Anchor around his arse.

As we near season end we compare this year to last, an indication of exactly where things went wrong this year based upon play of the starting backcourts, most teams' achilles:

1. FG%  Mason 46% and Colter 40%  vs  Lewis 42% and Smith 34%

2. 3Pt%  Mason 42% and Colter 34%  vs  Lewis 37% and Smith 10%

3. FT%  Mason 84% and Colter 80%  vs  Lewis 84% and Smith 54%

4. PPG  Mason 20 and Colter 18  vs  Lewis 14 and Smith 6

Above figures in-conference, only, cup cakes excluded. 'Nuff said.

For all of that, we only won 5 games in conference last year, which is why the season was a disappointment. If we had gone .500 in conference, we'd have won 21 games, and we'd be able to swallow hard, and accept this season as a "rebuilding year".

Smith has been a huge disappointment this year, no doubt about it. I'm not giving up on him for the future, but any success this year counted on him. He has to be putting up 500 to 1,000 shots per day this offseason. He won't be an effective player until he becomes at least an average shooter.

Giving back 18 points per game (38ppg v 20ppg) a lot to overcome.

So are we playing in some kind of 2 on 2 league, or do you just think comparing two guys who played together vs. two guys who are together for the first time just makes you feel better about the way Ferry coaches?

How about comparing Powell and Gill to Abrahamson and Blackman? D-Lewis last year vs. this year?

Soko and McKoy were the best front court players Ferry's had. Colter and Mason were on that team.

How'd that work out?

The problem here is the coach.

No argument.  But, after 3 years of NCAA practice/preparation under his belt, just when does his light turn on?   He has yet to exceed 61% at the foul line at either Nebraska or DU, a less than stellar 34% field goal rate and ridiculous 10% from three, how does he get on the floor?   On other hand, DU coaching has apparently improved his ball handling abilities from about 1:1 A/TO ratio at Nebraska to 1.5:1 at DU.  Perhaps one true hope for Ferry is a real PG, can you say Jamari Wheeler?

Re: Anchor around his arse.

The one true hope for Ferry is letting him coach at a level where he is better qualified.

Nassau County Community College, for example.
