Bobby Mo Game Thread

Tough start to the season for Bobby Mo. The wheels seem to have come off for Toole lately. I wonder if he regrets not getting out of dodge when the opportunity was there?

Absolutely!! We caught a break when Bobby Mo decided to have this at the Arena instead of at the Sewell Center. The Arena should be full of good vibes for the Dukes after last Friday.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

Dukes finally beat them last year but still had trouble solving the RMU zone. This isn't going to be easy and coming just after Pitt could be stumbling block. BIG mistake moving this game for RMU.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

This is a big game for the Dukes to continue the momentum and keep the student interest and pride going.  RMU has been promoting this game hard to their fan base for the last two weeks.  Free tickets to their students and a 50% discount on tickets for their fans.  What are the marketing and AD folks at Duquesne doing for their students and fans???

Their marketing plan was beating Pitt and landing on the front page of the post gazette! In all honesty, they should be marketing this game and others in a manner similar to RMU, but we all know that attendance and interest follows success. It would have been hard to get people to come to the RMU game had we lost to Pitt and had a losing record.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

I am beginning to wonder if it is always true that fan support follows success, or if fan support can help breed success.  Ferry made a post game comment to the effect that "the DU students came out and the team responded". In the losses at home outside of the cheerleaders and pep ban there were less than a hand full of students at the games. Just my opinion but I think DU should be giving free tickets to students  for the RMU game or at least making it more affordable. I agree with those above that this is a big game.  This is the last real challenge of the non conference schedule.  The Dukes have a chance to finish 8-5.  The good will from the Pitt game will be lost, and the fan support will deflate quickly, if we lose to RMU.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

Good point, CLK. I would imagine playing in an empty, cavernous palumbo center probably doesn't excite these players very much. There just seemed to be something different about the team on Friday in front of all those students and fans. They seemed more confident and more driven to close that game out.

This is actually a home game for RMU. They may have total control over the ticket sales.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

RMU has moved this game and one other to PPG. This is their attempt to show better conferences their willingness to do what it takes to move up.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

I thought students automatically received tickets through an activities fee, at least they did back in the day.  Students should get free tickets (pick up in advance) to every game.  That is how you build your base.  Can't believe DU charges for student tickets, hope I am wrong on this!

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

All of these are good points, bottom line is ADept needs to do whatever is necessary, by whatever means, to drum up support from students for the RMU GAME!  I don't care if they have to offer free tickets, food - you name it, get it done!  If I were Harper I would have my whole staff going to frats, sororities and the dorms with flyers etc.  Take advantage of this positive momentum.

You are wrong. Every duquesne game in every sport on campus is free.

again, this isn't our game. this is robert morris's.

This is a Bobby Mo home game. No student tickets for Duquesne.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

Then drop two grand on tickets and give them to the students.

C'mon Duquesne! Think!

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

I was referring to Duquesne home games, but any game held at the Consel/ppgp, drop the money to get the kids to the game.  If the students already get free home game tickets, then shame on them for not attending.

who knows? maybe they want to do that. hard to say.

i know what i'm doing tuesday. the team has to win more before i'm willing to shell out money. so i'll be at palumbo at 5 for the women's team.

edit: finally announced, those in the crew who attend the women's game will receive a ticket to the men's game. hopefully that entices people to see the bluff's best team last year.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

7pm tip Tuesday at PPG Paints Arena. Per KenPom:
Dukes #199 (4-5) vs Robert Morris #276 (2-7)
RMU is ranked 3rd of 10 in the Northeast Conference.
Game prediction: Dukes by 4, 70-66 - Dukes with a 65% probability of a win.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

I'm flabbergasted by that. Four point favorites over a 2 win team on a court on which we beat an ACC team by 9.

Either the crap pants losses are coming home to roost or Pomeroy thinks Romo would nip Pitt by a point on this court.

Nah, most likely the computer sees this as a home game for Bobby Mo, not the neutral court game that it actually is. Those numbers make sense if the game is at Sewell.

Bobby mo isn't as bad as their record indicates in my opinion. They've had a number of close games and beat Towson. This will be a difficult game, especially coming off an emotional win.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

KenPom has this game listed as Neutral site.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

When you lose at home to teams that are currently ranked 224, 230 and 273, and RMU is ranked 276 on a neutral court...

Agree, they are always tough on Duquesne regardless of record, and I'm sure they are thinking the Dukes are still the high from beating Pitt, so they may not be ready for the intensity of this game.  Dukes need to come out with intensity and set the tone early.  Hopefully we hit shots and break their zone.  They may show some full or 3/4 court pressure, although the Dukes handled it against Pitt, but it was just 3/4 court zone and somewhat passive pressure, not the high intensity trapping and switching press that Cleveland St used against the Dukes.

Re: Bobby Mo Game Thread

It seems the guard play is picking up, Castro has more confidence and his stop and go dribble and dribble drive to the basket is hard to stop.

The adjustment of Blackman and Smith seems to be underway and Mike Lewis II is becoming a dependable off guard that can provide offense.

I still wonder what happened to JAMES, at quick big swing man, maybe he will play himself into a more productive upperclassman as the year goes on.

We all seem to wonder why JRob is unused, and I think Mike will score more if he swings inside and is more particular on his three point attempts.

It is so early in the year to be playing game number ten, maybe a more manageable schedule with time for practices to correct errors will help.

I would hope my predicted 16 wins could be reached, it will take winning all conference games that aren't upsets and stealing several wins and upsets.
