only if someone returns his favor to IFPW and let duquesne host IU or somebody big

I hate myself for loving you. Quoting me without the expressed written consent of the National Hockey League is prohibited.

Re: Tom Crean

Some Indiana fans have characterized him as "a decent recruiter, an awful head coach, and the creator of the weave and heave offense".

Sound familiar?

No washed up retreads. He won't come cheap either.

Re: Tom Crean

As I said in another post, John Groce might also be available.

Another guy who has largely been a disappointment in his current job. Illinois used to be a power. Not so much now.

Who are the top assistants at Dayton, and VCU?

Re: Tom Crean

duq81, just curious, would you look at the top assistants from Gonzaga or Saint Mary's? Different coast, but small Catholic university environments with big time results. I keep going back and forth on this scenario.

Re: Tom Crean

Noooooo!   Can you say Danny Nee?  We need a very hungry coach who can inspire young men, who can COACH, and who can connect to the alumni and students to establish a fan base.

I would worry about them making the adjustment to being in the east, but people had the same concern about Ben Howland, and he was a spectacular success. VCU has been successful through a string of coaches, so they're obviously doing something right.
I would also look strongly at the staffs at Villanova, and Butler. Villanova associate Head Coach Baker Dunleavy is the son of long time NBA player and coach Mike Dunleavy. We've only gone this route once, with John Carroll, and while he didn't get us where we wanted to go, his tenure was far from a disaster, and probably would have been better if not for BC, and the dumb conference change that killed Carroll's recruiting. Also, Seton Hall wasn't an established power when we plucked Carroll. They had basically come out of nowhere, which was probably part of his appeal. The schools I mentioned are all established winners. I'm beginning to feel strongly that this is the way to go.

Re: Tom Crean

If your looking for retreads and IMO we should not, Thad Matta is also rumored to be done very soon.

Re: Tom Crean

Matta might be the most capable of the retreads, actually. Not saying he's "the guy," though.

Matta might actually be able to land another P5 job if he's fired. He's done more, at what's probably considered a slightly lesser job than Indiana. 15 years ago, Indiana was on the same level as Duke, UK, KU, and Carolina. You have to do better than what Crean's done there.

Former Fordham coach Bob Hill would be good.

Unfortunately, I think king rice is out of our league at this point. He's going to be on the radar of a lot of P5 teams.

I'm unimpressed with Patsos. He has a losing record at Siena, has never finished in first place as a head coach, and is only 9 games over .500 for his career. Why would we want him?

Re: Tom Crean

Patsos
Affordable-last salary I could find for Patsos was $357,000 per.
He coached Loy of Md and they went to the NCAA tourn in 2012
Siena won the CBI(I know-who cares but a championship is a championship) in 2014
Has a winning record at Loy of MD and Siena-no easy achievement considering the resources of the two schools.
Similar to Schmidt at SBU and we know what Schmidt has done at SBU.
I agree, at least on paper, not the best choice but appears to be a coach who can do more with less.

He has a losing record at Siena, 64-65. Siena is not a tough place to win at in the MAC. It took him 8 years to make the NCAAs at Loyola, and he hasn't been back. Aren't we trying to get rid of a guy like that?  I'm not impressed at all with him, and would be extremely disappointed if he were the hire. I'm ready to go the assistant route. I doubt any major P5 assistant would come, but I like the idea of looking at the Catholic schools who are at a high level.
Villanova
Butler
Dayton
Xavier
Creighton
Give me a guy who is under an established and proven head coach.

Probably not, but I'd rather have him than some retread.
