Re: Fordham Game Thread - The Sequel

And enough BS about a 10-year plan.  That was never meant to be.  I distinctly recall that Duquesne chose this year to host the A-10 Tournament in Pittsburgh coz this was the year that we were gonna be a top-tier A-10 team under Ferry.

Re: Fordham Game Thread - The Sequel

Agree with Mulder and VBC. He will be back. He has two good players who came in this year. If he can match that next year, perhaps things could get a little better.

I root for the jersey.

I think he will be retained due to financial obstacles.  Not because of overall W/L results or attendance/interest or future expectations per recruiting.

That said - What do you mean by "perhaps things could get a little better"?
W v L improvement?  Better tactical / game day coaching?  Better player development?

Regardless of the talent that Ferry brings in, he will consistently get 3 to 5 less wins than he should with that talent level. He never coaches them up; he just gets less out of them. In the A-10, the Dukes will continue to have a hard time surpassing the talent level of the top third of the league. So you must have a coach in place that can at least get the expected wins out of the talent and maybe a couple more if you want to crack the top half of this league. The talent level on last year's team should have resulted in 20 wins; this year's team 16 wins. Ferry's teams at Duquesne have never overachieved; just the opposite has taken place. Time to move on.

If that is true, that we are really stuck with an overpaid horrendous coach because we can't afford to buy him out, then it's time to cash in our chips, and get out of this game.  we are NOT, NOR WILL WE EVER BE, a big time program!  Drop to the Patriot League or something!

I hope I am wrong - but history shows money does not flow to the HC for this program ...We have 40+ years to prove it.  In fact go back to the 1940's - 60's when we were good & had 2 coaches leave on their own - one to make more $$ as a High School coach.

We'd be last in the patriot League, if we were good enough as a school to get in there. The MAAC would be our likely landing place, and we'd lose there as well.

Re: Fordham Game Thread - The Sequel

Speaking of the Patriot League---Bucknell's coach Nate Davis has a very impressive resume and a very disciplined and well-coached team. No way to know if he could recruit at A10 level, but he would get the most out of what he got. He would probably fit the budget too, if he was willing to go here, where careers die.

'

Have you seen Ferry's ridiculous contract?  and (as I have mentioned before) in the 90s Sue Ryan told me that we were fifth or sixth in the A 10 in terms of coaching staff salaries. I don't buy that "no money excuse."

Believe me - I hope they do have the resources & decide to make a change now.

This is true. Since Carroll was hired, only DAP was vastly underpaid for the level we play at.
