Re: Nail in the coffin!

If I were J Rob I would be transferring after this year.  He could be a double double machine

Just watched the post game presser. "...Jordan needs to improve defensively..." "....hard to play Jordan....". Once again, Coach Ferry has put his dislike for JRob above the team. Anybody who watched the game last night saw the level of destruction JRob inflicted on UMBC. Zero turnovers, 1 PF, 3 rebounds (2 offensive), 1 block, 1 assist to go along with 8 points......in 9 minutes?! I have no doubt that Coach Ferry gets 'thank you' notes from opposing coaches for leaving JRob on the bench. I no longer watch The Big Bang Theory. If I want to laugh until I cry, I simply watch Coach Ferry's post game pressers.

I was an eye witness to last night's debacle at the Palumbo.  JRob's performance should be the major part of any Duquesne game highlights for that game!  He was in a scoring groove (4 out of 5) as he backed his way in close to the basket against the UMBC defenders.  These are the moves of a power forward.  During the post game radio interview with Ray & Jarrett, Ferry was asked about JRob's performance.  I believe I heard Ferry say that JRob made only one shot.  (Perhaps I misunderstood Ferry's comments.) For some reason neither Ray nor Jarrett corrected him.

He already sat out a year. Unless he graduates, he's stuck here.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

I was watching a batman rerun and could have sworn I saw Jim Ferry - ooops, it was the "Joker".  What a croc with this guy and his assessment of JRob.  What a friggin croc is all I can say.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

That crack about defense, there was a UMBC forward who dropped back on the left side and got a pass and hit a three, JRob went out trying to distract his shot. I saw another Dukes standing out there who did not rotate to the shooter.

OK, what a reason to bench the forward who was red hot, for what Saunders or a guard ?

Re: Nail in the coffin!

I agree with ferry that JRob has to improve defensively. He struggled mightily when we switched to that zone. However, that goes for everyone else on the team too. JRob is not a huge drop off from any of the other bigs defensively, but he seems to be way more advanced offensively. Why not play him more?

For fear that we'd have to abandon the "cross midcourt and shoot" game plan.

2012 that is exactly the point:

I hate to even ask, as I am afraid I know the answer, can Ferry be that blind or pigheaded that he doesn't recognize the above?

Re: Nail in the coffin!

BTW doing a little more research on UMBC's first year coach, not only did he coach a very good and well respected D2 team. He is the son of Dave Odom who the older guys may remember as a very good coach in the 90's at both Wake Forest and South Carolina. Dave was coach of the year in both the ACC and SEC. Obviously Ryan was paying attention. UMBC started 2- Soph, 2- Juniors and 1- Senior, he had them changing defenses on the run and they didn't even flinch at our press.  😪😪😪

Re: Nail in the coffin!

Guys, guys, guys.  Everyone is overreacting to this loss.  College basketball is a process.  Ferry needs to get his players that fit his system before he can have sustained success.  It only took him 8 years at LIU so I think we should give him a minimum of 14 years to succeed here.  After all, most of these players are freshmen so it will take time for them to reach their peak.  They may not be at Duquesne during their prime, but we should still wait for that period.  Plus, keep in mind, Ferry inherited the worst College BB situation that has ever existed since the game was created.  He can't possible be expected to turn this ship around in less than 15-20 years.  Give it time.  It'll all make sense soon.

Totally agree how about a lifetime contract. Cutting edge decision its classic Duquesne. You know there must be something in the water at Old Main.

Re: Nail in the coffin!

Last night was like the worst version of us being terrible at every facet of the game we have been since Ferry has been here. Can't rebound, can't defend worth (profanity), jumping at every shot fake, stupid fouls, nonexistent perimeter defense, I'd say 65% of the 3s they made were completely uncontested. Bad shots, quick shots, tons of bad turnovers, no interior offensive penetration, can't even draw a trip to the foul line, countless stupid offensive fouls. Ferry, you are an ass, a clown, and a con man. At this rate we could hire the coach at a local high school and expect better results. This man is a fraud

Re: Nail in the coffin!

The "nail in the coffin" statement is what I thought verbatim as the close of the game.  Yes, there was the usual Complaining from the usual griper fans, but at the Wed. night game, I heard something rarely heard before.  The "silent majority" of loyal Duquesne fans that usually don't complain too much (except for losing the game), were commenting enough is enough.  There were about 903 fans there, and I think almost to a person, they were basically fed up to where this once proud program has sunk . Can't say I have an answer, but I know what I'm seeing now is definitely NOT the answer.
