Oh boy. That's not good. I was wondering why everyone was being so tight lipped about his removal from the roster, but now it makes sense. They had to wait for the legal process to play out. Last edited by Dukes2012 (10/30/2017 9:23 am) This wont end well for anybody The only positive is that he was a walk on and never a part of the Official Roster filed in October. IF ( IF being the operative word ) this allegation is true and is proven out via the judicial system , this incident casts a pall on the season for me. IF ( IF being the operative word ) this allegation is true and is proven out via the judicial system , this incident casts a pall on the season for me. I don't think so. This kid was not a scholarship player. His being on the roster had everything to do with who his dad was. Just a sad situation. That said, this kid is innocent until proven guilty. As Dukes2012 said - innocent until proven guilty. That said, if worst case comes of this, you cannot condemn a whole program, athletic teams, or institution for actions of one. I wish this sort of thing would never happen but it does. No need to throw all the good accomplished aside. Many truly good students and student athletes at the Bluff

I wish this sort of thing would never happen but it does. No need to throw all the good accomplished aside. Many truly good students and student athletes at the Bluff The only way you could condemn the entire program and school is if there was a coverup-type situation like what happened at Baylor. I does not appear that anything of that nature happened here, based on how quickly he was removed from the roster. Agree 100 percent, Dukes 2012!! We all hate to hear of this kind of stuff but we hear of it more and more with alarming frequency. Hoping for the best possible outcome for all concerned! Last thing this program needs though it should not reflect on the program at all. I don't believe in curses. Except for the ones I'm muttering under my breath right now. Hoping for the best for all concerned. Don't believe in curses either ElDuque but a case could be made!! I do believe in KD and staff however and that's what is going to get this thing done!! IF ( IF being the operative word ) this allegation is true and is proven out via the judicial system , this incident casts a pall on the season for me. You may feel this way, but I don't understand your basis for the second statement. One individuals alleged actions have no bearing on this team, program, or individual players, coaches, or members of the department. He was a non scholarship player who figured to factor in little this season and even less going forward. Nick Washington is the risk you run when you have a Div. 1 men's basketball program. Once there was a charge involving a Wil-B girl that just about did the program in....... Playing time has nothing to do with the story. Last edited by duqkurt (10/30/2017 4:04 pm) I agree with Ghost. Playing time has nothing to do with the story. I apologize ghost I didn't mean to come off as meaning playing time was a factor when considering the magnitude of the situation, that is absolutely not what I meant. Last edited by Duques102 (10/30/2017 4:34 pm) Once there was a charge involving a Wil-B girl that just about did the program in....... Boy do I remember that! Strange thing was, she was identified and interviewed on the nightly news! It has been echoed throughout the board but I would to also say that the handling thus far is the right thing to do. Immediately off the team, do not make an announcement or statement, let it be handled by the proper authorities. I commend the leadership. Hey in this day and age, with all the hysteria and so many guys getting railroaded and falsely accused by women, not to mention having their 4th and 5th amendment rights denied by college kangaroo courts, I believe more than ever in "innocent until proven guilty." Yeah Title IX investigations have been an absolute disaster. College administrators and deans have been putting on quasi trials that they are not remotely qualified to do, and due process rights have been thrown out the window. Luckily, the tide is starting to turn a bit. The governor of California just bucked his own party and vetoed a bill that would have further squashed due process rights of the accused. I am glad that Duquesne allowed the outside authorities to handle this situation. Nick will get his day in court represented by an attorney. Last edited by Dukes2012 (10/30/2017 11:11 pm) Only 2 people know what happened that night in that room. The police/detectives and lawyers will figure it all out, and by then another 100 athletes will be accused of some wrong doing, from murder to kneeling. I do think no matter the outcome, DU, not just the bball team but the school takes a hit in their PR status. I don't believe there will be a hit to DU's "PR status". There are rape charges against athletes every year at so many colleges and universities. Unfortunately, this is a cultural trend, based an changing mores and values, that started a long time ago. It will be referenced in the media several times I am suspecting.
Does this action potentially wipe away some of the good vibe generated by the program to this point ? I am guessing it might.
Very depressing !!

While I do not know the facts of this case, these types of incidents are often "he said, she said" cases, and typically hard to prove in court without witnesses, admissions, or evidence of physical force. We should let this play out before casting judgment on mr. Washington.

While this is horrible if true (IF), this has no bearing on the program in my opinion. This was not a situation that could have been prevented or was enabled by the basketball program.
Distance yourself from the bad egg and move on. Let's also make sure that the alleged victim is a focus and concern as much as the basketball program if this is true.

I just hope that the arrest and evidence were handled professionally. I want both the
female and Washington to receive the justice they deserve.
No cover-up, Washington was not on scholarship and was quickly dismissed from the team. It could be
worse,
Based on our world and hourly news cycle, something else will happen to mitigate the impact.

I also, agree with your comment "distance yourself from the bad egg and move on "
As for my second comment , I think we can all agree that up to this point virtually everything Coach D and his staff , Mr. Harper and the school have done to generate a buzz for the upcoming season has been spot on. IF ( a big If as I mentioned ) this allegation is true, does that in any way enter your thought process in down times away from the actual games ???
If not , that is O.K. - for me I would think about it ( i.e. wonder what is up with the potential rape case ). After a while these thoughts would fade , but at least at the beginning I would have them. Maybe, this says something about me.
As for whether he was a walk on and the amount of playing time he would have received I am not sure that factors into the equation. He was a member of the team , hence his actions are attached to the team - at least for the short term.
Re: Nick Washington Charged With Rape
But to answer Ghost’s question it does not cast a pall on the season for me. It is not something you want to read in the news. He was dismissed from the program the next day.
Harper and Dambrot can only control what they do. Not what their players do. They acted appropriately, and that’s all you can hope for when these situations arise.

Simply from the perspective of answering the question will this cast a negative light on the season, I was more pointing to the fact that he has been here for a few months and never wore the uniform or played in a game(or trying to point out, poorly). I think we can all agree that if this was a starter or a more recognizable face than it would add to the negative light being cast on the season and program, that's all.
Ultimately I see it as the action of one individual, and think that Duquesne has handled the situation appropriately.
