PG Zeize Article

It looks like Jim Ferry is trying real hard to get his allies to push the idea that he deserves another year.  Now personally I really don't care, but I am not a fan of fake reporting to make your case, and the old worn "blame it on Ron" bullshit.  Here is the article from Zeise:

http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/zeise-is-right/2017/02/16/fire-jim-ferry-rumors-give-another-year-duquesne-basketball-coaching-carousel/stories/201702160180?utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_source=Twitter&utm_term=Autofeed#link_time=1487268748

In the article he states:

The first thing Ferry was asked to do was fix the APR numbers, and he has done that. The Dukes have improved in the classroom from the brink of NCAA penalties (below a score of 930 out of a possible 1,000 from 2005-09) to a healthy score (955 in 2014-15, the last year listed by the NCAA). The second thing he was asked to do is bring stability to the program, and he has done that. He is recruiting a lot more high school players who are, in theory, more likely to stick around for four years. And the third thing he was asked to do is win games, which is often the toughest thing to do. A lot of coaches are fired by administrations with itchy trigger fingers before they can have success in this area."

1) If you look at the last two years under Ron the APR was:  956 & 953  The truth is the  Program was not in danger when Ron left, and Ferry has not moved the needle with a 955 score.

http://web1.ncaa.org/maps/aprRelease.jsp

2)  Ferry has had more player turnover in his first 5 years than Ron did.  Look it up.

3) Ferry W/L record has been horrible, and laughable in comparison to what Ron achieved in the same period.

My advice to Mr. Zeise is that you are entitled to your opinion but spare us the fake reporting to support your conclusion.

Re: PG Zeize Article

Ziese was fed this info by someone. I doubt he cares enough to do the research himself.
I am guessing that source is Harper.
As for why,  it could be Gormley made some calls.

My friend, I doubt very seriously that either Harper or Gormley fed this BS to Ziese.

Re: PG Zeize Article

I think we are being set up.

I think the "plan" is to bring him back. Which tells me that Mr. Harper may not have a plan. In which case the board will need another moderator because I will put everything Duquesne in the rear view mirror and never look back again.

Re: PG Zeize Article

Gee, what can any of us say that we haven't.
-The 17 wins last year was because of an extremely weak OOC SCHEDULE
-His W/L record is terrible
-The program was NOT in shambles - the writer never mentions the record under Ron
-Ferry does NOT connect to fans, the students, or a lot of the alumni
-His teflon behavior throws kids under the bus and takes no responsibility
-I can go on... and so can you

Re: PG Zeize Article

I go back to my post and my point I tried to make.

Why would Zeise and Dunlap care enough to even write and talk about DU?

Someone must have talked to them.  I am just curious who and why.

I like the end of the article, the young roster and the 3 recruits.

You are all missing another group in this play for power. THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. Remember everyone works for someone. One other point I can count on one hand how many games Zeize or Dunlap have seen in person in the last 5 years.

Re: PG Zeize Article

Have 'em watch the end of the St. Louis game, for one. Or one of the early season home cupcake games.

They should have to at least suffer through the  we see before extolling the virtues of Smalltime Jim.

Unless they want to see the program die altogether out of hatred for Duquesne.

There is no doubt that they could end up tying Harper's hands.

Duq81, ferry has one year left on his contract, right? I can't imagine they would want a potential lame duck coach. You almost never see that. That means either get rid of him or extend him.

He does. If he only had one year, we'd know he was gone.

Oh okay. Well that makes me less sure that he'll be let go after this year. Not sure there is an appetite in the BofD to eat two years of his contract.

They ate two of Ron's.

If Wheeler and Walker are as good Mike and Lewis II that'd be 4 pretty good young players for next season. If they only had a coach.

Re: PG Zeize Article

Ferry was at First Love Christian practice today looking at David Collins (17) and another kid who'd be a 2019 recruit. Collins has had some big games against some good schools and has a lot of coaches coming in to take a look.

Not a bad analysis from an Economics major. More importantly, it's been 9 months since the last WEB posting. Should the missing person report be filed in Allegheny County or with the FBI😂😂😂😂

This is my feeling as well. I have always felt that Zeis is a lazy reporter, and also I'm sure the only Dukes game he saw this year was the Pitt game. He is definitely not trying to save Ferrys job, he probably just had to interview Ferry and took what Ferry told him at face value because he does not know any better as we do.

New flash people, not a lot of people around the city care about/follow the DU men's b ball program right now if you could believe that

Re: PG Zeize Article

I wonder what the mood around here would be at the end of the 21/22 season if Ferry is hired by WVU to take Huggins place (retired) after leading the Dukes to back to back NCAA bids?

I don't know I will ask my two wives, Jessica Alba and Christina Hendricks while they sunbathe topless on my 80 foot yacht cruising around Ibiza, sipping booze that's older than they are when that happens.

Hopefully he'll be in the middle of his 10 year rebuilding process at Nassau County Community College. He can play all the 5-10 guards he wants there.

We'll be analyzing our new coach, Kevin Stallings, just stolen from Pitt. Pitt is so mad about it that they tell us that if we want to continue the series, all games must be played at Palumbo for the next 5 years.

Re: PG Zeize Article

Ironduke81,  WEB does not post much any more, but I do hear from him from time to time.  We had our acrimonious differences with the firing of Ron back when he was a student at DU (and I was a passionate hot head about Ron getting fired), but he & I now have good mature private conversations about DU.  He is a good guy, and I believe I can safely say he is as frustrated as all of us with the current state of DU hoops.
