Offline Offline Well I guess that puts an end to all of the roster speculation. We've got nine guys plus Taylor for next year. Could be an intriguing situation for a preferred walk-on. Offline You have to sign a financial aid agreement to accept the athletic scholarship. I think Coach D's quote about having nine scholarship players this year confirms that we are done recruiting. I think Coach D's quote about having none scholarship players this year confirms that we are done recruiting. Ah, missed that quote. I like this group for two years from now a lot, and next year will be a good situation for young guys to gain experience. As the current roster stands we will have two spots to fill for Dambrots second year? Offline The only thing that is still puzzling is the comment by Phg Sports Now about bringing in another big man for next year. It seems now that the only way that could happen is to bring in a non scholarship player, or for one of the existing 5 returning players to transfer. Offline We had Marshall Macheledt a couple years ago ... same type of thing. Don't know if Marshall is still enrolled (currentstudent?) and if he'd play again. But that's the type of under-the-radar but tall and somewhat able player that could flesh out the roster. We're actually not in bad shape up front. I'm a little more concerned about backcourt depth for next year. Offline Here's hoping that the team can stay healthy throughout the next year. An injury or two could really be "hurtful". The only way that there would still be a spot open is if one of the five remaining players is leaving. So far, we know Lewis II is staying. I would assume smith is staying since he already burned his red shirt year. We've heard Robinson is excited to play for dambrot. So that leaves us with either spencer or Eric. I could be wrong but I don't think he is at the school anymore. Then again I am not on campus a lot anymore. Offline The 7 footer could be a 2018 or 2019 recruit. Or an international kid who could end up at a prep school. Offline I am 100% certain it was Usman Haruna. I don't know what year he is or anything. Offline Could also be that one of the transfers was contingent on Haruna signing before he left. Offline Marshall transferred to a school closer to home...i think UNC Greensboro after his sophomore year (2015-2016) Offline We had Marshall Macheledt a couple years ago ... same type of thing. Per Verbal Commits, Macheledt "left team for personal reasons", I think after the 2015-16 season. He was quoted in The Duke as being pretty unimpressed with the level of foreign language instruction at Duquesne so he may have had his reasons for leaving the school altogether. His Twitter profile pic shows him wearing an NC State shirt at NC State's football stadium, though no indication he's tried to walk on there. Offline So next year, barring any transfers leaving the program, Dukes will have 2 open spots, correct? Offline So next year, barring any transfers leaving the program, Dukes will have 2 open spots, correct? Correct. Thus, the staff will probably be very selective in who they offer scholarships too. I think you are already seeing that, as many of the offers given out so far are to highly recruited kids. Last edited by Dukes2012 (5/01/2017 2:06 pm) Offline Officially. Robinson and James are seniors this year. Smith is a junior, but with the transfer year and summer school could graduate and be eligible to play right away at another school next year. Not looking to get rid of him, just saying it's a possibility. Offline Found this interesting. The transfer list stands at 543, according to Verbal Commits. Just 191 players have found a new home (35.2%). Offline Might not be enough openings for all these fellas. Offline Yeah, most of the 350+ Div. 1 schools could only accommodate 1, maybe 2 of these guys. There's probably 2 guys available for every 1 open spot. So the market is getting pretty saturated. Should be some interesting practices though with the quality of that transfer squad.
