Offline Holy Toledo what a resume !!! Offline Didn't want to jinx it, but I had a good feeling about this when I heard Dambrot was involved. Only because after four coaches supposedly kicked the tires on Duquesne and passed, why in the world would they be talking to Dambrot again if there wasn't a real chance of getting him this time? Wouldn't be surprised if Dambrot put out feelers to Duquesne first. He's accomplished all that he can reasonably accomplish at Akron, his son's in Pittsburgh, he has a family connection to Duquesne, he can make good money in the last stage of his career at Duquesne. With likely no more than a decade of coaching left, he's got little to lose and everything to gain if he can be the coach that leads the long-awaited basketball turnaround at Duquesne. We get a proven winner at a position that, let's face it, the hot young assistants and rising mid-major stars weren't going to touch given our reputation for being a coaching graveyard. Will he get us to the NCAAs or be the coach that restores the program to competitive respectability and paves the way for the hire that will take the program to the next level? Either way, I'd say Duquesne has made a really good hire. The roller-coaster ride of the last two weeks was worth it. Coach probably has a lot on his plate the first few days and requested to push the official ceremony back a few days. Offline I work until 7 crap. I really wanted to go Online! I wonder if current players and previous recruits are getting these 2 days to decide if they want to get on board or get out of the way. How sweet would that be I don't think that is a choice on the coach level. It would have to be department wide, so maybe if Dambrot has connections with the brand and talks to Harper and Nike. Offline Yea I don't know the ins and outs. I was on the wrestling team 2002-2006 and I believe it was Adidas. I have a ton of apparel through those years, but none that are "cutting edge" unfortunately. My favorite Duq apparel I bought on my own. How crazy is that? I believe Akron is actually Adidas in everything but Men's BBall and is in a higher tier within Nike thanks to LeBron. Davidson recently became Under Armour for all sports but men's bball will still be Nike for another year or so. Offline Do you think Duquesne adopts the Nike/LeBron apparel now? I'm not comparing us to them but Dambrots connections may well get us to that tier by itself. Lebron is essentially the face of Nike. Offline When I was at Duquesne, the basketball team had a shoe contract with Pony. I'd say they've come a long way. Offline LET'S GO DUQUENSE!!! LET'S GO DUQUESNE!! Yes, many AAU coaches have Adidas ties and only send their players to other Adidas schools. It goes both ways. Offline Do you think Duquesne adopts the Nike/LeBron apparel now? I am not so sure Duquesne is married to Adidas since there is a sale on campus with all kinds of Adidas stuff coming at the end of the week. If I am a betting man, Dambrot came from Akron which was a Nike team. This leads me to believe Duquesne will be switching to Nike.
Re: It's Official
There is no reason that DU can't win big time.
Maybe it is true that Chuck Norris wears Kieth Dambrot pajamas !!

Universities are sponsored and paid by apparel brands to rep their gear. The size and relevance of the program determines how much and what level of gear you get from an apparel brand. For example, Akron was Nike but they don't get as much or as nice of gear as say a Duke or a Syracuse.
Personally I thought the unis from the last two years were just awesome. Adidas makes the jerseys and apparel for all nba teams and our unis resembled NBA jerseys very closely.
That being said a switch to Nike apparel would be big. There are articles you could read that would tell you having Nike gear can boost merchandise sales dramatically and even help in recruiting because these kids all want to wear Nike. They have what is perceived to be the coolest and most cutting edge gear, especially by millennials.
We probably have an outstanding contract with Adidas for who knows how long.

Unless Coach Dambrot is getting to bring the LeBron connection and Nike here that will benefit us, I'll go with whomever pays us the most; whether that is Adidas, Nike or Under Armour. Unless you are one of the top of the line school, schools of our stature wear the same Nike uniforms I see WPIAL schools wearing, so I'm not dying to wear Nike. Heck, pitt fans have been wondering when they're going to benefit in recruiting from switching to Nike. Also, some of the more recruited players around here play for Ohio Basketball Club (Adidas) or TTG/Bridge City (also Adidas).

Your right there are specific situations where this isn't the case, but 9/10 times a university's major sports teams wear the same apparel across the board, but I agree use whoever pays the most.

What a statement by DU and welcome Coach Dambrot! This guy gets it, look at his statement in press release. This is the dawn of a new era my friends! As was said in one of my favorite sci-fi movies (Dune), "The Sleeper Has Awaken"!! I am so friggin pumped. Congrats Mr. Harper and President Gormley for your efforts and commitment.
