Re: Let the speculation begin again

Got to wonder if he is a walk on candidate as he previously only held D2 interest and committed to Lincoln College (Pa),

Yep I think he's a preferred walk on candidate. I've seen the kid play in person about 4 or 5 times against my high school. Good high school player, but no shooting ability, and he's closer to 6'5" than 6'7".

Re: Let the speculation begin again

If you're that classic "good HS player/possible DII or DIII" guy, you might get lucky and get some $$ to play DII, but DIII is non-scholarship. So you're either paying part or all of your way anyway. Why not, if a school like Duquesne offers you a shot as a walk-on? You get a shot at some minor minutes, you get the benefit of practicing every day with DI recruits, and after a year you can go anywhere and get playing time. If you prove you belong, you might even get a scholarship.

Re: Let the speculation begin again

Do you get any kind of aid as a "preferred" walkon? Ive always wondered what the difference is between a regular walkon and a preferred one besides the fact that you have a better chance to see the court and a better chance to eventually earn a scholarship?

The preferred walk-on has actually been recruited by the coach who generally has offered the player a spot on the roster. The player isn’t offered any scholarship money as a freshman but there is the possibility in the future.A plain walk-on player is someone who has decided to try out for the team without the coaches support. It’s possible that the coach actually knows the athlete but never actually pursued him. What’s the difference? It really depends on the team and the coaches’ attitudes. Recruited walk-ons are often treated no differently than scholarship players. However, depending on the sport, regular walk-on players may be treated as simply living practice dummies. If you’re going to walk-on, make sure you establish a relationship with coach before starting college.

Re: Let the speculation begin again

Hi everyone, I am new to the board, been reading it every day since the Dambrot hire but haven't posted anything. But just saw that Jon Rothstein tweeted that Spencer Littleson is transferring, so I guess that answers the question about the remaining scholarship!

Re: Let the speculation begin again

Welcome! Just saw this too. You may be new, but you're quick.

Maybe currentstudent's 7-footer is about to sign. Oh, and good luck to Littleson.

Re: Let the speculation begin again

Well we finally have our answer! Shocked that he is transferring this late in the process, especially with like 2/3rds of the transfers still without homes. Good luck to Spencer, but not sure how high his stock is since he didn't play much this past year.

Craig Randall's dad just tweeted "stay tuned for what happens next."

This is likely what Mike was referring to. He didn't know why or how, but was 100% sure there would be another roster spot.

I don't get where he could go with his numbers from last year, has to be somewhere back home that recruited him out of high school, perhaps Detroit with Jackson and Ballantyne? Maybe Oakland University

Yeah I hope he finds somewhere to land. I think he has potential. It's just hard this late because many schools do not have scholarships left and there are still more than half of the other college basketball transfers who are still looking for schools. Really hoping that Haruna is our final piece. I got the feeling that Craig Randall Sr. knows something from his cryptic tweet.

Almost makes it seem like his replacement is already accounted for....

Also I saw Littlesons skills coach that Rashad Phillips responded to Rothsteins tweet asking how he got this information because he "know you didn't speak to him (Littleson)" wonder if he's questioning rothsteins news or genuinely curious as to the source?

Re: Let the speculation begin again

I was going to post earlier today about us just sitting back now and let the coach handle everything.  Welp!  Here we go again.  I hope its the 7' kid, he has skills.  Isnt Nick Washington part of the list of potentials as well?

Re: Let the speculation begin again

I messaged Randall Senior to tell him how excited we were about his son coming in and ask him about his tweet and if he knew the replacement, his response:

"Hello.. we are glad to be here but no I do not. I just trust that this staff like most good staffs have a solid plan and back fill roster spots."

Re: Let the speculation begin again

I wonder if Spencer is leaving on his own, or if he's been given a push? I generally don't like seeing players pushed out, but a new coach always gets a pass there.

Re: Let the speculation begin again

The lack of backcourt depth is concerning; we only have 2 guards who have played (Lewis and Smith) and they can't play 40 minutes.  I am guessing that EJames and the freshman Williams will both get time at the 2 guard and ML and TS will be the PG when one of those two gets in.  I am with those who say they want Haruna, can't teach that height and he is way more athletic than DLewis, but I'd settle for Washington.  Who knows, this is crazy, but a lot of fun!  Go Dukes!!

I am not so sure now, I hope so as I would also like to get Haruna.

Very true, especially on people who can play the point.  I am now hoping Josh Colon will be a walk on.

Re: Let the speculation begin again

Of course, KD may opt for a half court offense and zone defense.
Make it a 20 minute game coupled with low turnovers and smart
shot selection and competent zone defense not LHTM 2 -3.

KD plays man to man almost exclusively.
