Offline So basically the best thing for the Dukes is for us to cheer for every single team we played, win or lose, to get better and win more games correct? Offline So basically the best thing for the Dukes is for us to cheer for every single team we played, win or lose, to get better and win more games correct? I guess so, if we want to worry about this. Better to just watch the transition of the program, and see what a great coach can get out of a current group of players that have a previously unacknowledged good amount of talent. Offline that is how SOS works. Offline So basically the best thing for the Dukes is for us to cheer for every single team we played, win or lose, to get better and win more games correct? If the season goes to the point where we have to care about our RPI really, it will have been a great year regardless. Also - the bonus of having the "bad" RPI is to see fans of other teams get mad, red, and nude online because they lost to a Duquense team with an RPI of 420 or whatever. Really? We are going to get them so mad they literally start rending their garments Biblical style? Hey Cool! Offline "Nude on line?" Really? We are going to get them so mad they literally start rending their garments Biblical style? Hey Cool! It is the highest level of being mad online. And I am just saying, when the Dukes beat Bonas at the AJP, the game thread on the A10 boards should be considered NSFW Offline I'll add to being mad at losing to a team with Duquesne's rankings in that the GW board was disgusted at the offensive output against a team that "once again, plays NO defense" by citing our then sub 200 rank in defensive efficiency. Offline All I know is what I saw Wednesday, GW who normally not only beats us, but pounds us, were shut down in the last 10 minutes and were down by 19 near the end and lost by 17. Before fans start getting nude, I think there ought to be some voting involved. Offline Might be a good time to start betting on the Dukes -- before Las Vegas catches on.... Yeah I read that comment on the GW board and thought, where are they getting that ranking, constantly holding teams to under 70 Offline I'll add to being mad at losing to a team with Duquesne's rankings in that the GW board was disgusted at the offensive output against a team that "once again, plays NO defense" by citing our then sub 200 rank in defensive efficiency. Offline Tejas, there are two factors that determine the number of points scored by the opponent:
Question about strength of schedule?
I see in the one RPI rating, we have gone from 343 to 324.

Re: Question about strength of schedule?
As of today, our RPI was up to 221, a jump from 239. I'm not sure if that 18 spot jump is from beating GW or beating both GW and Dayton...i don't know how often it updates that one column.
regardless, the Dukes aren't really in a position for RPI to matter to us. Only the NCAA and NITs really take a look at RPI and the only way the Dukes get in those probably is through automatically qualifying.

I honestly don't know how the preseason rankings are calculated but our rankings reflected the outputs of the Ferry era and the gains in the rankings have been slow due to the poor offensive teams they've played but the Dukes are 39th in the country in raw efficiency at 95.0 but the adjusted is 104.4, only 197th in ranking. Offensive also reflects that as well with 109.7 (70th) raw compared to 102.9 (182) adjusted.
Long story short, no one seems to have a clue how the Dukes ever win a game
Re: Question about strength of schedule?
All because those Duquesne players gave so much effort and were not going to lose.
RPI or any other rating system hasn't caught up to the KD Miracle that arrived on the Bluff.

Re: Question about strength of schedule?
• Your Defensive Efficiency - how many points you give up per possession
• Your Tempo - the number of possessions per game
Per KenPom:
Right now for the season, the Dukes are slightly below average in their Defensive Efficiency (1.044 per possession; 195th in the country), but have been really good in controlling the tempo (66.6 per game; 48th slowest in the country).
The GW game was played with about 60 possessions for each team. The Dukes played great defense to slow GW down, and they are methodical on offense - many times not running a play until there are 12-15 seconds left on the shot clock.
The conference numbers for the first two games show a different story: the Dukes are #3 in Defensive Efficiency (0.914 per possession), and have been really good in controlling the tempo (62.4 per game; slowest in the conference).
Note that the KenPom offensive/defensive efficiency numbers are "adjusted" for the quality of opposing defenses, the site of each game, and when each game was played (recent games get more weight).
