And let me add one more thing to the criteria for hiring a Coach Mr. Harper, please hire someone who will become vested in the community and not be a commuter whose family doesn't even live here!  Apart from the leaked presser, which to this day I would argue GA or DocD had no clue about (only makes them look bad), I supported the Ron decision and I know GA knew his ass was on the line with the replacement - the sinking Ferry - which of course turns out to be the worst hire in DI history.  That being said, I respected Ron, he was well liked and he and his family became part of the local community.  The next hire has to be willing and able to call Pittsburgh HOME and become part of the fabric of our great City!

I agree with that. The only time we ever saw Ferry's family was at the press conference announcing his hire

Re: Post-Gazette on Ferry

That is actually false, and in fact not even close to the truth.  JF moved his family to Pittsburgh and either purchased or rented a house in the Pine-Richland School District.  His children went to Pine Richland Schools, and attended both home and some nearby road games such as Penn State.  Anyone who attended the home games will remember his sons sitting at the end of the bench at home games for the first couple of years of his tenure at Duquesne.  JF was a frequent attendee at the Pgh Pro-Am games as well.
At some point after a few years in Pittsburgh I suppose his family moved back to Long Island.  It's really nobody's business,  just a family decision that was made.  You may not like his coaching style, but he is a decent man , so let's leave his family out of the discussion.

Re: Post-Gazette on Ferry

Levon you are wrong for about 90% of what you believe to be true, and I'll leave it at that. I would also say that when the University makes a major commitment it should be expected that the person understand there is far more to this job than just coaching.

Re: Post-Gazette on Ferry

Despite the lousy season thus far, the team has a chance to have
a nice finish.
Seven games remain.   Four at home, three on the road.
The road games, SBU and GMU are probably losses.
The remaining road game, STL, is a  possible win along with home games  against Mass, Ford, GWU and ST J
A challenge, obviously, but doable based on teams records although Saragin ratings would indicate otherwise.
Still, a fan can always hope.

And most of us by this point are saying "So what?" Another lost Duquesne season.

Actually, I hope not. The worst thing that could happen would be to win a few meaningless games, and to have him hang on for another year. The horse is out of the barn and gone. Time to shop for a new one. He'd have to win 6 of 7, then reach the A10 semis for me to change my mind at this point.

I know for a fact that Jim Ferry's family lived here for some period of time in the Pine-Richland area - Treesdale Plan I think. I don't know for how long or when they moved back to New York, but his son played in the same midget football league as my grandson. I saw his family at the games - about 3 or 4 years ago I think, not really sure.

Ditto for me here. The last thing I want to have is some false hope that Ferry knows what he is doing.

Re: Post-Gazette on Ferry

Believe we have had a fair sampling of what Coach Ferry and his staff are capable of. This could likely be the 2nd worse record during his 5 year tenure at DU..Seen enough!

Re: Post-Gazette on Ferry

Mr. President you couldn't have said it any better.  Ferry can talk about what he was left with, but I can just imagine if his roster was decimated by a rogue shooting!  Good grief, we'd be talking about a 20 year plan.  I'll agree with Mike Tomlin on one thing, "you are what your records says you are" and there is no disputing that - Ferry has pooped the bed, end of story.  This isn't the football, you can get better by just building with a good recruit or two every year and by year 3 you should be respectable as a team and program.  Quit with the excuses Jimmy or just go back to Long Island.
