A turn Around

A few months ago there wasa mention on this board that Duquesne was recruiting a kid that Florida Gulf Coast was also looking at, it kind of implied that Ferry was going after suspect players.

FGCU basket ball began in 2002 as a NAIA school, they had many D-1 players that transferred since they hardly played and wanted a second chance, they moved to NCAA D-2, after a few years but had a difficult time getting teams to play them since they won so much. 7 years ago they went D-1 in Atlantic Sun Conference, but were not eligible to play in end of season tournament and recruiting suffered. Founding Coach Dave Balzac was fired after never getting close to 500 in D-1 years after great success in first 5 years. A coach who was an assistant at Fl State , Andy Enfield was hired, he had most of returning starters quit but made the championship game with conference power Belmont and hung in till end. Team ended a few games below 500.
This year they were 24-10' beat Mercer at Mercer for NCAA bid and college and town are really happy.

FGCU is located in Ft Myers, Fl, have 13,000 students.

Hope Duquesne can do as well soon.
pEnfield did this with just a few new recruits and at $157'000 he will be scooped up by higher level conference unless they pay him around $400,000 plus, I think.
He created a winning attitude at FGCU, they play Georgetown Thursday as 15 ceded.

Re: A turn Around

So what?  Every other school in this country (except us and Rice) has at some point put it all together and made the Dance. These stories just infuriate me, rather than inspire.

I can't wait for Ferry to get us back to the NIT level that Ron did and then he gets fired for the next great rebuild.

Ferry will never get that far.

Re: A turn Around

Honestly Ritters, why do you even follow the team or this forum if you have no hope?

I guess some people with no hope just like to beat themselves up by reading the board. I read and post  because I love basketball and DU.

yes, I forgot Northwestern but that's about it. When we played Rice down here five years ago the media notes had the longest droughts and it was DU, Rice, Northwestern and one of those  "North Central Southwest Tennessee State" schools, (who may have made it by now)  and four Ivy League teams.  That's it and that is pathetic.

Re: A turn Around

And look what they did tonight!  An NAIA school eleven years ago and they pull the 2-15 upset.

Hey, we get to watch Duquesne win 13 next year and maybe make the NIT in three years.

Better give Greg Amodio a contract extension!  Remember Dukes fans these things take time.  Rome wasn't built in a day.

Hilarious!

You called it Phil!
Down on the WVU board, they're asking why Thuggins didn't recruit Chase Fieler, the kid who had the monster dunk. He's from Clarksburg. Hell, I wonder if RE knew about him.

two of the original transfers to FGCU were from Clarksburgh and they were top payers there in the early 2000's I think one went back home and he might of been the reason Fieler went there, the other one Coaches in nearby Naples, Fl in high school.
