 19 wins and at least one in the A10 tourney. Offline Was interesting that I. Mike was introduced as a guard.

Re: Open Practice
1. it was a nice turnout and well done by the dukes( my son got all their autographs and they were all very nice, respectful kids. made his day)
2. Spenser L. has a very sweet looking stroke-maybe the nicest looking shot I've seen on bluff in a long time..just a pure looking text book shot!
3. Team looks bigger and more physical. for years, Ive thought we would get out muscled, like we were sending boys out there against men. These guys look like men. I think the a10 is an incredibly physical league and these guys look up to the challenge- even the guards like smith, blackmon, and lewis just look like physical kids. Steele looks alot "thicker' too
4. not quite sure what "it" is, but I. Mike seems to have "it." He just looks and acts like a big time basketball player, even in all the little things-warm ups, drills, just how he carries himself.. I think he is someone we are going to really enjoy watching over next couple of years. I can see why there is a lot of hype with him. i don't know if he can come in and dominate day 1 in the a10 but i def see a very nice career for him.
