Bloody tongue topic

If there is ANYTHING to what Hilltopper says about Ferry coming back next year -- dear God no -- then Mr. Harper must make him fire everyone on his staff but Rhodes and bring in assistants with experience, knowledge, and recruiting connections.

Heck, bring in a successful retired guy who can keep Ferry from getting pantsed at the end of games.

SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE. BOHICA does not work. Failing to understand this tells me we have the wrong people in charge. Again.

Re: Bloody tongue topic

I do believe a coaching staff shake up is called for even if Jim Ferry is retained for another year. It is not without precedent. It happens all the time from college sports to the baseball major leagues (Pirates) and the NFL. Ferry fits into a fairly large segment of "average" coaches who, if given enough talent, can win some games. Duquesne needs much more than that at this juncture IMO. Hoping for something to change for the better in the coaching department even if Jim stays another year.

Re: Bloody tongue topic

The only way that Ferry will lose his staff is if Harper fires them.  Ferry will tell them that if he has to fire them, then they would have to fire him.  They won't do that because of the cost of his buy out .  The cost of his buy out IS THE ONLY REASON HE WILL BE RETAINED.  Thus, Harper will have to fire them.

Then, who in the hell wants to come and work with Ferry, WHO IS ANY GOOD, as an assistant?  If Ferry is retained, look for his staff to be retained.  If Harper doesn't have the inner strength to fire Ferry he certainly doesn't have the inner strength to fire his assistants.

At what point has he distinguished himself as being "average"? Or anything close to it? The Dukes RPI numbers for the past 6 years have been:

16-17    218
15-16    159
14-15    221
13-14    185
12-13    229

These numbers aren't even average for an MAAC level program, let alone for the A-10. I know he loves to throw players under the bus, but is anyone now doing the same to assistant coaches? He is the leader of our basketball program. He could have Bobby Knight and Jim Calhoun on his bench, but if he continues to make the same crappy decisions game after game, it doesn't matter who is sitting next to him. Ol' Teflon Jim...  Its always someone else's fault.,

In 5 years, he is still blaming "the cupboard," and "the right kind of kids." In year 5 he has produced an RPI of 218 and last place again.

Mr. Harper built his reputation on fundraising. Unless all 350 actual people in the stands last night all contribute $100K+ to the program, there aren't going to be any funds to raise. It is not Harper's fault that Ferry was hired or that he has a burdensome contract, but it will be Harper's fault if he doesn't rectify this train wreck.
