Jamari Wheeler

Commits to Penn State.  Just glad it was not VCU

Re: Jamari Wheeler

Some impressive talent at Penn State; Tony Carr is really good at the point; so Wheeler will have to sit a while; probably more of a depth guy.

Too bad they have the equivalent of Jim Ferry on the bench. Then again, it's not too bad. I can't stand them. Their fans had the nerve to come on this board talking trash a few years back. The Pitters, and Hoopies don't even do that. I hope they keep losing, and fire Chambers at the end of the year, and all their players transfer.

Re: Jamari Wheeler

When Fl kids leave the state they are either great ones or ones the Fl schools don't want, wheeler falls into the latter. At maybe 6-0 and 150 playing in the Big 10 he better be tough for the pounding he is in for.

Re: Jamari Wheeler

My younger son had the misfortune of being at Penn State main for "those" years. When Penn State came to play us at PPG in '13 or '14 he made the trip. They had a total of two buses of students. I could not believe the abuse our Catholic University students heaped on them. Those 80 kids had nothing to do with Sandusky. I left my seat and almost started throwing punches at OUR Catholic University students. Nuff said.

I just don't see how he will ever play any minutes with Tony Carr playing in front of him.

Punches for words, Dad? Sticks and stones. Certainly if the situation were reversed our students would have been excoriated. Think of the abuse by schools like Xavier after Simon Ogunlesi.

Anyway, you're wrong about one thing: the game was played at Consol Arena.

Peace.

I was at that game. I remember students chanting "jerry, jerry, jerry" for jerry jones and the penn state fans taking it as a shot at the Sandusky situation. It was a miscommunication, and I say that as a big penn state football fan.

Yeah, I guess I am thin-skinned. Once, I almost ran onto the soccer field when a kid elbowed my boy in the head from behind. But, it's past and ED and 2012 we're movin' on up now to the east side. 2012 I know you have no idea wtf I'm talking about. That's ok. Just say we're not only turning a page, we're opening a brand new book. Peace ED.

Levon, you've been on this board a long time, but you won't be here much longer making smart ass comments towards the people who are in charge here. That was 100% uncalled for.

I stand by my statement, and really find your threats to be child-like and petty.  I've always tried to stick to basketball and impart some factual knowledge onto your board; but can easily live without your nonsense!

How about just "towards anyone here." Why does it just have to be those in charge?

It doesn't have to be just us, but poking the bear is really just silly. We run this board in a fairly loose manner. You don't need permission to join, and we don't ban people for the least little thing. ED, and CLK have been here since the first board went up, and have done a yeoman's job in getting this thing up to where it is. We let certain posters shamefully run Denny Conroy off, and it's not going to happen again. I hardly think disliking Jerry Sandusky is a reason why any of us should have nasty comments sent our way. As for me following Pitt football, I like the sport, and we don't have a team at the top level. I've always been able to separate football from the sports that we compete in. I like Pitt football. I like WVU too. Used to root for Penn St. as well, but the whole thing that went on up there, and the blind eye, and passing of the buck that went on disgusts me, as well as the response of a large section of their fan base. That's my right to feel that way, and I don't need to have snarky comments aimed my way because of it.

None of this applies to you Tejas, as you're one of the best posters we have.

Thank you for the compliment, but if you recall I went through a dark period about three years ago and people were calling for my head for negative posts (and I admit they had a point). We're like a big family that sometimes gets on each other's nerves but still shakes hands at  the end of the scrap.

And I am like you, I cheered for Pitt football as well, since we didn't have a Division I dog in that fight.  And as far as Penn State and the Sandusky thing goes?  I had a lot of well-deserved schadenfreude over that, because let's be honest, for decades the only football fans more obnoxious and holier than thou were the Golden Domers at Notre Dame. One of my best friends was one of those "Oh that guy that Pitt took would never play for Joe P" or "Penn State wouldn't put up with that!  Well guess what kiddies, the Sandusky thing, the blind eyes and the cover up (Joe PA Knew!!!!!!) totally outweighs the alumni slush funds, stripper parties, paid off cops and dropped charges of all the PItts, Alabamas and Nebraskas combined!

There is very little in this world that is worse than the abuse of children. If you had a good, safe upbringing, consider yourself blessed, as you are more vulnerable as a child, than you will likely be at any point in your life, even old age. I believe there is a special place in Hell for those who abuse children, and old people.

I don't get mad at ED when he pokes me for liking Pitt in football, because he's from Jersey. I don't know if he has a soft spot for Rutgers football (I actually do. Love to see the downtrodden rise up. Go Temple!), but I would understand it as they're local for him. I liked Pitt football before I came to the Bluff, and never saw a reason to change, even as I enjoyed every Pitt loss in hoops. I even remember enjoying them blowing a 10 point lead late against Nova, and you know how much I can't stand them. (anyone who has been a fan since 1970 can understand why I hate Nova, not to mention the betrayal that possibly cost us a chance to be a charter member of the BE.)

Re: Jamari Wheeler

Rutgers football? No way on this earth. I'm a college FB fan in general so my rooting interest changes depending on which dark horse team emerges. I like rooting for Iowa (unis) and I typically root for anyone against Pitt. That said, I hope James Conner has a long and successful pro career.

To Kurt, I thought the smiley thing and the joke about Consol would be enough to let you know I was just kidding around. No offense intended. I certainly lose my temper when I think someone is going against my children. Peace my friend.

As for the other issue, I have no further comment. So far I've only banned people trying to sell crap on our board. But I don't issue idle threats.

Re: Jamari Wheeler

When I traveled to State College in the mid 1980's many of my clients were business owners that lived and died Penn State Football. They had a Wednesday luncheon at Toft Trees Resort just out of town that was invitation only. No media allowed and anyone who asked "Joe" a slightly tough question was immediately branded from Pittsburgh ( Pitt, I guess) and then was looked at and roundly laughted at by most in the room.

That is when I started to dislike that whole program and the smug attitude by guys who were border line hicks, but felt they were the cool ones.

In those days dress casual was not yet invented, except at Quarter Back Club, which I think is what they called the luncheon.

Paterno went out of his way to insult Pittsburgh, maybe not knowing everyone in W Pa referred to the only as Pitt, at every lunch I ever was invited to. I soon made Wednesday a no-no for calls in State College.

So when Sandusky broke and Paterno sounded like a hi bred Sgt Shultz ( I know nothing ) or a political pro, I then believed he just didn't want to know.

I always liked Pitt football and am glad after missing out on Curtis, Shady and others we have young James C. on our Steeler team.
